I’m getting no journaling suggestions whatsoever based on recent moments/photos/music/podcasts - just the textual prompts.
Does anyone else have the same issues?

EDIT: Solved by deleting and reinstalling the app.

Kinda how I feel about Freeform. I thought it was going to be interesting to test out and I did. But I soon forgot about it until someone recently mentioned it in relation to Journal. Then I was like, oh yeah, forgot about it.
Me too for Freeform.

I have been wondering why apple did not make Journal as an extension to Note app than a separate app.

Most of the features are similar yet a few auto filling in of sensitive info like location by on device intelligence !

Indeed. With apps like Freeform and Journal, it makes me very curious about what's Apple's thinking behind this. It seems that the apps are not really the end goal. Are they pushing towards helping developers imagine how they could better use the iOS system?

I recall the time when Pages and Numbers (or it might have been earlier with iWork) came out which I read as a response to Microsoft not really furthering development of Word and Excel for Macs in a way that keeps feature parity with the Windows version. I read it as Apple making sure there are strong office programs on Mac when Microsoft seems to be abandoning the platform.

But what about Freeform and Journal? No clue what the logic for the thinking is....

video is terrible - this guy is all over the place and after about 7 minutes, I'm not even sure what this thing is. Day One has no worries (atm).

Been
I've been using Day One since it was the free app of the week, way back in early 2016. If there were ever an import option from Day One to Apple Journal, I'd give this a try. I somehow doubt the Day One developers will put any effort into that though. Day One is great, but the subscription based model is super old.
Been using Day One for a long time now as well and was just thinking the same re export/import feature. Don’t think this may come from the Day One devs but could see this implemented from Apple at some point. Maybe.

This is one of those apps, that for some reason, I would like to try to use it, but know I will forget about it two days from now. I am very curious to see how others use and like it, though.
Same here. I thought I was going to use the FreeForm app a lot, but in reality I never use it.

Can this application be removed? I don’t want to show up as being in proximity to people journaling with this app by mistake.

Yep, the music integration is SUPERIOR to Day One. With Day One, it's just a metadata attachment; in Journal, it's a minimal player with a text where you could actually reflect on the songs. Music — especially when first discovered — can serve as its own moment in my life, with its own thoughts, so this is pretty nifty. And I often discover super meaningful songs, then forget them in a playlist. Journal immediately pulled out a group of songs I would never consciously remember listening to several days ago.

How did you get it to attach music history? I’m seeing options to include photos, locations, audio files, and journaling suggestions, but I can’t find a music option.

Would like time stamp and weather condition data on every journal entries. (2:47 PM. Cloudy. 17°)

Totally agree! I hope they give us the option to add data from more stock apps, like health data, calendar entries, weather and time stamp data like you said, top news stories from the day, people I talked to on my phone, etc.

EDIT: Solved by deleting and reinstalling the app.

I was going to try that but wanted to make sure the app is in the App Store to redownload first, but I can’t find it there. How did you reinstall the app? Is it showing up in the App Store for you?

To be honest I have looked at this and at this time I will say forget it as it to me is something easily forgettable
I deleted sketch first day too. Forgot about it till seeing it mentioned here. Another pointless push out of some code they bought in some deal and rolled out to say, we did!

I use Goodnotes with an empty bullet journal one can get from Etsy or any number of websites. Also you can make your own journal for Goodnotes.

I tried the new Journal app. It’s not as satisfying as using an Apple Pencil and writing on an iPad Pro. Also, photos seem to be at the top of the entry instead of wherever one wants to put them. Maybe that’s something I’m doing wrong? I’d like to be able to use stickers in the journal app also.

Ok, it’s the first iteration of the app. Let’s hope for it to get better. Maybe third parties can get involved in making the app better.

Without a macos version it's useless

This right here. I use the Day One app on my 13 PM and use the web version when I'm on my desktop. If Apple wants its apps to dethrone longstanding default choices for folks, it *has* to think cross-platform.

Apple did not often inspire 3rd parties to develop, rather they acquired the innovative 3rd party app and dissolve it into IOS, e.g. shortcut, weather.

google web suite is way better than iwork in terms of functionalities and UI design.

it looks to me that a *separate* Journal app is another CLEAR response to Apple's target fan base, the liberals. mindfulness is one of the issues they are concerned about. apple did tweak IOS to respond to them by adding emoji, wallpaper, siri voice, etc.

btw, checked again freeform. it is not too bad though.

Play some music — a handful of songs — and wait to see if it shows up.

I didn't do anything intentional. It just 'popped up,' first showing a collection of songs played at the same time from a few days before, then showing something I played on the same day a little before going into the app.
