Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus are owned by the same Chinese company. They just pretend to compete against each other.

I don't think OnePlus is even pretending competing. It's essentially Oppo's brand for their flagship in North America. Probably easier to fly under the radar this considering all the pushback Huawei and ZTE is getting from the US gov.

You will notice that this is what is called a "design choice." I can take my iphone out, click the camera app and I'm ready to shoot in less than a second. How long does this take? What would it cost to replace that camera if something hits it when its up like a periscope?

Cheaper than the XS? It's a lot cheaper than the XR, proving just what overpriced trash that phone is.

I remember when we felt the same way about Japanese radios. Pretty soon, all of electronics was left offshore.

Is it me or is it all just a bit cheesey and OTT now? Notched this, bezel less that, pop up cameras on cone with a flake in it. Frickin' yawn fest central...

flagship smartphone ?
not waterproof and no wireless charging ?
No, thx.

It is water resistant. One+ already stated it. They just didn’t want to pay to have it certified to pass the cost savings to the consumer. They have a snippet commercial with the phone being dropped
in a bucket of water and reviewers testing it in water on YouTube. One of them even had the pop up camera come up and back down under water with no ill effects.

I’d rather have warp charging than wireless charging.

Nice phone.

I like the pop-up camera too. It makes more sense to me than a notch, hole-punch, or any other screen-intrusive design.

But then again, I'm not walking around taking selfies and video-chatting every five seconds, so the risk of the selfie cam getting busted is virtually non-existent in my typical use-case scenarios.

And while I know that this is an Apple forum, I find Android (on decent devices like this one) preferable to iOS, hands down, at least today.

“It's a feature that's unique to the OnePlus device”? No way, Xiaomi patented this idea on 2015, last year Vivo already released multiple models of phones featuring pop-up camera!
Don’t forget Oppo and Honor too! And Samsung now too!:D

First the Xs Max is not "almost a year old".
Second according to recent leaks the next iphone will have an Xs Max like screen anyway.

So his advice that Apple should pay attention does make a lot of sense.

Oh sorry, it’s only 10 months old! My bad...

Apple is really being held back by what seems to me like a determination to avoid the embarrassment of admitting they made some wrong choices. For them to backtrack on things like Face ID, the goofy keyboard and waste of space touch bar on the mac... it would say to the public that they are now followers whereas for over 10 years, they have had other manufacturers thoughtlessly copying them... like even the silly ideas like the notch.

Wacky? Seriously?
How do you call a guy who comes up and talks for 2 hours about the most "AMAZING" iPhone yet
with ZERO new features? Is he "wacky" or simply he's a liar?
iPhone today is like a cassette player kept for ever in many new cars just for a sake of it.
In the same time everybody was looking for an USB port to connect their iPods to...
It’s amazing that world leading performance, better cameras etc are “zero new features” but when Android OEMs introduce similar “new features” (except performance, of course) they are suddenly amazing innovations.

Apple is indeed graded on a different curve than others.

And no, a mechanical pop up camera which will inevitably fail for many at some point is not an amazing new feature. Neither is a finger print scanner in the back, or a poorly working one in the display.

But go ahead and buy one - I will stick with my antique cassette player.

I asked a serious question and got a “pot calling the kettle..” as a response? How is it the phone is way ahead of the iPhone?
The screen
The RAM
The processor
The attempt at something new (pop up cam)
The cameras
USB-c
Software freedom
90hz

Sure I'm leaving a few out. Oneplus makes each new phone marginally better than the previous. Apple just says "twice as fast"

if there is one thing i'd like about this phone, would bes to flip the camera up and down all day.

Looks deaky.

Okay, just wondering what your list was. Mine would look like:
- iOS
- the processor(Apple makes the best)
- video hdr
- Face ID
- iMessages
- the screen
- support and longevity
- wireless charging, ip68
Ymmv as always.

The phone looks great. If wireless charging was not so integrated into my daily life, this would be my top choice right now.

EDIT: One can certainly quibble about various feature choices among the flagship phones, but what is remarkable here is that this phone is, at 256 Mb, more than $500 less expensive than the iPhone Xs Max.

If you’re fine with that, you should consider one of these Goophones. Just as good as an iPhone because it seems like one, right?

Are they actual 3D or just a 2D equivalent

By looking at it? "Using" the phone wouldn't make me any more or less qualified to state I don't want a motorized selfie camera.
[doublepost=1557927255][/doublepost]
That doesn't work as well.

Yeah, in a lab with no dirt or other variables.

Samsung also tested the fold in a lab and it failed the first day in the wild.
Doesn't work according to who ?

The screen - only 425 Nits, iPhone 725 nits
The RAM - cheap RAM manufacturing
The processor - the a12 is faster
The attempt at something new (pop up cam) - dirty after a while
The cameras - the iPhone cameras are better
USB-c
Software freedom - Google tracking, Ads on lock screen, malware, adware, bloatware, viruses
90hz - eye pain, headache

The screen - so brighter is better? Do you spend the majority of your time out in the sun? The OP7P has QHD and no notch or punch hole. I can see all content on the display when out in the sun. Speaking of being out in the sun, Face ID is useless when out in bright sunlight.

The RAM - cite your sources of cheap manufacturing.

The processor - faster at what? The OP7P beat the XS Max on all overall speedtests except maybe video rendering.

The pop up cam gets dirty? The iPhone front facing camera doesn't get dirty from fingerprints/smudges when swiping from the top of the screen or tapping the top of the display to go to top of page or dust from your pocket? The pop up camera avoids fingerprints or smudges because your finger doesn't get near it.

Camera - install the GCam apk and it blows the doors off the iPhone XS Max photos.

software freedom - lock screen ads? I don't see any ads. Malware, viruses, etc? Stick to the Play Store and stay away from sideloading from shady 3rd parties. Besides, the Apps Store has had it's run ins with shady apps as well. Unlocked OP7P doesn't have bloatware. Oh and Android owners can uninstall bloatware and stock apps instead of having to hide them in a folder.

90Hz refresh rate is actually easier on the eyes than 60Hz.

I like my iPhone X but I also give credit to non Apple devices as well.
