Different series. Mate and P-series are different product lines. Each gets renewed every year, but Mate in the autumn and P in spring. That way they please more customers which prefer different designs and technical details and as a bonus comes out with new stuff twice a year. They've chosen (so far) to have 3D face unlock only on Mate.

Huawei is far more nimble than Apple nowadays and aren't bound by "courage". That way they can both have and not have 3,5mm headphone jacks in different models as another example.

You mean like Apple tested their butterfly keyboards before launch?
The butterfly keyboards are a tired, echo chamber internet issue. Apple sold 18M Macs in 2018 without any major issue.

I'm willing to concede I'm speculating on the durability of this pop up camera, but I don't like it.

This is excellent value for a true flagship specs if it matches the performance like it's predecessor. My wife has OnePlus 6 and it's camera is really awesome....it has dual SIM, twin apps(two Social Media apps with different identities), excellent display (1080 though)....

This one being 6.7 inches, QHD AMOLED screen, stereo speakers, splash resistant (I don't care certification mafia), quick fast charger this is clear winner IMO...they are the first one to upgrade OS since they keep the OS very close to the base version...there are few software issues wrt LTE connectivity which they ironed out in the following releases for my wife's OP6... This is really great one....with 5G it can beat almost all flagships

That's a lot of phone for $669. Even more impressive is that for a little more ($749) you get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Exactly, You just can't beat that in today's flagship world

Love the no notch screen. I still wish Apple would have just put a small bezel across the top.
The pop up camera is an interesting idea. Screen looks beautiful. I'm always happy to see competition. Keep pushing Apple higher. :)
Apple didn't want their new flagships looking like OLD ANDROID phones. We both know what you related is functional, practical and probably best. Yet when you have an Android and an iPhone sitting on a table...how would you know the difference? IMO, its the only reason Apple went with the notch they still have in the first place. (differentiate)

With no facial recognition and the front facing camera hidden away until activated this looks awesome.

But, the disadvantages:
- Having to root and install a custom ROM to make the OS half-decent.
- No good Android smartwatch available.

Lies.

I have one OnePlus 6, and its a fantastic device. It's the first Android Phone I haven't felt the need to unlock the Fastboot or Root to actually do what I want to. Oxygen OS gets regular updates and is pretty much stock rom with a few very useful bells and whistles, no bloatware, it's fast, battery lasts a ton, the screen is fantastic and the camera is very good for the price.

Grrrrrr......iMessage lock in....it's the only thing stopping me from picking up a second, Android device. Does anyone use an iOS and Android device with the same phone line? Is it relatively easy to swap out? My understanding is iMessage really screws up the ability to seamlessly switch SIMs.

I've switched back and forth and haven't had any problems, you just have to turn iMessage off before you swap the SIM card. That said, I have hear of people getting their texts stuck in iMessage purgatory, but I haven't had any problems myself.

Say what you will, but I think the pop-up camera is a good idea because the screen looks so clear without any obstructions. How will it hold up over time, who knows, but there's no reason to believe it won't hold up well.

I can see another company putting a small screen on the back of the phone so that you don't have to have a camera at the front of the phone. Who knows what they'll come up with next.

This seems like a decent enough phone for the price, though I've never used a OnePlus before so I have no experience with them.

I actually like to notch on my iPhone X.
no you don't. You just got used to it. No one in the right mind would say - give me notch instead of perfect clean screen.
You just understand the compromise so you are ok with it but there is no way you actually like it. :)
And if you really do then, well.....;-)
[doublepost=1557935418][/doublepost]This device looks great. I don't use front camera much so this is perfect. The only issue is that its android phone.
However, Apple should take a closer look and maybe re-evaluate their ****** notch strategy.
Give us touchID underscreen and solve the camera and you have a winner.

I almost never use the front-facing camera so I much prefer this solution to a notch. In fact, this is the first and only Android smartphone I've seen reviewed that still looks attractive when placed next to an iPhone Xs Max, IMHO. And OnePlus actually tried to make the price a decent value for what you're getting, unlike what we've seen from Apple and others lately.

Unfortunately Face ID is a different issue, and likely prevents Apple from eliminating the notch until it can be embedded under the screen.

By looking at it? "Using" the phone wouldn't make me any more or less qualified to state I don't want a motorized selfie camera.
[doublepost=1557927255][/doublepost]
That doesn't work as well.
[doublepost=1557927304][/doublepost]
Yeah, in a lab with no dirt or other variables.

Samsung also tested the fold in a lab and it failed the first day in the wild.
Probably more reliable than a MacBook pro keyboard on it's third revision don't you think?

I have electric motors that are grear driven, probably 50 years old that work just fine.

It's just a selfie camera that would almost never be used by adults.

I'd prefer it over a notch, hole punch, or anything else. I'd even be happy with no selfie camera.

If it had expandable storage and headphone jack I'd get it.

Looking like I'll get a s10+ and the free s10e offer.

If it's bezel free why is their a black bezel around the entire thing? Certainly a small bezel though compared to competitors. Though definetly wouldn't want moving parts on a phone.

Huh? Other than the bottom it looks thinner then any iphone and honestly if your going to have a bit of a thicker bezel the bottom makes the most sense since your hand or fingers are usually down there in the way with most use.

No, I don't think the keyboard is as big of an issue as the echo chamber clan here. It doesn't matter what you'd be happy with or not. People want selfie cameras.

You do have to mount the screen.
Not a fan of a pop up camera. More crap to break.

Are we assuming the pop-up camera uses a conventional servo motor? There's evidence in Marques Brownlee's review that a magnetic sled might be the driver. That would explain the camera's fast retraction ability, including its small size and durability claims.

Moving parts? No thanks. Oh, and it runs Android? Pass.
Popup cameras and foldable screens are great features, but also risks to the integrity of the phone. In the long run, I'd bet on foldable screens becoming common (once the wrinkles are ironed out), but pop up cameras will always be a gimmick.

I would consider buying this but it doesn’t have 5G to future proof itself. Just $30 more you get double the storage at 256GB and 8GB which is really nice. Would be nice if Apple had no notch since I don’t even use the selfie camera. Pop up cameras and foldable should be in laptops first not phones, may people would probably but laptops with pop up cameras considering I see almost everyone just putting tape over their current ones. I wonder how long Apple will take to get a 90hz/120hz display on the iPhones.

Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc had all kinds of Moving parts on their phones, and they were very robust. In fact, even the HTC G1 had a very nice, solid keyboard that swung out.

Nice to see these kind of wacky Chinese phones.

It will be interesting to see how the pop up camera holds up in daily use, being in pockets and so on.

It’s also different thing to sell couple of million of these, than sell 50+ million per year. The scale of fallout if these start breaking is a bit different if you sell 50 million vs 2 million..

Also, iPhone X was released in 2017, almost two years ago. The in display fingerprint scanner technology wasn’t available then and I honestly don’t even understand why some people want it so bad.

FaceID is great!

I think that the OP7Pro has 4 things that Apple could borrow for a future iPhone...

1.) More RAM. Although Apple has better RAM management, simply having more RAM will make even the most bloated apps fly.

2.) Faster charging. 30W Charging, in addition to a 3,650mAh battery, would make the iPhone 11 unbeatable.

3.) 48MP camera(binned to 12MP). By binning the 48MP camera with 0.8um pixels down to 12MP, you can get 1.6um effective pixels. This allows faster HDR, excellent low-light shots, and you can select between low-light, and high-detail modes. Also, the 3x optical zoom is a big plus, it would be nice to have true optical zoom(Huawei SuperZoom 5x would be better though).

4.) Underscreen fingerprint reader. If Apple had the underscreen fingerprint sensor, in addition to face unlock, that would also make the iPhone unbeatable. Even if you don't use the fingerprint reader, if there isn't a disadvantage to simply having it available, why not put it in?

If Apple put those features in a future iPhone, they could wipe out Samsung and Huawei in one go.

apple not wiping out anyone soon...those features will be available at the end of 2025....

I kind of moved past being annoyed by the motorized camera.....apparently it has been tested like crazy. One cool feature though was the drop detection. You will have to check out jerryrigeverything video on it. My problem at this point is the curved screen....can't stand that on Samsungs and now one plus has it....UGH!!

Seriously? Those are the two main things you took away from this? A moving part and the ever so tired and close-minded “It runs Android lol so no thanks” response?

What about it having an actual full screen with no hideous notch with a 90Hz refresh rate, 6-12 gigs of RAM, and being touted as the fastest Android phone from various reviewers... all at a low $650 price point?
Perfect! Totally agree. Thanks.
