Got a new MP at the studio where I work, and my only complaint is that I can't take it home with me every night (without hernia related issues). It's without a doubt the most powerful machine I've ever had the pleasure of using. I actually look forward to working now.

I got my Mac Pro around 8 days ago, and it has been pretty awesome. I've been on vacation for that time, so I have been using it for probably at least 12 hours a day (Gotta love vacation). It has been flawless. I have had no crashes or issues. I have added an IDE hard drive and an external USB HD. The stock Seagate hard drive is a bit slow, but no slower than any of my other hard drives laying around, so it will hold me over until I get a Spinpoint F1. If I could do it over, I would have gotten the 320 and just bought another HD.

I have:
2x 2.8ghz
2GB Ram
500GB HD
8800GT
Wifi

I have downloaded well over 100 gigs of stuff, and played my fair share of Crysis, COD 4, and now Bioshock (which is a pretty crappy game, imho) and the Mac Pro runs them all beautifully. I can't even begin to slow it down with processor intensive tasks. This is, without a doubt, the fastest computer I have ever used.

In all honesty, I was a little shocked I couldn't push it further. Even when I throw everything I have at it, I can barely get the CPU usage above 60%.

I order today the same configuration!!!! I expect have no problems and be a happy owner :)

Loving it!

Had some Kernel panics in the first week or so. Everything is smooth as silk now. Running Logic Pro rewired with Reason everyday and it is pure joy.

My Mac Pro has 10GB Ram (OWC) and 3 Spinpoint 750GB drives (ultra quiet).

:D:D:D

Oh man, I have been DYING to pick up one of those Spinpoints! Man, of I weren't a poor college student, I could easily dump another couple grand into this computer. I swear, this is my first Mac, and it is like a gateway drug.

Another voice added to this happy choir. :)

Mac Pro may not sell in the same volume as its cheaper siblings, but wow is it one hell of a machine.

I just tried Windows Vista Ultimate x64 in one VM with 2 CPUs, OpenSuSE 11 Alpha in another VM with 2 CPUs, and still had 4 CPUs left over for Mac OS. All three operating systems ran beautifully. Why? Because I can. ;)

when i first moved to mac (i.e. became enlightened) a few years back i had a Quad G5, then i became portable so sold it and brought a Macbook Pro and to be honest in most cases i couldn't see too much of a difference in performance.. now i just got a Mac Pro and couldn't be happier, maybe my work has become more demanding but i am just soooooo happy with the stable and reliable performance increase all over the board... maybe the 16GB Ram helps, but it still needs a running partner as awesome as the Mac Pro to be of any use.

I did have the restart from sleep issue, but i reset the SMC and that sorted the problem, the only issue i've had recently is my 8800GT upgrade being faulty, but thats just bad luck.. this is one helluva machine, powerful, beautiful and as quiet as my macbook pro which is really saying something when you consider the amount of components involved. I really find it hard to fault, i even think the external case design while old is by far the best looking and practical case this kind of money can buy, its amazing how no one else has even come close to topping it.

If i could have intimate relations with my Mac Pro... i would, and i probably have done in my sleep, i trust my sub conscious to have good taste.

2.8X8/8800/10GB, 1 TB Samsung F1 HD (2 more coming soon) & 350 GB "Stock" HD as scratch and unbacked-up storage. 1TB Time Capsule for Time Machine backups.

This system is near silent and rock solid, and is constantly getting hammered by misc apps, Fusion virtual environments, etc. etc. etc. No problems, other than learning the ins and outs of OSX (I came from XP SP2). I'm a very happy new :apple: customer.

My stock MP Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core) / 2600XT / 2GB ram and its 23" ACD arrived yesterday ( two day shipping from Amazon ).

The as-shipped HD is a 320GB Western Digital WD3200AAJS aka WD Caviar® SE drive.

The superdrive is a Sony NEC OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A Firmware revision 1.NC Cache: 2048 KB

The 23" ACD has no dead pixels and no pink tint.

I have one issue with the test of the screen saver causing the screen corruption but that was before I ran the software update, after that I been running the screen savers without any issues.

All in all very happy!

Well now that I received my replacement MP after the first one was DOA, I'm very happy. Running RAID 0+1 with 4 1TB drives and Apple's RAID card and this sucker screams! 16GB of RAM is definitely a helpful boost and much recommended. I just upgraded to CS3 last night and am chomping at the bit to get going. I haven't worked on a faster machine in my 22 years of mac experience. This machine Rocks!

Love it

I ordered my MP as soon as they were announced in January (I was a lifelong PC user) followed soon after by the MBA. The MBA was first to arrive so i got some "seat time" learning the new OS (love it). When the MP arrived I immediately installed an extra 80GB HD and put XP on it with Boot Camp and then installed Parallels. I must admit I have used it mainly for gaming under Boot Camp and it's a screamer. I had already purchased a DROBO (great machine) with two 250GB HDs which had been hooked to my PC for essential file transfers. I run Time Machine for back ups to the DROBO.
Have had no problems with any kernel panics (that's a new phrase for someone used to the BSOD) and everything has run smoothly. I installed Office for Mac and I use the Apple email program as opposed to the one in Office and I must admit it's a very slick program compared with Outlook.

Very happy with my machine

2.8 8 core
2gb RAM ( will buy when price comes down )
8800GT
320GB and 3rd party 160gb + 320gb
Airport + Bluetooth
Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Not a single crash, no problem with sleeping, no restart issue, no wireless issue..... not a problems to report!

Just need a nice new screen now!

I've had mine for a while now and it's been fantastic. Turned it off for maybe the first or second time yesterday as there's a big storm blowing into Texas and I'm not taking any chances.

What's the main difference of using RAID 01 on the raid card, vs just using Disk Utility? I imagine it's speed - but just wondered...

It rocks!
Even only with 2Gb (waiting for european prices to fall).

No problems worth noting in 2 weeks of use including gaming, photo manipulation, etc etv

After doing some quick calculations in my head I realized that my new Mac Pro is more powerful then all of the other computers I have ever owned combined.

Best computer I've ever owned. Nicest computer I've ever used.

First time owner (aka switcher), and I LOVE this computer! I had a slight glitch with my Bose speakers and Garageband, but 10.5.2 and then the Garageband update fixed all that.

The only thing I'm slightly not happy with is if I'm running a lot of apps at once (why not, with 10 gigs RAM and usually 4+ free?), I've had the machine just lock up on me - spinning beachball of death comes up no matter what program I click into, and the keyboard becomes unresponsive. Have to hit the power button to reset.

Thankfully this has only happened twice, but I can't explain why....anyway, other than that VERY minor issue, I'm happy as a clam to not be running windows anymore :)

Got a Mac Pro 2.8 octo as an upgrade from a Opteron 170 and couldn't be any happier. :D

Upgraded from Alu 2.8 iMac to new Mac Pro today. Installed new internal drives today and ordering additional memory tomorrow. Very happy :D

over the past couple of months I had the sleep/reboot issue but this seems to have stopped and is working great over the last 2 weeks.
Totally chuffed with it after the upgrade from the 2.8 imac :D

Spoke too soon

Dang, so much for me posting being happy and "no screen corruption", the screen corruption happened to day when browsing in Firefox...( the only application running ), hard reset "fixed" it. :(

After exchanging a defective mac pro that had the restart after sleep issue, a constant whirring noise and graphics glitches I have been cautiously satisfied.

However, I just updated to 10.5.2, and now this new computer sits on a blue screen after the grey apple screen for like 4 minutes whenever I start.

So I just don't restart. Under these circumstances, I'm not happy, but I'm too exasperated to once again drive 45 minutes to the apple store for computer number 3.

Otherwise the performance of the machine itself makes me happy, yes.

Jaded but thrilled

We buy the latest and greatest Mac for our lab as soon as it is released. And I get to use it personally. The "early 2008" 8-core Mac Pro 3.2GHz is a dream. It's quiet. It uses less power than the "mid 2007" 8-core Mac Pro 3.0GHz that it replaced.

I have only experienced the "reboot from sleep" once during the last month. I do wish there were better graphics card options and better drivers for the existing cards. Hopefully that situation will improve. "Life finds a way." Other than that, this is the best Mac tower yet.
