Naked like a porn-star. I'm bringing my macbook pro to the uni every day and it still looks brand new :)

That is one of my concerns, but the knobs on the bottom should help protect against that, no?

For me, those weren't enough because the auditorium desks are smaller and have like 5 angles sides so only one or two knobs were on the desk. On a table, yes they would be enough.

But mine travels quite a bit and it gets put down on many different surfaces, so I just wanted to be safe from scratches AND if a drink spilled I wouldn't have to worry about the battery compartment. (late 2008 MBP)

HOWEVER, my Incase case has scratched the sides and lots-o-stuff gets trapped in there that can easily cause scratches. Its a trade off for me; small barely noticeable scratches or large in-your-face ugly ones and possibly dents. I already have a few of those pre-case era.

I prefer naked, and if it gets any scratches, to me that just shows how much time and experience I have went through using it.

FYI, I still haven't got any scratches after nearly 1 year of usage.

For those of you who roll naked, how do you feel about resale value? For instance, getting some good cash for your MPB before you go splurge on a new one.

I'd rather keep it more and be able to touch and see the nice materials I paid for. When it's time for a new one, I'll give this to someone that can enjoy it. A young cousin or something.

This is a good point. I havent felt very connected to many of my computers lately, most likely because I keep them so bundled up!

Both - sort of

I use one of those sticky plastic sheets to protect the outside of my umbp.

It adds no bulk, is transparent and still protects from all but the most severe scratches or dents.

I have a speck case on my secondary MBP - but it is translucent red. I real attention-getter at starbucks.

Naked......It's a piece of art and I use it. Wrap it in plastic and put a PC sticker on it. It's like putting A1 stake sauce on Filet Mignon

Portable electronics aren't meant to be in cases... just my philosophy. My cellphone gets thrown all over the place. My MBP is well seen after, but I don't baby it 100%, waste of time really.

What stick sheets are you referring to? Also, what about screen protectors? Any suggestions?

Habitus :apple:

I have had a hardshell on it most of the time. I did go naked for a few months but I got a scratch on the bottom and immediately put the hardshell back on. I did the same with my iPhone. Naked things in life just makes me nervous. :p

mine's naked... but i would consider getting a black shell just to be a blackbook poser. JFIEOWNFE I WANT ONE.

I keep my MBP naked. It looks too good to cover up. However, I do use an Incase sleeve and Incase backpack to protect it when I travel and around campus.

Option 3: invisible shield.

i guess to each their own, but in my experience, the inisible shield BLOWS REALLY HARD. Why? well the shield is cut out of a flat piece of plastic and you have to wrap it on your curvy macbook pro. this leaves corners without the same tension as the sides. you get tiny 'waves' near the corners, which aren't always covered completely.

I use an Incase hardshell on my 13 Pro. No scratches after 6 months! When my SD card died and I went to the Genius bar for repair the Genius noted "perfect" for condition. My hardshell is on 99% of the time (off for cleaning and taking for repair) and when I put it in my backpack it is in an Incase sleeve as well. I am not about to ruin a $1600 machine because I would not spend $80 to protect it. At least get a sleeve if not a hardshell.

Hardshell = Heat.

Nope, you're wrong there.

Got a satin black Incase hardshell on mine, put it on the day I got the laptop (straight out of the box in to the case).

Got a hardshell and screen protector on my iPhone as well, and after 6 months of heavy use it's still totally perfect.
