I'm not obsessed enough to be queuing up outside the store at midnight, but I'll probably go in the following day to get my copy :)
I posted way back in the day in an older HP thread, but I just love love love the UK versions of the books (like the covers). They're so much classier.

I'll be getting my copy on the first day just like I have for all the others. I look forward to seeing how she wraps up all those hanging threads in the final book.

BTW, I'm firmly in the "Snape and Dumbledore staged that death" camp. I think that Dumbledore needed to accomplish some things behind the scenes and needed to remove that bullseye on his back.

I have no idea who Rowlings intends to kill off in the final book though. The only thing that makes sense off the top of my head is Harry having to sacrifice himself to insure Voldemort's death because their lives and powers are so intertwined. The only other option is if another character sacrifices themselves to save Harry somewhere along the line.

Can't wait... soon everyone will know that Snape is a good guy, and only killed Dumbledore because Dumbledore asked him too.

Voldemort will be much easier to catch and kill now that he trusts double agent Snape completely.

Yes, I'm serious. I will be proven right on 7-7-7

you're right, but the fact that she wrote it this way pisses me off to no end. Snape should be a bad guy. He's always been an ***hole and he killed Dumbledore. Whether or not he "had" to do it, his character is still permanently irredeemable to me, so it's a real shame that the author is going to try to redeem him. That will really hurt the last book's appeal for me.

as for the debate about whether this is "great literature," honestly, who cares? I mean really, why would you bother arguing about this? My top 5 favorite authors probably go something like this: Ayn Rand, Toni Morrison, JK Rowling, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Stephen King, in no particular order. I've read everything from Dante and Pynchon to John Grisham and enjoyed them all. I read what I like, and I don't really care how literary snobs want to classify it.

Um, I was not the one whinging about it in this thread and have no interest in discussing such a ridiculous comparison, thanks.

Aaaaanyway, I think the title is lackluster but I'll read it as quickly as I can get my hands on it.

Sorry it was a pre-emptive strike. Just in case. You know...

Okay, carry on then...

:D

I'm thinking if anyone self-sacrifices it'll be Snape, distracting Voldemort at just the right moment for Harry to take him out. I also think Harry will die in the encounter, but Hermione will bring him back from the dead by muggle means (plain old CPR). This will stop him from being a horcrux and finally kill off Voldie, but he'll end up as a squib.

And I don't think Dumbledore is coming back, although his portrait will feature in the book at some point to give advice.

No worries, I just didn't want to get lumped into *that* group, if you know what I mean. I love the Harry Potter series and can't wait for the new book. (see, I was trying to clear the thread of the haters too. :p )

I do think in this final book Harry is going to have to die though, unfortunately. </another topic>

I think Harry will die and be 'reunited' with his family and Dumbledore, giving us a happy/sad ending.

I also think that Neville will have a pivotal/heroic role - avenging his parents?

Also, Hermoine and Ron will 'get it on.' :D

she cant do that politically. she would get cursed out by the evangelical groups that she has been hated by if she has a "heaven" scene, they'll call her a hypocrite.

and no, I want to see Harry and Hermoine 'get it on'

I doubt she'd care. HP has been attacked by many religious groups and it certainly hasn't stopped her. Plus the concept of an afterlife is hardly exclusive to Christianity.

True. What might be interesting is if she find some way to get arround the ghost rule, and make them all ghosts :)

no way, it's gotta be harry and ginny!!

I agree with most of what has been said here, and yet I hope we're all wrong. If, in fact, harry dies, voldemort dies, hermione and ron end up together, snape is a good guy, neville is a hero, and so forth and so on, then JK Rowling has really lost a step. This whole series has been marked by twists and turns that nobody saw coming, and if the last book loses that and is as predictable as we all think, then it really is time for the series to be over.
