I don't know what to make of it still. Volders died in a rubbish way and I was disappointed and the very end was horrible (19 years later bit). I think it would have been much more enjoyable with an enigmatic ending although that would have lead to spin-offs (they'll will probably be written anyway though). Perhaps my expectations were too high.

I liked the way the books seemed to get more complicated as the series went on which was great for me as I read the first one when I was 8 / 9. The ending probably fitted as it is still primarily a children's book.

To say It was obvious Harry was a horcrux from before the start of the book is going too far I think. It was obvious he had some connection but not necessarily a horcrux. That connection could have been a lot of things.

I need something else to read now.

Does anybody else feel like this comes off like the end of that Jim Carrey movie (The Truman Show or something like that)? There was a lot of build-up and people were obsessed with it, and when the thing ended, it was like people were ready to move on to something else? It seems like in the aftermath of P-Day, HP has disappeared...

Yeah, but that's probably a good thing since there aren't any more books to look forward to. Harry Potter had a good run - we got an imaginative, well written story and Rowling got her billions of dollars - now it's time for it to move over for the next big thing. Well, I guess there are the last 2 movies to come still.

Finished the audiobook yesterday, enjoyed it. No real fundamental surprises, but really quite enjoyable.

Dobby's passing was the saddest part of the book for me. What I thought was lacking was any kind of real closure on the Dursleys, Dudley's apparent turn around and more on Petunia than just Snape's memories would have completed it better for me.

Thought that JKR had previously stated that Harry was not a horcrux, even though that seemed like a distinct likelihood at the end of Book 6.

The epilogue is beyond dreadful, however, and was probably written at the time of the first book.

Rowling admits that she wrote the last chapter of book seven before she wrote book one.

I loved the book. It was a perfect ending to a perfect story. I wish she would continue in some way. :)

An interview with JKR

From the interview:

Harry and Ron are Aurors, Harry is head Auror
Hermione is a wizarding lawyer
Neville and Luna together is a possibility
Luna is traveling the world looking for new creatures
The girl Teddy Lupin was snogging behind the train is Bill and Fleur's oldest
Mcgonnigal is Headmistress
Harry, Ron and Hermione changed the ministry into something great and not corrupt

Just so you know...

McGonagall is NOT headmistress. Reread the article. There's a new headmaster and DADA teacher, and the curse over the position is lifted as Voldemort is completely dead.

Final Harry Potter Book Blasted For Containing Spoilers

NEW YORK—Harry Potter fans throughout the world were shocked, disappointed, and outraged to learn last week that J.K. Rowling's 750-page novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, blatantly answers every looming question in the 10-year-long saga, even going so far as to divulge what happens to key characters 20 years into the future.

"The whole experience is completely ruined for me," said 25-year-old fan Ethan Clay, adding that the book builds up suspense, and then, without warning, gives away vital, plot-altering information. "The least [Rowling] could have done was put a spoiler alert or something on the front cover."
The Onion

:D

I love The Onion.

A question that i have is how did Harry stay alive?? When Voldemort killed him i thought that that was it. Is there something magical put in place that i missed which allowed him to return safely??

Hey finished it a little while back i just have a question... I hope no one minds me not putting it in white as its not exactly a spoiler.

Just wondering what people's interpretations of the baby and kings cross was...

I found it a little strange and didn't know whether to take it for a metaphore or whether it had an actual reason and purpose in itself!

Cheers,
Frohike

I think it's symbolism and metaphor -- the train station plays a large role in getting harry to hogwarts (as with everyone else) and in more general terms, it's a way to choose a path on a journey.

The baby could represent innocence, potential, a second chance (which Dumbledore always wanted people to have) all that good stuff.

I think it can be interpreted in many different ways.

Finished the book, thought it was great

A didn't really understand who was the "main character" who died?
Was it Voldemort, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, somebody else?
When J.K. Rowling said that a main character was gonna die, i really assumed that it would be Harry, Hermione, or Ron. And don't tell me that Harry died, because he came back to life :D
