It was extremely good, just not for young kids. Hermione gets tortured in one scene that is quite disturbing. That's when the dad with his 5+ year old twin sons in front of me left the movie.

But yes, I thought it was really impressive.

The Hermione torture scene is one of the reasons Bellatrix is my favorite character. When she appears, you know something serious is going to happen. I know everyone who watches the movies didn't read the books, but to the people who left the movie, Harry Potter hasn't been kiddy for a while now. For example, look at the WB at the start of the movie, it's not gold like it use to be in the early movies.

Spoilers Abound

As a stand-alone product the movie was good. But, as die hard fan of the books, I was a bit disappointed. They left out several things which I was hoping to see. I didn't like how they pronounced Kretchers name. I always thought it would sound more like "wretch" not "creature". I was also hoping that they would have focused on his scene more. I loved it when he hit Mundugus with a frying pan (or was it a pot?) across the head. It would have been a nice comic relief if they included it in the film.
All in all, if you don't expect it to be word for word, it's a great movie. All I have to say is, they BETTER show Molly kicking the crap out of Bellatrix in the next movie!

I thought it would be Kretcher with a soft e, but I'm not an English major nor an expert on British pronunciation. :) Bellatrix is one of my favorite characters in this series along with Sirius Black and Mad Eye. Yes something to look forward to. :)

I just saw it tonight, and enjoyed it well enough. It's been ages since I've read the book, so most of it was 'new' for me anyway. I found the ending to be as good as they could have made it, given the circumstances. It wasn't nearly as jarringly cut off as I expected it to be.

Since it's been so long since I've read the book, I don't remember what was left out, but I'm glad they didn't add any more - 2.5 hours put me at about my limit.

WOW! I knew she was hiding something under those robes.
(Ok enough drooling)

WARNING SPOILERS!!!!!!

The movie was good on its own, but as someone who read the book it was a bit off. I know film is its own medium, but the screenwriter took liberties with the material. The Harry and Hermione dance part in the tent? That completely gave the wrong idea to the non-book people. They miffed the beginning when Dudley and Harry part (it's not necessary but it's quite moving). Harry finding the letter in Sirius' room, which is essential to the ending of the movie. Kreacher's story, which helps explain one of the horcruxes, and more GINNY! Things that impressed me: Dobby, the destruction of the horcrux along with most of the CG effects, the Hallows animation, and the overall tone of the film.

I don't know, I think it was fairly obvious that it was platonic. The both of them were trying hard to put on a superficial happiness by dancing and trying to have fun to cheer themselves up, but it seemed pretty clear that they were both still very much upset down inside, and after a while the dance just sort of fizzled out as both of them decided "ah, what's the use".

At least, that's how I read it...

I agree. Don't remember, did they dance in the book? It would have livened up the story if they had had a wild one time sexual encounter, you know, under the pressure and all. The Luna pic got me onto that thought. ;)

Yeah, but she was very absent from most of the book, too. I did think their kiss scene at the beginning was one of the best moments in the book, too... and actually preferred the way the filmmakers handled it to the way the book did. Very in character for everyone, imo.

I've never read a single Harry Potter book or watched a Harry Potter film...

...but while working for a few years at one job in Kings Cross, I walked right past and next to Platform 9 3/4 every evening.

Could you clear something up for me, I know it sounds stupid but everytime I go to Kings Cross I can never seem to find that platform 9 3/4 monument.

Here's a station plan, http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/sjp/KGX/images/plans/2248-0000002.jpg, I always thought it was in that 'corridor' between platforms 8 and 9. Maybe I just haven't seen it as when I go there is alway a load of building work going on there.

Finally, I had just last weekend saw the film at the Crest, Seattle. Overall I enjoyed it much more than the previous one. I think with this one they had more time to show the mood of characters and took it's time with the characters.

I've never read the books and am just now trying to find UK printed editions in used bookstores in the PNW. I might have to take a trip to Vancouver. I've found the first book. It's small but it will do.

I saw it back around Thanksgiving... I really enjoyed it. I though it was the best movie yet, must true to the books.

Any idea of when it will be out on DVD or Bluray? I'm guessing they will release it just before the second part hits the theaters...

You say you thought it would be between platforms 8 and 9. Why would that be? Surely it would be between 9 and 10, as 9 3/4 is more than 9 and less than 10... Perhaps that's why you've never found it?
