Thanks for the suggestion. I’m just not a fan of swipe keyboards, prefer to tap.Use the “flow” (swipe) keyboard with the mini - it’s pure one handed perfection (if your language is supported).

Well…maybe when I have grandkids, IDK.
I have two kids right now, 18 and 13. We took pictures with whatever camera we had for the event (including cell phones). I guess picture taking just isn't our thing.
$Hey everyone!
I’m wondering if anyone here has “downgraded” their iPhone.
By that, I mean something like going from an iPhone 13 Pro Max to an iPhone SE 2020.
What were the reasons? Any regrets?

When I was younger I had either a Polaroid or one of those rectangular box cameras. When I got older I used disposable cameras. Cameras only came out for special events or vacations. Neither of which have happened much since the mid-90s. Oh sure, there are wedding photos and photos of the kids at important times - some of them taken with cell phone cameras. It clearly ain’t your thing. For example, I use my phone as my only camera because I grew tired of having to lug around my heavy duty camera everywhere. Especially since I’m not using the camera to make money, but at the same time I want the pictures to be so good that I feel satisfied about having taken them.
The gear is just the means of taking the shot but the actual shot comes from the person’s ideas. So just because I’m using a camera on a phone doesn’t, automatically, mean I don’t care about the pictures taken.
It seems your usage of the camera is very limited whereas mine is extensive and exclusive. It just depends on individuals. I’ve made it into a point that I want to take great pictures with just my phone. It’s a challenge for myself.
LOL.. Yeah, I've had the same groan experience over the years..lol. However, I look back on those times now as fond memories.. One of my grandma's... every gathering(mostly Christmas).. it's picture time!! Ugh...lol.. She always wanted to get all the separate families pics, then grandkids, and grandkids with her and grandpa, etc.. It was a major groan every year..lol.. She, a couple grandfathers and grandmothers and others that were in those pics are now gone.. Maybe to some extent I'm strange and dwell too much in the past?. I just figure doing pics will also be nice for our kids when they get my age, and they can look at them and think back and remember.. I like having the pics I take with me all the time. So when we do go to those family gatherings, I can pull them up almost on command. Also, I have mostly recent memory issues(brain injury), so it helps me. I had a Brownie camera as a kid, and a Kodak Elecktra 210(surprised I remember the model), and we had a Polaroid as well at one point. I treasure those Brownie and Elektra pics that survived. We had a flood in the basement once about 20 years ago and it took out most of them. The few I had left I've scanned and put them in my Photos library. Added times/dates to them so they're in their year/month folder. Technology has come a long way, and of course with every iteration of iPhone the camera gets better. This 13ProMax just blows my mind.. I have no regrets on this thing going from 6s+.When I was younger I had either a Polaroid or one of those rectangular box cameras. But you're right, our camera use is limited. Furthermore, the events we share with the people we know are just discussed more than pictures are shown. We were all there - why do we need to pull out pictures?
If it's any indication as to how my family deals with pictures, then here it is: any time my father pulled out pictures there was a collective groan from everyone. We were now about to be held hostage to my father's stories over each and every f*ing photo he had taken. And he usually shot 6-8 rolls of film per vacation or special event.
My own children roll their eyes whenever I show them a real picture or a cell phone pic they are in. They just aren't interested. In short, nobody in my family cares.
So, yeah, I guess we aren't normal.![]()
I envy families who actually have relationships with each other. My sister and I are very different people and as adults can only be around each other for a few days before the rage and fighting starts. There are reasons my family lives in separate states.LOL.. I'm not a professional photographer by any means. I shoot in JPEG! I use a kit lens! I am happy with the editing available in Photos! etc. But I do have a DSLR and I like to use it to widen my creativity options, to push back the limits of the kinds of photos I can get.Always curious as to why people need such powerful cameras. I can understand if you're a pro and it's a matter of using what's at hand. But most pros seem to buy a dedicated camera.
I also get that people want their vacation and social media photos to be the best they can, but what is this attraction to really high-end cams in a portable phone?
Finally, and I grant this. I don't use my phone cam for much. Pretty much most of my pics are stuff I take to show other people what I am seeing or my wife what's on the shelves at Walmart (so she can tell me what product to get). Most people have a little more use for their phone cameras.
So, you shake your head at 12MP, but is 12MP really necessary so my wife can choose what flavor of Ben & Jerrys to get?
I mean really, why is is necessary to have such a camera in a phone that allows you to take pictures from space?
I am on the brink of going to an 11 Pro or Pro Max to replace my 13 Pro. I'm not happy with call quality, the camera, 5G performance, and I am uncertain as to whether or not the phone is causing or exacerbating headaches. I am not ready to say it is the cause, as the two OLED phones I owned before never caused an issue (which in theory would have been more prone to doing this than the 13 Pro), and I think these headaches could be more than just from a phone. Also, the 11 Pro is more comfortable to hold for extended periods and I like the green color more. But, in sum, I was happier with my 11 Pro than I am with my 13 Pro.
I really think pro-motion will remain as a pro feature on the near future, both on the iPad and the iPhone. But, sure, regular iPhones could get 90Hz display refresh, eventually. Not in the lateral sense. But I would consider going for a regular 14/15 when I do upgrade from my 13 Pro. The Pro phones just don't really feel that much more premium to me. Especially if ProMotion comes to all models.

I actually “up” sized. going from 13 mini to 13.. just bought one yesterday and going to see how I like it. I love the mini, but I miss the screen real estate. I used the 12 for a year and the 6.1 was fine, but the only thing that annoyed me was that terrible battery health.
I’ll probably decide within 14 days if I wanna keep the mini or sell it. I may keep just because this is the last iteration of it.
How did you "live" with the major weight? I still cannot decide between the 13 and the 13 pro because of the weight.
30gr. difference aren't really "almost" the same weight and the weight difference of the 13 Pro is (for me) definitely noticeable!13 and 13 Pro are almost the same weight. They’re the exact same size.

I don’t. I am going from 13 mini to 13 so there isn’t too much of a different. iP13 is 174g which is the same weight as the iPhone X. That’s about as heavy as I’m going. How did you "live" with the major weight? I still cannot decide between the 13 and the 13 pro because of the weight.
