well, I guess a lot of people disagree with you, approximately half who purchased the max! LOL8 Plus was already too much, so I knew what to expect. Apple went too far with 13 Pro Max.

That‘s subjective, but I don’t have access to any data showing sales distribution between the two variants ??♂️well, I guess a lot of people disagree with you, approximately half who purchased the max! LOL
Weight and dimensions are not anecdotal.Like someone said recently, hat’s anecdotal at best![]()
Weight and dimensions are not anecdotal.
You seem confused about what an anecdote is.Nope but they are just figures for a subjective opinion piece. Hence an anecdote.
You seem confused about what an anecdote is.
When you sell a smartphone that is 240 gr when the average for competitors is 20/40 gr less you went too far. That’s a fact, not an opinion.
The opinion is “I can live with it” or “I can’t live with it”.
Agreed. 6.5-inch and slightly lighter would be/was perfect.Wish I didn't read this post lol, I have the sickness now. I have a 13PM on the way in hopes of having an easier time reading on it. Seems the 11PM may have been the sweet spot for some Max users. It would be nice to have the new style with a 6.5 screen like the 11PM.
I think some may make this more complicated than it should be. This isn’t the first time two different pro sizes are available and in addition to the tons of reviews , feature parity and posts on the matter there’s also a generous return policy, at least if you buy from Apple, in a lot of countries. And the latter is even extended over the holiday season.
When people are spending $1000-1500 on the phone, they get a little anxious about buyers remorse. A lot of people also don’t like to have to deal with the return process. That can cause anxiety as well.
They don’t “make it more complicated.” It just may be that it IS more complicated for them.
Doesn’t matter how much info is out there. The iPhone user demographic is wide in America. There are plenty of people who just want to buy a phone and all that info is overwhelming. Add to it the complications getting hands-on with the device and it makes sense that people are struggling with the decision.
Be that as it may, I bet the majority who shop for flagship devices are enthusiast users who know relatively well what they’re looking for. In this case it comes down to dimensions.
You are free to read one hundred different opinions from strangers or make your own experience to which there are multiple paths.
“The iPhone 12 Pro Max had the largest share of any single model…”
“The most expensive models continued to capture a high share of total sales, along with the almost two-year-old lower-priced iPhone 11”

Nearly 200 million iPhone customers across all models with a significant number going towards Pro models. That adds up to a lot of enthusiasts according to your logic.
And the flagship it is not, that’s the 13 pro models this discussion is about. Their differences are well documented, and they share the same hardware features. One is slightly bigger, heavier and has a bit longer battery life. Which one of the two models we discussed here is, once again, purely personal preference based on the above points.
Knock yourself out and provide all the advice you want, my opinion still stands. Nothing beats making your own experiences and there’s plenty chance to pick either of the 2 in question.
I see what ericwn is saying and what you're saying. Most people I know don't think twice about the size of their iPhone. I think the % of people doing that overall are really small - obviously, those of us here at Macrumors might have a bit of a higher % - but even of all the macrumors users, I think that even here, that % is small. The data was in regards to iPhone 13, but they mentioned 12 Pro Max. Point is it’s still a flagship even if it’s not this year’s. And “expensive models” is referring to all Pro models. That includes 13 Pro and Pro Max.
I’m not sure we’re even having the same discussion any more.
People have trouble deciding what size for various reasons. The online info doesn’t always help. Not being able to get hands-on makes things harder.
I’m not giving advice. I’m empathizing with people who have a difficult time choosing which size they want to buy. My response to you was because I took it that you believe this should be an easy decision and that there is no issue.
There is an issue. You just haven’t experienced it and can’t seem to comprehend why anyone would. To me, you either don’t understand the issue or have a weird perspective based on your personal experiences. Or maybe we really are on completely different pages with the topic of conversation.

It seems that there has been a fair amount of movement between the 13 Pro and Pro Max in both directions! Curious to hear why you made the move and are you glad you did?
So this dilemma is real and perfectly justified, and it's also not going to go away.
The primary issue is that reading is easier on the Max size phone, but at the same time the current Max is too heavy, too thick, uncomfortable to hold, and also darned expensive. Those things are not going to be wished away.
The solution is to go back to an iPhone 8 Plus, which has the same ease of reading (side to side, horizontal) as the Max phones. It's also much lighter and more pleasing to hold.
Oh, and you'll save a ton of money.
Bottom line: Apple's current lineup sucks. Tradeoffs in every direction.
(And the notch...butt ugly.)
Owning both a Max and an 8 Plus I’ll pick the Max anytime. For me it’s easier to hold, I don’t mind the extra weight, the screen is nicer.
It’s all personal preference. Sweeping generalisations don’t help anyone.
