The closest thing I have to a regret is getting wi-fi instead of 3G, but I know it's what was in my budget right now. However, I love the thing so much (even more than I expected to) that I know I'll be upgrading in a couple of years when I can afford a 3G (probably 4G by then) model with a data plan.

The wi-fi works totally fine, btw, but damn it would be nice to have internet everywhere.

I can guarantee that anyone on here doesn't actually need an iPad because to use it, you need a computer. So, if you have a computer already, you really don't need an iPad.

That said, you certainly don't have to "need" something to justify its purchase. You know, you can just purchase something because it's fun to use and convenient for your uses.

I'm kind of in that mindset that I really wanted it so much that I convinced myself that I kinda needed it. When in the end, it only serves me at 50% capacity when I'm trying to work on it. as of now, I dont have a laptop, so i do NEED it, but once I get a laptop, it'll just be a want..

I love my 32GB V3G iPad2, however I would gladly take back the $800 and return to my iPad1 (if I hadn't sold it). For what I use it for, the upgrades just weren't that significant. Not a hater or a fanboy, just speaking with over a month of hindsight...

First off no one NEEDS an iPad, we got it because we wanted it. There's no justifying an underpowered tablet as opposed to a laptop/desktop. They don't really compare.

My iPad 2 is being delivered today but I wont see it until the weekend when I get to my parents home. I kept changing my mind about wether to get one or not & still even now im not sure I made the right decision. I have the iPhone 4 & im of the belief that the iPad is just a huge iPod touch & no more!!

If you really believed that, I don't see why you bought it? And I hate when people say that because I think it's crap. You can have a television screen small enough to put in your pocket, like one can do on a cellphone, but no one would say they didn't need a full-sized tv because they can watch tv on their phone. They both have their own specific uses, and the question isn't the usefulness of the device, it's whether or not it's useful to you specifically. I never had a desire to own an iPad until one day I realized that it was the perfect device to fill a particular need, and I'm very happy with my choice.

I do. At my job I have to do support for Mac and iOS developers and I can't do that if I can't use the apps, try to reproduce bugs, etc.

I obsessed about it for weeks and drove everyone around me mad going on about it. When I ordered mine it was a releif that I knew I was getting it. Sad as that may sound. Yeah it's a wedge of cash to lay out but I don't regret it. I thoroughly enjoy my iPad 2. I've barely put it down since it arrived.

Heh, just download the Flipboard App and enjoy. In other words you need to experience the form factor and the iPad exclusive apps to really understand its value. It's definitely not a big iPod touch.

If your family is really enjoying it so much, why not let them keep it? You may not have a use for it, but it seems that THEY do!

Their uses are light web browsing or checking email while in the lounge :p. I'm sure a 64gb 3G iPad is a little overkill when they have their smart phones on them 24/7 plus there is the Vaio we keep down there too...

Instead of relying on someone to talk you into a purchase that you seem to realize you 1.) don't need and 2.) can't really afford, why not just return it (which it sounds like you already know you should do anyway)?

I hear what you're saying but lighten up dude- this is the Internet

I sold my 64gb 3G iPad a few months ago for $725 in anticipation of getting the iPad 2 (knowing it was coming soon and would impact resale value). I got the iPad 2 a few weeks ago and after playing with it for a week determined that it was a pointless upgrade for me, in fact I didn't like the feel of the new version. It seems that in order to save weight and make it thinner Apple cut down on the amount of aluminum and consequently it feels flimsy compared to the original iPad. I compared the speed side-by-side with my wife's iPad and determined that the original's speed is just dandy. I also hated how the buttons and dock connector are on the backside rather than the edges.

So....

I put an ad on CraigsList offering to trade my 16gb 3G iPad 2 for the same config in an original model plus they kick in $300 bucks. I ended up doing a trade with a local guy who gave me 2 original iPads in exchange for my iPad 2. One was a 16GB with 3G and one was a 16GB Wifi model. It worked out great because I sold the Wifi version to a friend for $300 and kept the 3G version for myself.

I am a happy camper back with the original iPad :)

seriously, that is some kind of trade! how did you manage it? CL is insane...

I agree - Flipboard is actually exactly the app that made me go "Huh, wow, this really is something new and different." And Flipboard is really not anything revolutionary, I think it's just the tip of the iceberg. Another two years from now, as people get used to the new possibilities, I think we'll be seeing apps that really push what you can do with a computer/mobile device.

Flimsy? Was there something wrong with your copy? Couldn't think of bending my iPad 2 in any shape or form. Pretty solid piece of hardware. I say to each his/her own though. If the first one is enough for you, then you saved some money. I will bet however that there will be plenty of apps coming out to take advantage of the new hardware in the iPad 2, which virtually none do right now, which is why its a bit silly to try and compare the two with today's apps. The original iPad capabilities will quickly show their age as more developers get on board with the new tech.

Mine doesn't replace a laptop but we're going away for a weeks holiday soon and I shall be leaving the laptop at home as an experiment. The hotel we're staying at has free wifi so I'll be able to keep in touch with what's happening at home, mit even give FaceTime a try just for kicks.

Looking forward to carrying less weight and being able to read and watch videos on the plane comfortably.

Really wish there was a file system though.

you can have filesystem with apps like iFiles or Good reader, i have good reader, but i rarely used it because i think iPad is ok even without filesystem. only to store some of credit cards bills and other important notes.

I waiteded snd looked at them every time I was in best buy I waited waited waited asking myself if I really needed this device after finally buying iPad 1 on Verizon's clearance I haven't put it down no no one needs one but it's an awesome device once u plunge

Just finished watching 3 seasons of Deadwood on my Ipad 1. Couldn't imagine doing that on my iphone 4, not to mention that Xfinity does not play movies on Iphone.

Yes it is a luxury device, and really isn't needed, but aren't many items we all own?

Haven't used Ipad 2 yet, so if I am missing something, I don't know what it is!

Certainly wouldn't use a camera on my Ipad, so I will wait until they come out with more of an upgrade.

This is my 1st Ipad. I waited for the 2g as I never buy the 1st gen. or anything. I have a Touch and initially thought the Ipad was a glorified version of the touch. I was wrong. The Ipad is so much more "useable" and fun. The apps are fantastic (much better than those for the Touch) and there is just so many cool things you can do on it. Yeah, it's a "toy" for me, but what a cool toy to have. I like it's lightness and tote-ability. I can surf the web, read the news, edit photos, etc. from anywhere. My hubby is also happy as I"m not planted in front of my Imac upstairs anymore...he can still converse with me instead of yelling up the stairs "you coming down soon????" :D

It is definitely a want, not a need, but I'm hooked now and am considering selling my Touch as it slowly gathers dust....

:apple:

I got my original iPad last summer as a bit of a toy. Since I've owned one I've become more and more reliant on it, and I use it for much more than I originally intended. I got an iPad 2 three days after launch and haven't had any regrets. I also have an iPhone 4. You'll be surprised.

It just depends on your usage. I use mine partly for work (college professor) and a file system (or something new that lets me do the same types of things) would be a big help.

I can organize documents in good reader, but it's a pain to e-mail them to colleagues as I can only do one at a time, and have to do it from within the app rather than opening the e-mail app and attaching multiple files to one document.

Also a pain to get files into multiple apps--say if you want to read a file in goodreader and annotate it in iAnnotate or something like that. You have to send it to the apps separately and thus have two copies of the file on the iPad.

But none of that stuff really comes up much if one's just using it for personal use to surf the net, play games, check e-mails etc. And that's what the device is really meant for.

And I knew that going in as my girlfriend had an iPad 1 from launch, so I knew I'd get pretty limited work use out of it. So I'm not let down by it or anything as I knew what I was getting. I bought it as a temporary tablet solution until MS or someone else puts out one that's more designed for work use and has a more functional file system, USB drive support, tablet versions of MS Office etc.

iPad is great for personal use, works for me for some work tasks like reading PDFs or taking short notes in meetings, but I personally need/want something a few steps closer to a PC in terms of functionality so it can fit better into my personal work flow.

Love my iPad2

I bought an iPad2 on a whim when my fiancee bought hers. Since we are going to be apart for a few months, I figured we can use Facetime as a means to stay in touch.

I am a PC guy, and my prior Apple products are 30GB iPod (not sure what gen, but 3-4 years old), iPhone 3GS, and now iPhone 4. I waited 3 days to open mine, and I wondered why the hell I waited 3 days to do it.

Since I have opened it, I haven't even touched my laptop let alone my desktop. Ok, maybe a couple of times to play Starcraft 2 and Shogun 2 once in a while.

I use it for email, browsing the web, play games, watch movies, write journals, take notes for work/personal, and more. I love the iPad2!
