I'm sort of in the same boat. I do use it though, but not in crazy amounts like people talk about. There really isn't anything it does that can't be done on my iPhone 4 or MBP. As for reading ebooks, playing games, or surfing the net, I usually find myself grabbing for my iPhone 4 instead of my iPad. It's more convenient to do so because it's always in my pocket.

My wife wanted it so she could watch Internet videos. She tried it out, but the videos were too choppy. She's basically abandoned it for our MBP. Apparently I need the power of a MBP to watch dumb videos embedded on the net.

Some here have returned their iPads or sold them after awhile b/c they got tired of it. I understand them though I love my iPad.

If I didnt need the iPad at work, I would prob return it as well as it is not used THAT much at home. I like my laptop for work at home.

I sold my iPad 1 in December hoping to get a decent amount from it to stop it from losing anymore money.

I've pretty much regretted it since...

Oh I'm sure you'll get over the awkwardness of wrestling the iPad away from your family when your 'nice shiny 13" i7 MBP' and '27" cinema display' arrive.

You know, you could always try to integrate your family into your life. It goes something like this…

Tsuchiya, I owe you an apology. I don't know why, but when you said 'my family' I assumed you were older and referring to your partner and children. From that perspective it made me angry… I suppose because there are some men out there that treat their families like second class citizens — who think nothing of spending money on themselves (be it a computer, motorbike, golf club membership, drinking at the pub, whatever) while their family gets the scraps. I didn't even stop to think that you might still be living at home with your parents, and that puts an entirely different perspective on it.

Again, I'm very sorry for causing unwarranted offence. I've now removed my comment.

Buddy of mine swears by his iPhone3GS and can't figure out what he'd use a tablet for. I shunned the iPhone/smartphone market because I couldn't fathom spending so much monthly for such a tiny screen device.

You do different things with a tablet than a cell phone. All that screen real estate means you can do the tasks of a computer more naturally. Reading and watching video is especially better experiences. Gameplay can be as well since you have the multi-touch display.

I do go periods when I don't use any of my mobile devices much in lieu of my laptop. But when I want to get away from the desk the iPad makes a nicer experience than my Android phone or iPod Touch.
