Yea, they have an install video, and it looks really nice to me. I think i might get this instead of the just stick it.

I know there are other companies that have a "softer" feeling skin that it perhaps a little more padded. SGP has one for the ipad1 and they are made of polyurethane. Although padding would be nice for protection, I'm sure they will not be able to cover the entire back area do to the shape/design of the ipad2. Which is why I'm guessing Lucky Labs' design is the way it is.

Just a guess though....I dont have hands on experience with either

I just ordered a black carbon fiber back from icarbon. I have an white ipad 2, so i was looking for a nice contrast between the front and the back. Hope that looks good. The white carbon didnt look great, and probably wouldnt be the same color white either

Ooo those iCarbons look really nice. If I don't like the Phantom Skinz matte back that I ordered I might have to try one of those.

zagg

Do the Zagg skins cover the complete back (corners included)? I got the Zagg on the front today and I hate it. It attracts dirt and it doesn't actually fit right. The hole for the camera is off and the button too. Does anyone have a good fitting (easy to install) protector for the front? I need to get a good one.

Sotie, or anyone who has the leather skin from Juststickitskins, is the leather feel incorporated? Like does it feel at all padded and does it create a non slip kind of surface? I am just curious.

I'm curious about this too. I love the look of the faux leather to match my black leather smart cover but I want something a bit padded and non-slip.

I already mentioned in my earlier post with pictures that it's vey thin and there's no padding. One of the pictures I posted is a view from the side which illustrates how thin it is. I really love the way it looks. Everyone that's seen it has given me compliments on the look as well.

Clear Skin

Bezel skins look tacky, I think.

Can you guys make clear skins? There's something about getting my ipad wet that turns me off of Zagg and Best Skin Ever but I would go for a clear dry apply skin even if it meant not having full coverage around the corners and edges.

I would be interested in a clear skin also, if possible.

Did anyone else order from i carbon. I orderedf from them yesterday afternoon, and just reeived an email verifying my order#. nothing yet in regards to shipping, and i cant find anywhere on their site where you can check your order status

I just received and installed the faux black leather skin from ebay seller juststickitskins. The brand name on the packaging is "Surface Skins". Here are my thoughts on it...

Someone asked about the seller's communication. I purchased on Sunday and we emailed each other back and forth three times yesterday regarding shipping. I paid extra for expedited because I wanted to receive it in time before I take off on a business trip tomorrow. Maybe he's more responsive after the sale than prior?

I know from reading the posts here that many people don't like that this style of skin leaves the ipad case edges exposed and would like to see the skin continue all the way over the curved case edge. I had no problem ordering this and actually find the look to be aesthetically pleasing. I really like the look of the black skin juxtoposed with the silver aluminum of the ipad case.

I was very concerned that while using the smart cover in the typing position the exposed case edge would be in contact with the desk/countertop. However, the skin extends just enough to barely cover any part of the case that touches while in typing position. I tried to take a picture of this to illustrate my point.

The skin is very thin. I actually didn't expect it to be so thin. While standing in the ipad 2 line last Friday I saw someone with a Carbon Fiber SGP skin intalled on his ipad 1. My memory might be off but I seemed to remember that it was quite a bit thicker than this skin. Being thicker it had a "padded" feeling to it. I think I would prefer to have that padded feeling while holding the ipad but on the other hand it probably wouldn't look too good where the skin stops and the edges meet the case. This skin will definitely provide scratch protection as it was meant to do.

The apple logo is actually cut out from the skin. It looks nice but the logo is at risk of being scratched.

I quickly noticed that the skin attracts oils from my fingers/hands very easily. I grabbed my ipad mico fiber cloth and it didn't immediately wipe off so I squirted a little of my screen cleaning fluid which I use on the ipad screen and it came right off.

Installation: I began from the top so I could perfectly align the camera hole and worked my way down. Everytime I got to the apple logo it wouldn't line up perfectly. After a few tries I decided to start from the logo in the middle and work my way up then finished by working from the middle to the bottom. With this method I got it perfect on the first try.

Overall I'm satisfied with it as it will provide the scratch protection I'm looking for and I think it looks good. I'm sure I'll be keeping my eye on the market and see what else is offered in the next few months. I just saw that dodocase has an ipad 2 skin for sale called BOOKback. They advertise it as Morrocan fabric combined with a reusable, peel and stick adhesive. I'll be watching that one because it probably gives more of the "padded" feeling that I'd prefer.

@sotie - how are the edges/corners holding up? Any signs of peeling back at all?

Debating on the faux leather one......or maybe the carbon fiber if that one doesn't show finger prints as much. Anyone know?

The Carbon Fiber should show less fingerprints than the faux leather - I should get mine either today or tomorrow, will post pics and let you know.

No peeling as of yet.

Sotie,

Thanks for posting the pictures. Super helpful.

Random question... I know its a subjective thing but I was wondering if you could tell me how close a match the color and pattern are to the black leather Apple black leather smart cover. Obviously they aren't ever really "side to side" so the match doesn't need to be perfect but is it close with the skin you got..?

Anyone have an experience with other brands of skins in black leather and how well they match with the Apple smart cover..?

Clear backing

I know I asked before, but have you been able to create a clear backing? I am not really interested in covering the corners as much as I am the back.

I'm looking for this same information, the smart cover is quite smooth and Im on the fence about waiting for one of the smooth matte finishes coming. It looks great by Sotie's pics but the finishes look different.

Here are side-by-side pictures with the black leather smart cover for those asking for a comparison. Obviously the finish isn't the same but since I'm never seeing both at the same time it doesn't bother me.

Great pics

Thanks! That sealed the deal for me, I'll be buying from this vendor. Which one remains to be seen, but since I can't get my hands on an iPad 2 yet anyway, there's no huge rush to decide.

Thanks for the pictures. I know you don't see the two sides together but I may prefer the matte black finish when it comes out. Clinton when you check in will the Matte Black be leather like? If not I'll certainly go with this, I like the cut and finish.

I like the finish too... I do wonder if a matte black "soft touch plastic" feel might be a optimal match. I also like the cut of this one -- some of the backings are very conservative in how far they creep out to the edge of the iPad and leave a really huge silver bezel around the back -- not a fan.

I do with the backing had a cutout for the black 3G antenna bar at the top. I can see simplifying things and not having two separate models.. Ad certainly having another cutout it just one more place that requires more perfect placement of laying down the back.. But having the backing just tape over it and have that bump there definitely reinforces (at least to m slightly OCD sensibilities) that its a "big sticker" in the back of the iPad rather than something that has the appearance of being more of a design element engineered into the device..

Guys just make sure when installing, you get it right the FIRST time. This skin is of very low quality and is VERY unforgiving if you need to peel back and reapply.

I tried installing it and came up half a mm short on one side. I peeled it back to fix it and the whole thing got messed up. Creases, cracks and all. So just make sure you get it right the first time.

The SGP I had on my ipad1 was much more forgiving when fixing and reapplying. It was also much thicker, but not padded. This one is very thin, almost like a post-it.

Clinton was nice enough to refund my money. I'm most probably going to order the icarbons version.

In my pictures the "bump" from the 3g antenna bar is more pronounced than it is in person. For some reason you can really notice in the pictures but I'm looking at it right now in person and I see it but it doesn't look that bad to me.

I removed and reapplied 5 times before I got mine right and each time I removed it came off fine with no issues. Now it's on perfectly. So I'm saying if you don't get it right the first time it's okay as long as you're careful. However, I didn't press down hard until I was certain that the skin was perfectly in place and didn't need to be reapplied again. My problem was that I kept starting at the top with the camera hole and everytime I got to the apple logo it wasn't lining up right. So I eventually decided to start in the middle with the logo then worked my way up to the top, then began again at the middle and worked down. Once I tried this way I got it right on the first attempt. Also, don't be afraid to use a hair dryer to get the corners right!

Same thing happened to me!!!!! It does not sound like you and I have the same skin. I did not press hard or anything. I have applied many skins before to my MacBook air, blackberry, acer laptop, hp desktop, previous ipad1. So I know how to install a skin well. I also have installed vinyl overlays to my car and such, so I know pretty well how to install a skin and similar products. Something just doesn't sound right.
