Same here, I received an email from AT&T at 12:16am stating that my iPad was now on back-order. No estimate of shipping at all.

I haven't even received an email. I had to go check my status to receive the lame news.
 
No need to be sorry man. Be happy you got yours. I didn't mean to sound like a selfish idiot, just definitely shows they have no friggin idea what they're doing. I'm sure it'll ship Monday when it's supposed to. Thanks for the insight.

No offense taken. It took me until three days ago to find an iPhone 6, so I understand the frustration.

I can't believe AT&T would follow anything other than a first-come, first-served order-fulfillment policy, so the whole thing is weird. If anything, I expected my iPad Air to take longer than the "7 to 14 business days" the web site quoted and that the sales rep's confidence was just a ploy to get me to place an order, but either she was right or I got lucky.

Hopefully this will change in the next few days. The insane delay is reminiscent of an iPhone launch. Didn't expect to wait nearly 3 weeks (and counting) to receive an iPad. Luckily my iPad Air is sufficient, but I would like the new model, soon!

Seems like supplies of the ATT 128 LTE are constrained in particular.

AT&T's order page for the 128 LTE model is currently quoting 7 to 14 business days shipping estimates but at this point that just seems like a complete fabrication.
 
I'd mentioned about the issues I had with my order so I cancelled and replaced for store pick up. Well, as smooth as I thought thtat had gone, turns out the rep modified my plan without my consent. I'd originally added the iPad to a mobile share plan since I left my wife on AT&T, but the rep made a separate plan for the iPad 1gb for $35. I noticed it while monitoring my wife's data useage.

Thankfully I caught it and called in and it was fixed but man that was sneaky of the girl who helped me. I should've paid closer attention to what she was saying instead of focusing on her rack :p.

I thought it was odd that she put a SIM card inside the bag.

This morning (11/01) woke to an email from AT&T stating that the item has been backordered and they would email me when it had shipped.

Get home from working I see an email from AT&T. Could it be that it shipped? I wondered. Opened up the email from AT&T and was greeted by an email telling me that the item I ordered (iPad Air 2 SG 128LTE) was "Not Available" and that they would notify me "if/when" it became available and that they were sorry and appreciate my patience.

Needless to sa I am not pleased.
 
I ordered on 10/23 and have shipping estimates of 11/3 - 11/7. Still says "Preparing to ship."

Doesn't sound like I'm going to get it in those dates I guess.

This is what pisses me off so much with AT&T...It's as though they just dont care whatsoever. The fact that I can walk into either Apple Store in NH right this minute and buy a Space Gray 128GB LTE iPad or order it online with it shipping within 3 days shows to me that AT&T has no clue what they are doing. Especially when another gentleman who orders days after us the same model has it shipped out near instantly (no offense to said person, I am glad you got it, merely mad at the system)...

I guess the good thing is it's still Preparing to Ship. Guess we'll see next week.
 
I ordered my 128GB Space Gray on the first day of pre-orders, before even Apple was taking them, and mine is still "Preorder Processing

I am crazy livid with AT&T right now.

I decided to use the Live Chat to speak with an order specialist about my iPad Air 2 order that's been "Preparing to Ship" since the day after I pre ordered. Which, mind you, I pre ordered an hour after they went live in a corporate AT&T store. My shipping dates have always been "11/3/14 to 11/7/14" and they haven't changed. I haven't gotten any backordered emails, or changes or anything. My order was for a 64GB Air 2 in Space Grey.

So this woman in chat asks me to provide my order number, telephone number associated with the new iPad, name, pin, etc. Here's what she proceeds to tell me:

Maryann: I am showing here that the estimated shipment dates are between 11/28/2014 To 12/09/2014. It is possible that the order will be sent out before then, the dates that have been provided are just expected ship dates. However, the devices are all sent out on a first come first serve basis. At this time this phone is in very high demand, as you can imagine. So there really is no way of telling exactly where you are in line. We would only be able to go off of the ship dates that have been provided to you.

Holy ****. 11/28/14 to 12/09/14?? What the heck happened?! I'm hoping she made a giant error, because the said "phone" and I specifically mentioned an iPad. But there's NO way someone who ordered an hour after pre orders went live would have the order pushed back this far. She also had the audacity to put the icing on the cake right before the chat ended and said "Oh, by the way, the item is currently backordered."

tl;dr Don't contact any order specialists about your order. It might raise your blood pressure beyond measure.
 
Ordered mine on 10/20 - 64GB Space Gray. Same expected ship dates (11/3-11/7.) Just chatted with a specialist and was told it's still supposed to ship during those dates. I think I'm going to be demanding some bill credit or something else if they don't hold their end. Apple has had plenty of stock at my local Apple store for about a week now, and I would love to spend the money and just get that but I can only afford the ATT Next price at the moment.


I really wish their was a U.S. carrier that was better. More transparent about what they are charging you for, better service (not coverage, just not the BS a typical customer has to experience, for example when I called to check local stock in a store, if it rings past 8 times it transfers you to a national line without an option to keep waiting for the next available person at the specific store you called), better mobile apps, and handled preorders better.

I would just go to the Apple store and get it, but I was getting this iPad under the Next program and trading in my iPad 4 so I guess I am stuck.

I'm stuck as well. I was doing Next and I took my money from my iPad Air sale and used it to pay off my iPhone 6 (also on Next) so the $800 for my iPad went to AT&T in good faith that they would ship my iPad Air 2 out accordingly. Never again, AT&T.

I had been wondering if it was possible that maybe Apple was the cause behind this ridiculous delay, but no, it has to be AT&T and their mismanagement. Over on the Verizon pre-order thread pretty much everyone had their iPad ship out on or around the 27th of Oct.

The only theory I can think of is that AT&T is intentionally holding these units back for those that ordered through AT&T Next. It sounds crazy, but AT&T def doesn't make nearly as much money off of a tablet compared to the iPhone through Next. It's as though they are upset that we didn't buy it in full from them. It's a crazy theory, but one does have to wonder at times what is going on...There is clearly no shortage of iPad Air's for AT&T.

Hopefully it ships this week for all of us, otherwise I will most likely just cancel my order and buy it directly from Apple in January after I recover from Christmas shopping!

I ordered my silver 128 air 2 on the first day also. I'm not using the Next program, so everyone is being treated this way. Not just the Next folks.

I am only staying with this order because I got a $100 credit for new hardware and my credit card gives me 5% off at&t purchases.
 
Spoke with another ATT rep. This one told me that on Thursday the system was updated with a new in-stock estimate for the iPad Air 2 LTE 128 of 7-14 business days. She was careful to emphasize that this is simply the new inventory information in the system, and could change positively or negatively before then. It seems like nobody at ATT really knows what's going on. I also know that every single Apple Store within a thirty mile radius of me has the 128 LTE models in stock for pick-up (I just checked). Clearly ATT does not have the same inventory. Why that's the case, I have no idea.
