"Apple is struggling to fit a second camera in"
"Apple ran out of room for battery"
"The Air's components are housed in its camera bump (stop calling it a plateau please)"
"If the air got a second camera it wouldn't fit with the rest of the lineup's design language"
Are we serious that apple hasn't considered just vertically stacking the camera like all those base iphone 18 mockups?

SO MUCH SIMPLER.
Rant over.

You’ve already stated the reason it isn’t a viable option. The whole computing of the device is done within the “camera bump”. By making it twice the size you then decrease battery size which is already at a limit where making it smaller will affect sales.

..just put the battery in the camera bump?

Apple doesn’t make major changes to frames and component layouts every single year. This might be something considered for Air 4… if the product goes that long.

The camera plateau literally contains the camera, earpiece, Face ID, and speaker. It contains only part of the A19.

Even if you double the size of the plateau, the computing part doesn't fit into the plateau.

In short, if a second camera is added by doubling the plateau, the battery capacity will decrease.
