Yes, it really has.

In the past I've owned an iPad 2 and iPad Mini. Both got used rarely once the novelty wore off. I always used the iMac/MacBook that I owned at the time as a preference. Now the only time I use the rMBP is when I think "man I haven't used my MacBook in a while".

I own an iPad Air 2, it's a great device and does everything I need. Although I do get extremely frustrated with writing and manipulating text - iOS is so frustrating in that regard.

I would say in another year or two, the Air 2 and rMBP will be sold, and I'll be using iPad Pro model.

I would never trade computer gadget . Because ipad or iphone , only gadget I use is multitasking , programming , shh , virtual machines . You use a computer in my life much more convenient

What do you use for PDF software do you use for your iPad Pro? I haven't had any luck with finding a good one to use. Thanks!

Right now, I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader. It's a free app. The only problem I have encountered is that I am signing in red which when printed isn't as dark as I'd like. I haven't figured out how to get the colors changed, yet.

Except a computer doesn't tuck under your arm conveniently. I was at Walt Disney World, when some documents were sent to me that had to be signed and returned. I did it right there in the line for Soarin' at EPCOT. Even though I am on vacation, there are things that I will still have to handle at the offices. Now that I have the full Microsoft Office suite on the iPad Pro, it is suitable to do what I need it to do. Of course, I still have the MacBook but it can stay at the Contemporary Resort while we play.

I was just at Disney World in December. (Soarin' was super cool!) I was looking a lot at what kind of tech people were using there. I was totally shocked at how many Apple Watches I saw. It literally seemed like almost every other person was wearing one. Android phones also seemed pretty scarce there.

But I also noticed that I saw NO laptops. Well, I saw one. There was a guy at the gas station on our way down who was using one to read the meters on the gas pumps. Other than that, it was all phones and iPads. I saw lots of iPad minis and 9.7" iPads being carried around inside the parks and at the Art of Animation resort where we stayed. In the mornings when I would go down to get my coffee, the people that were sitting around drinking their coffee were all on iPads, not laptops. I even saw one iPad Pro, and that was only about 2 or 3 weeks after they released to the public.

But my main takeaway for my personal use cases at Disney World? I didn't need a laptop OR an iPad. My iPhone 6s and Apple Watch really were the only things I needed to take there with me. If I could go back in time and do something differently about how I packed for that trip, it would have been to leave the iPad at home. For me, it's the iPhone that kills all the usage of my other devices, not the iPad. The iPhone kind of kills my iPad usage sometimes too! Especially when I'm on a vacation where we're out and about walking around for 10 or 12 hours a day.

The lack of RAM is what is killing your web browsing experience. I have no issues with my Air 2 or my wife's mini 4. Now my 6+ is a different story....

So you mean to say if the iPad Air has atleast 4GB RAM it works as smooth as a Ferrari Car ?

Man...my iPad Air 2 from last year already killed my MacBook Pro. After having the air 2 for a few months, I noticed I never even opened my retina MacBook Pro. It just sat on a shelf with a dead battery for a long time. So I sold it

Now I have an iPad pro and don't miss having a laptop at all. I have an old MacBook hooked up to the tv for the few times I might need to write code, but it's very rarely. I use my iPad pro for everything. It's so much more convenient. Attach that smart keyboard and use it as a laptop style device for awhile (like I am as I type this right now) or rip off the keyboard and lay in bed with my pro watching movies or playing games. It's beautiful. I feel like after all these years I finally found the perfect device. Most people I've met who say they can't abandon their laptops are that way because they can't wrap their heads around touch screens and tablets in general. They're used to the old way of doing things

You say that your iPP has changed everything for you and you don't need a full blown computer like a Laptop anymore, how do you mange your Office word, excel, powerpoint making, editing stuff ? is it not cumbersome doing that on a iPad.

i bought a surface pro as a laptop, but for general media and consumption I use my iPad Air.

I sold my air 2 a week ago in anticipation of the new one coming out (sell it earlier before it loses value). For a few days I managed with my iPhone as the sofa browser, but the tiny screen drove me crazy, so i tried out the surface pro in tablet mode.

It's surprisingly good.

I'd expected it to be almost useless in tablet mode - Windows 10 was a step back in touch usability from win 8.1. But for general browsing and media consumption it's more than fine. Chrome syncs with my desktop bookmarks and has swipe to go forward/back a page, and it finally has smooth scrolling. If I use it in landscape the browser feels a bit wide, so I snap it to the left and then I can put Twitter or email on the left like I sometimes do on my air 2.

It made me wonder if I should even buy a new iPad - this was really nice.

And then I tried typing on it. Oh dear, the touch keyboard is a disaster. I think partly it's the different size that I'm not used to compared to the iPad - especially in landscape mode. But more importantly there is no autocorrect. Even on iPad I would mistype a letter in a word often, but autocorrect would usually sort it out. And it'd capitalise 'I' and the first letter of sentences for me. The Windows one does none of that - it is literally a virtual version of a physical keyboard and that makes it almost unusable for me.

I think maybe that is because of how the keyboard has to work with standard Windows apps - the app is just expecting keyboard presses. I also read that some MS apps do support autocorrect, but I can't use the edge browser until it gets gesture support and extensions, so that doesn't help me.

Ironically, getting used to the larger size of the surface pro (it's fantastic for watching videos), kind of makes me want the larger iPad pro now, which I'd previously dismissed :). I'm in half a mind to buy one now and try for a week or so before the 9.7" pro comes out

I use iPad more on the go when i'm walking with clients and in couch potato mode at home, but in my office i use almost exclusively MacBook Pro.

Ah...Ah...Topic Diversion lol ! Macbook vs iPad not Surface Pro vs iPad ;)

I don't know how Ghost31 does it, but in my case, I never found it very comfortable to use a laptop on my lap. I always needed a desk/table to work on a laptop. The iPad is the first device that I found comfortable to use on sofa/bed. So even though Office apps are a bit clumsier on the iPad, that's offset by being able to work away from my desk. Add to that I spend a lot of time typing Japanese, and the Japanese input system on iOS is superior to the one on Windows, and is in many cases faster and easier than the one in OS X, and I'm more than willing to put up with the occasional clumsiness of iOS software. I still have an iMac, which is just being used as my media center. I spend most of my time on my iPad.

The iPad Pro has replaced my laptop use almost entirely at work, and entirely at home.

At home/on the go, it's the iPad 100%.

At work, I still need the laptop for Visual Studio / AquaData Studio development work. I haven't quite found a workflow replacement for these tools yet (RDP doesn't count). :)

When we go to the Walt Disney World resort, we take a lot of tech. My DD13 and I both are wearing Apple Watches. My DD13 and her 7-year-old sister have iPads. I've got my iPad Pro. And of course, our iPhones. There are many apps that we use while there to determine line wait times, menus from restaurants, park maps, etc. It would probably make a real good thread.

I find that I can take my iPad Pro, the Apple Keyboard, and Apple Pencil anywhere. The battery life is phenomenal. Right now, I'm sitting on my deck using the iPad Pro to post this message. It doesn't work for everyone but I believe that this will really reduce the use of my MacBook. I still use my MacPro for downloading files and things like that.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint work great on the iPad Pro. The keyboard does help a lot on these type of programs but a touch screen is actually a real plus when creating or editing.

Is the keyboard something you get used to? Trying it in the Apple Store it felt horrible - no real tactility to the keys and it kept feeling like my fingers were slipping off the keys - not sure why they are so small rather than rectangular

You are talking about the iPad Pro Keyboard ?

The keyboard (the apple ipad pro keyboard) combined with the big screen for side-by-side windows on the ipad pro was the thing for me that changed the "iPad" from a consume-media-device to a creative platform.

I had tried to write, spreadsheet, make presentations on my ipad air before but it never felt as easy as using a laptop, it could be done, but as a clear secondhand choice if my laptop wasn´t available. Now having the ipad pro and the keyboard it´s the preferred choice, thats how big of a difference it was for me.

Initially I got the ipad pro because I wanted a bigger screen for streaming HBO and playing games basically but it ended up being my day to day workhorse.

Yes, I easily got used to the keyboard. I have for a long time been using the Logitech keyboard with my iPad 4th Generation and I use an Apple Wireless Keyboard (no 10 key) on my Macbook during the day. My MacPro, I've opted for a Logitech G15 but that is a whole different animal.

What in the world is a dd13? Google is of no help

Did you bring your iPads into the parks? If so, how did you carry them? Last time we were there the wifi and cellular access were spotty at best but that was 3 years ago. Has it gotten better since?

Definetly something you get used to. I am using it right now and love the thing! I did hate it in the store trying it for the first time as well but it's something I've grown to use quite often. The IPP is definitely replacing my MacBook Pro. Selling it tomorrow for over $450, making up the price of the IPP.

The iPads I have in various sizes each has its unique use case. Enjoyable yet most certainly not essential I'm happy to have the experience but I'll most likely never buy another.

Even when they eventually expire, I won't buy replacements since they're merely overpriced gadgets in the overall scheme of things.

Yet that said for people without computers I can see why they like their iPad. It's better than nothing and less expensive than most of Apple's laptops.

I had a mental struggle last year as far as whether or not I even needed an iPad. I sold my Air 1, regretted it after a month, and replaced it with a mini 3 I found for a steal on eBay. I was glad to have an iPad again (and still am), but when I take a step back and look at the grand scheme of things, it's the only Apple device I own that doesn't get used daily. I use my iPhone, Apple Watch, rMBP, both of my Apple TVs, etc. every single day. The iPad sometimes sits in its designated bag for days at a time. It has come full circle--this is why I originally sold my iPad Air to begin with. The difference now is that I learned my lesson. The iPad is probably my least essential device, yet for the times I really need it, I'm VERY glad to have it.

We have no issues with the WiFi at MK and HS. EP has a couple spotty locations. AK needs some work. All of our devices are WiFi plus AT&T cellular so that isn't an issue for us. The only place that I've found cellular to be atrocious is EP in Soarin' queue.
