The iPad has replaced certain functions for me. For a while I was taking the laptop to bed to watch movies - iPad fits the bill much better. I no longer take the laptop if I'm visiting friends - the iPad is good enough there. For couch surfing - it's 50/50.
If I boot into windows on the MBP for gaming, I keep the iPad nearby for communications and browsing.
I took at 2 week trip overseas (vacation) and tried taking only the iPad. That was about 80% successful. Needed to borrow a laptop a couple of times.
I've always been a 13" laptop fan because I like to take it with me. Because of the iPad, however, I went with a 15" this last upgrade. I really wanted it for the graphics card, but the size (and cost) normally would have kept me away. Apple figures out new ways to take my money at every turn.
