Cool, that validates my obsessive curiosity!

FDX28 is in the air right now, shown as having departed Shanghai at 8:46PM. :)

I'm still "Not yet shipped" though. :(

...and it seems there's actually also a Shanghai-Memphis FedEx flight on weekdays, FDX90. It's possible some laptops bound for the East Coast and/or Europe went that way. Its scheduled departure time is 11:22PM Shanghai time, which is about 2 hours ago...except the flight is shown as not having departed yet, so if your tracking info shows it sitting in Shanghai with no activity since the morning, it's likely that flight is just delayed. Flight stats for stuff outside the US/UK area aren't always up-to-date or accurate, though, although they tend to update and correct once en-route or closer to the US. With a 11PM scheduled arrival in Memphis, it could easily arrive 3+ hours late and still make most of the early AM outbounds, which start going out around from MEM around 2:30AM with the bulk after 3AM... (This is again assuming Apple wants you to have your laptops on Saturday, which it seems they don't! But we won't know until one of the damn things goes out for delivery.)

so FINALLY my computer has been moved to prepared for shipment! btw i7 15" with high res glossy. Ordered on the 13th

Tracking status
Apr 16, 2010 11:32 AM- Left FedEx origin facility SHANGHAI CN
Apr 16, 2010 11:03 AM- Picked up SHANGHAI CN
Apr 15, 2010 09:59 PM- Shipment information sent to FedEx

If my calculations are correct, I'm 12 hours behind Shanghai so 4/16/10 11:30am in Shanghai equals 4/15/10 11:30pm in Michigan. According to Flightstats a FedEx flight left Shanghai for Anchorage at 9pm Shanghai time (just a few hours ago) but my tracking status didn't change, so either the pallet with my MBP didn't make it to the jet or is held up in customs, or... best case scenario... is on the jet and just didn't get scanned.

Anyway, my estimated delivery is (as of now) scheduled for Tuesday 4/20/10.

Switched to Prepared for Shipment just a few minutes ago.

For sh*ts and giggles I went to the online US store to reconfigure my CTO to see what the lead time on a custom 15" i7 is. It's as of this writing, up to 5-7 days!

I really hope mine arrives flawless...I'd hate to have to send it back and wait another (few?) weeks to get a replacement.

If this became the case, I think I would ask that either a) the replacement be sent to the store and allow us to exchange it there once it's ready or b) ship the replacement and only once it arrives do we send back the original (haven't they done this before?).

Identical Fedex Track

This is my information. Looks like it is still on track for April 21st.

Ours must be sitting right next to other. My config is identical. FedEx track is identical. Destination is Waterloo,IL

Wow it really has increased to 5-7 days for a CTO but strangely its 24 hours instead of 1-3 for a stock build.

PackageMapping.com

Hey guys, try using packagemapping.com. I think it gives more up to date information, and also shows the trail of your package on Google Maps.

On my UPS tracking page, it doesnt show any new information, but on PackageMapping.com, it shows this:

LOUISVILLE, KY US Apr 16, 2010 10:19 PM IN TRANSIT TO
SHANGHAI, CN Apr 16, 2010 10:18 PM DEPARTURE SCAN
SHANGHAI, CN Apr 16, 2010 9:55 PM UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY / UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY

SHANGHAI, CN Apr 16, 2010 12:06 PM ORIGIN SCAN

I think the timezone they show is MDT

Interesting, so some stuff is shipping UPS; the only UPS flights out of Shanghai I could find are both to Anchorage: the apparently daily UPS81 which your package is probably on (departed 20 minutes after your listed departure scan and still in the air), and UPS85, which seems to operate on an irregular basis, departing Shanghai around 6AM local time. However, both flight #s have a final destination of Louisville, which explains why the tracking info shows it in en route to Louisville; this doesn't actually mean much, and might not even be the same plane for both legs. (So even if your package is bound for Louisville next, it'd likely still come off the plane in Anchorage for the 3 - 4 hour "stop", or at least get scanned in and out of Anchorage.)

I've found that http://trackthepack.com/ lets you see the same info (at least for UPS, not sure if it shows extra info for FedEx.) I think the reason UPS doesn't show you stuff like "In Transit To" on their own tracking is that it's often incorrect/ambiguous as with my example above, though it is still good to have.

Question: are you in the US, or elsewhere (Europe?) Since European folks have mentioned UPS shipping, that might explain things, although it's an awfully long way around to go from China to Europe via the US... But that's the only UPS route I could find, nothing westbound. It'd be helpful if people note where they are and whether or not they're doing a BTO when posting tracking/shipping info and such. :)

Although our machines are slightly different (15", i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD), I have exactly the same tracking info as yours. Our machines must be in the same bundle/palette. I also show delivery on the 20th (to Atlanta, GA). Did you order with standard or expedited shipping?

My theory is the expedited shipping ones went on the FDX90 (direct to Memphis), while standard shipping went on FDX28 (Anchorage).. As other people (who live on the west coast for example) are showing deliveries later than ours but also shipped around the same time as ours.

I got the same exact config as you and i live in LA (Silver Lake). I ordered mine at 11am PST though.

It shipped last night around midnight and delivery estimate is the 20th with expedited shipping. I just got off the phone with customer service and they waived my shipping fee. so now I dont mind waiting.

I think it's more likely to be geographical, as well as based on timing of outbound flights from ANC and MEM, and other minutiae (e.g., some locations that have flights from Memphis but not Anchorage to their nearest hub, or vice versa); the East Coast, the South, and portions of the Midwest might be on the Memphis flight, but even expedited they'd be fine via ANC for Saturday delivery. Even though there's a few hours in Anchorage, those can still get to about anywhere that the Memphis-routed ones can. It's really not much further via Anchorage, which is why it makes such a big cargo hub:

Per the Great Circle Mapper, PVG-ANC-MEM is only 0.4% further than PVG-MEM. And if you're going, say, PVG-ANC-LAX, that's only 2.6% further than PVG-LAX would be directly, but PVG-MEM-LAX is 39.6% further than PVG-LAX. So it wouldn't make sense to send a package to the West Coast via Memphis when it could go via Anchorage.
