Also in Anchorage! Yay!

Mine is only 2 hours behind in transit, but it's not in Anchorage yet. Still 2 Flights scheduled to arrive in ANC tonight.

Both UPS and FedEx had their main European air hubs closed down by the cloud of ash. Shipments that are normally transported by air were being delayed by at least a day, according to UPS spokesman Norman Black.... UPS planned to have workers move packages over the weekend -- a time when they don't usually ship -- to catch up. Within Europe, both FedEx and UPS are moving packages by truck instead of air when possible.

That was taken from Yahoo - it seems they are doing what they can to avoid severe delays from the volcanic ash as you would expect. My own shipping estimate was recently changed to a day earlier than the previous estimate, after having shipped.

I doubt that the PVG-MEM flight is empty: http://fedex.com/cn_english/about/local/servicenews/B777_25Jan10.html
http://memphis.bizjournals.com/memphis/stories/2010/01/11/daily25.html

It seems that 777F is actually carrying some cargo. The 777F can travel 4,900 nautical miles with a full load of cargo and 10,000+ nautical miles empty [page 3: http://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/acaps/777rsec3.pdf].

PVG-MEM is 6,724 nautical miles so I'm guessing it's likely ~80% full.

Interesting data, and interesting that it's so that they can offer later cutoffs in Asia. (Yet my package originating before 1PM somewhere in Shanghai still missed the cutoff, as with many others!) So I guess they are flying cargo on that flight! The graph is a little confusing with the MZFW seemingly lined up with the high cutoff for what seems to be the MTOW...think I need to do a little more research and look at it again. :)

I don't think it'd get 80% just based on reduced cargo weight, due to fuel requirements, probably more like 60 - 75%...however, from that PDF you linked to, the 777F can take up to 3 aux fuel tanks for about a 12% increase; the stated range and capacity seem to be based off no aux tanks. So they're likely flying that with some extra fuel in it, and I could see that getting it to 80%+.

I don't know all that much about freighters, so thanks for the useful links. :)

Well, that's interesting, given that FDX28 isn't landing for another hour.

Could be an early arrival "scan" pushed into the system, but it's also quite possible that it's actually FDX80 NRT-ANC which arrived in Anchorage at 11:49AM local time. (That's from Tokyo-Narita.)

I thought it was interesting too, but I don't think FedEx would ever push in data that wasn't accurate. The tracking info is for their own purposes more than ours, so to mark it as being somewhere before it really is would likely cause them problems. I also agree that if it had gone through another hub there would have been another scan. It's more likely it arrived via another courier's plane in the event the FedEx one was overbooked -- that might explain the double "in transit" scans. In any case, I'm just glad it's there, regardless of what plane/boat/kayak it went on.

Haven't gotten any more scans yet. Will post an updated screenshot once one is made.

The last other PVG-ANC flight to arrive was GWL8768, which was 7.5 hours ago... so I don't think it was FedEx using another carrier. I would doubt FedEx ever using another carrier on routes like this except under extreme circumstances.

I have seen FedEx scans magically change the timestamps after looking at them later...so we'll see when you get a new scan. :)

Weird! Mine is exactly the same except for the Anchorage part. I hate life

Where has my delivery date gone?

UPS updated my shipping status with a 2:50 departure scan from Shanghai but they dropped my deliver date from the tracking page.

I had an original due date of 04/16-23 and it updated to 04/22 but now it is gone.
:(

Ordered the 14th around 2pm pacific time for Vancouver BC Canada.

Seems my package has rested in Kentucky for the day. Anyone with similar tracking? (Im with UPS for a package to Toronto)

Seems mine was about 3 hours behind yours right up to the export scan then mine must have missed a truck to the sorting facility. Now I am a couple of days behind.

What date did they give you for an expected delivery?

Well, here are a few theories (and also keep in mind that the info FedEx shows us is just a subset of what's in their systems, and that also means that things like the same type of scan might not even be as they appear):

1. The "Direct Distribution" stuff requires FedEx to take the master tracking data for each pallet and route its contents, generating routes for each package. They might do this when the plane is nearing Anchorage, and then for some reason posted the "Arrival Scan" as when that data was generated to "separate" the packages within their tracking system.

2. Some sort of customs pre-clearance, before it actually shows. This often does happen in flight for cargo shipments...so that could also be mistakenly shown as an "Arrival Scan."

3. There's a bored FedEx guy on the flight wandering around the cargo area with his barcode scanner randomly scanning things.

...basic point is that the "Arrived at..." doesn't necessarily mean much, other than that it's likely at/near the location.

And personally, I would be furious if they put my package on the wrong kayak!

Mine has just had an export scan from Shanghai. My delivery date has changed to the 20th April. Oh well as long as I fingers crossed get it next week some time.

Long, long time lurker first time poster. I figured I would add my shipping information to the thread. I ordered a 15.4" 2.4 GHz MBP with the high res. glossy display. Shipping details are listed below...I assume my MPB is currently on the flight FDX519 from Memphis to Newark.

Curious where you're shipping to, and if it's expedited or not. There are direct ANC-EWR flights, and a previous poster in Columbia, SC had his MBP go out on one of those. Of course, this could be part of their system to get things where they're going "on time" (e.g., not too early!) thus you being shipped out of the way even if you're near EWR, perhaps both to optimize flight loads and delay at the same time...

My shipment is exactly the same as yours. When is your expected arrival? Did you pay for expedited? I got standard shipping and it still says April 22nd, but hopefully it will come before that (unless they intentionally delay it..)

Anyone know how the package would get to Houston? Via DFW or direct?

Why is the cutoff in Shanghai before 1PM local time? -__- I had expedited shipping and it's looking like 5-6 days.

I'm located in Northern NY. I chose standard shipping, because I read somewhere on macrumors that all CTO products being shipped from China use the same 3-5 day shipping method. My delivery date is listed as April 21 by 4:30, but I am hoping to see an adjusted delivery of the 19th. Normally shipping from NYC to me takes only one day.

Ergh, I've looked up way too many of these such that I know most of this off the top of my head... kinda sad. :)

No flights from ANC to IAH/HOU, nor are there flights from DFW to IAH/HOU. Routing would likely be ANC-MEM-IAH. Or they might just fly it into MEM, or perhaps DFW or another nearby airport, and stick it on a truck for a couple days especially since you're not expedited.

Ordered Expedited delivery, but estimated delivery is Apr 21, 2010 by 10:30 AM...

Looks like mine is on the same flight as yours, what day does FedEx say yours should arrive? Mine says Wed (I am in the Chicago Burbs)

NEVERMIND, I just saw that someone else asked the same question

Decent chance you're actually on FDX957 to ROC, depending on exactly where you are. But there's also the EWR flight you mentioned, plus JFK, IAD, and PHL flights that match up with your departure time. (See KMEM departures.)

Not being expedited, your package may very well just be sitting on a truck up to you now, though. Or get trucked up from IAD or PHL or something...
