Scratches do appear over time because of the dust that can get in between the case and the laptop. My buddy has a clear case so his is kinda scratched. Not sure about satin though.
I had a clear speck case fitted to mine since I bought it a few months ago so my MBP is still mint, the Speck is really scratched so it's definitely doing it's job!
Although decided to remove it as I've just bought a LArobe Black Addict Unibody MacBook Pro 15 Inch - Black + Wasabi.
With the Speck case on it doesn't fit into the sleeve ! Anyway, still got Moshi palm, trackpad and keyboard protectors still on![]()
I say go with wrapsol instead. As long as you don't abuse your macbook, a skin is all you really need to protect it from scratches.
Yup, got a scratch from the case on the bottom of my MBP.
The net result with these cases is the possibility of getting something stuck between the case and the MacBook.. It's not the case causing scratches but the crap getting stuck inbetween.. I've got the black satin version waiting to be fitted when my machine arrives but I've also gone for the Zagg protection as well..
This may all sound OTT but my previous MBP was scratched underneath basically due to dust, small paticles on my laptop tray and desk - the MBP will scratch very easily which is why the Speck case will cause trouble if you manage to get something between the case and the MBP. I'd really looked after the machine well so it was simply caused by moving the machine around on the tray or desk - I'd not noticed anything substantial that would cause the damage so it just shows you..
If hairline scratches annoy you then get something like the Zagg system as well.. Cannot comment on the removing the case causing scrtaches on where the case clips on..
im not sure if ur idea of zagg invisible and speck hardshell would work, it might not fit since theres a small but significant extra layer added on and the hardshell was designed to work with jsut the original dimensions of the macbook pro

Kinda sucks to cover up that cool looking apple but its still a cool case
how did you ever manage a 17"? that's like half your body weight. i'm 5'6" and 150. all muscle![]()
Does the light from the logo not shine through then?
maybe you should get some more muscles, because i've carried around a 17" notebook for all 4years of university. unless you're an asthmatic anemic carrying around 6 pounds in a knapsack isn't going to bother you at all. not to mention i don't have to carry around textbooks because i can have pdf's open and type things out in word because of the high res screen. now that i think about it, the only girl i know in computing (lol) carries around an Alienware laptop that weighs 9 pounds. so if a weakling 105 pound girl can carry around a 17" notebook, i'm sure you can do it too -what with your 150 lb solid steel construction!
i literally laugh directly in the faces of everyone with a 13" MBP with their hilarious 1280x800 resolution. i especially like it when the Facebook chat box takes up half of their screen. then i bonk them on the head with my giant laptop![]()
