Completely agree. I have a 16" MBP M1 and it feels cheap. It's thick. And has sharp edges. It's absurd. How many DECADES can Apple keep the same design. It's just beyond stupid at this point. The same indented tab in the middle front of the base with the razor sharp points, the same basic frame design, the same pretty much everything other than a notch now.
Are you returning it?

In these new macbooks, the weight is near the screen, it makes the on-handed open difficult, and prone to toppling, mishandling, as well as balancing it on uneven surfaces should the need arise.

Nope. Not even once. Look, I am disabled and I’ve had zero problems opening the computer with one hand.

You should just quit while you’re behind.

It was difficult to me and took a few tries compared to the previous iteration.

Well we can agree to disagree? I don't see why a person has to be "behind" because their opinion & experience is different to yours. Is this not a place or forum to express a point of view?

I like the keyboard lighting via control center, plus you can now have the keyboard turn off after so much inactivity. Beats the old approach of two f keys doing it. Also the all black keyboard is easier to replace. Its not the Magic Keyboard with all those crevices around the buttons for dirt to get wedged into or stick to the metal in-between. I don't place that much value trying to scoop up a 16" by one hand, perhaps that is more important for the 14"? Once I have carefully picked it up with both hands, and now carrying it under a shoulder one handed, carrying it between rooms is more pleasant without the sharper edges to content with then my previous one. :)

I was okay with a dynamic keyboard sometimes, and pressing fn was fine with me. But I actually had my touchbar set to the shortcut keys I wanted most of the time (screenshot, expose, brightness). So those remained up for me across all applications. I have to say, I am not so used to control centre yet.

I believe scissor keyboards are just as equally dirt prone than the magic keyboard, if perhaps not more because the lack of membrane. When I used to buy old keyboard replacement parts for pre-butteryfly aka scissor keyboard, honestly some of them were so gross the sellers didn't clean them... crumbs, hair... really wedged in there all over ? Its just the scissor mechanism has the ability to withstand dust & dirt & hairs and all that more than the ultra sensitive low travel butterfly mechanism. Its super unfortunate that they did not do ample testing with the butterfly... the eat a sandwich while typing one week straight test ?

I don't know how an all black keyboard is easier to replace, as I saw the keyboard area is not a separate part (?), but the unibody area of the keyboard is just dyed black, yet the same aluminium finish... One would still need to open the bottom/top case...

Yeah I can agree is the sharper edges were too sharp and prone to dings and dents on the slightest knock. Especially the lid, if one tends to be more mobile (even just around the house). The sharper edges may have added to the a slim look & feel, but I think just the edges should have been rounded off far more. More than just "chamfered", actually radius curved.

At first I wanted to say something sarcastic, but after re-reading the OP I guess everyone has different preferences. I happen to like this new design - both looks and performance - much better than the previous MBP designs.

Speaking of heavier, thicker and squared off, there is something that is even heavier, thicker and more squared off...

(And it's made of paper - but at least it comes with its own case)

Cheap? You've got to be kidding me? This thing is nice and hefty, very well-built, sturdy and not in the least cheap looking or feeling.

Just so everyone knows, the new bodies on the MBP M1s are gorgeous. Exactly perfect. Period. The notch on the other hand ....

I think my new 16 is broken. I can't seem to get the fans to come on.
Do you have something to monitor the fans? I use TG Pro and it shows the core temps and fan speeds (or if they are off.). You can download a trial of the app.

BTW: When mine runs it's fans I can't even hear them. If it wasn't for the app I wouldn't know they were on.

Pretty sure it was humorous sarcasm because the fans on the Intel churned away like a washing machine on fast spin as soon as you asked the computer to do anything remotely taxing.
