This is probably true and has been my experience in the past. They do tend to be conservative and I hope we get before 11/17.
It does seem, however, that corporate looked at bottom line when distributing units to local stores. They wanted to sell to walk in customers knowing they already captured pre-order sales with us. Problem is our pre-orders represent die-hard customers who got up in the middle of the night to get X on launch day. We are still waiting till that 11/17-24 date while our friends enjoy their new, shiny X.
I understand the frustration, I’m feeling it too. But, think about it, any company will prefer walk-in customers over online orders. They are sending clear message: Go to a store and buy it. Enjoy the experience.
They sure hate the long lines outside the stores, but they love walk-in customers. So, this year, the decided to stock up the stores to void the lines.
The minority (us) who don’t have a nearby Apple Store, wait for a under-promised date, and be happy when it arrives 2 weeks before.
It makes sense to me, and if I was leading Apple I would do the same thing.
