Yes, ask to talk to customer service and just explain your situation. I had a really nice, younger kid named Zach who was absolutely amazing. I mean this took less than 15 minutes. So he was very efficient at his job. He said that the Apple higher ups have basically given them free reign to offer a "gesture of goodwill" because they know they messed up big time with the preorders. Please do not be pissed at me if you call up and get nothing, but if you tell them your true story of how everything got messed up and you are mad that it happened you may get something. I kind of had some "backup" because he saw my notes from last year from my iPhone 7 Plus incident and read them and was like wow, you went through a lot last year, lets get this fixed. He saw I already bought a case, so he did not ask me if I wanted a case...he asked if I wanted a charging pad, some other accessories, and I was like how about AirPods and he said let me see what my computer says and that is when he said he could only give a "gesture of goodwill" for $150.00, and I would have to pay the remaining $9.00 and I was like DEAL!

FYI: Also, just for reference...they are not allowed to give gift cards. I am not doubting that some people who got gift cards did, maybe they spoke to an Apple Senior Advisor who CAN give gift cards, but Tier 1 normal Apple Advisors cannot give them.

:apple:

This. I was really nice and respectful, but made them understand my concerns. I was offered a gift card yesterday but was told that’s not possible. I was given AirPods instead which was more than I was expecting. Jennifer was awesome and if other Apple reps are like her, it’s no wonder people love Apple’s customer service

I mean if it makes you feel better. I run a YouTube channel and I’m the one that should be upset about it and I actually made a video about my preorder fail but is it the end of the day no, will I get my phone, yes just not when everyone else is and I’m ok with that. But I guess some folks must have a phone release day. I understand the hype and excitement but sheesh come on people.
I like this tech person....it’s not end of the world...

Actually the ones getting it on the 3rd are a minority. Most people will be getting it weeks later. There are always a few of the lucky ones acting all smug and criticizing the others who dare to complain.

It seems like it's pretty fairly well spread. I know quite a few people getting them the 3rd. It's about 50% of my friend group getting them the 3rd with the other 50% spread out the next 2-3 weeks. (these are IRL friends btw)

I don’t see how. After the first 10 minutes of preordering the date had already slipped several weeks. Do you really think more people got their orders in during those 10 minutes than in the hours or days after?

Here is a good review of the iPhone X. Those of us in here will be watching and reading tons of reviews until we get our iPhone X's, haha. This guy was the first to review the original iPhone though. Good read:

He is wrong since the damn App did not even come online until 3:10 EST for me, and I have seen other people say 10 after, 11 after, 12 after etc. The times had begun to slip by then, I got two quick chances at an 11/3 and they glitched out, and the third time it said it would deliver 11/3 when I put it in my cart, buy the time I checked out it was to where we are now...11/17-11/24.

Been checking mine but still in 17-24 boat. I bet I see change around the 3rd and maybe it'll bump up to 10-17. I'm definitely not calling them to complain. Yeah, it sucks that I couldn't get in until :10, but oh well.

I think they do all of this on purpose. They claim to underestimate the demand, and also claim ‘production problems’ and then fail to put in enough server capacity do deal with the volume. It happens every year. If Apple really wanted to do something about it they could.

Well, I just called Apple and talked to a Apple Advisor (Tier 1, not even a Senior Advisor) and got a pair of AirPods essentially free. They could only offer me a "goodwill gesture" of $150.00 and the AirPods are $159.00, so I had to pay the $9.00 difference plus tax, and my order includes 2 day shipping so it is saying on my account that I will get them 11/2. I will take AirPods for the mess I went through this year plus the absolute hell I went through last year. Entitled was the wrong word, I admit that. I should have said whatever Apple can do to alleviate or make the situation better. One thing, as a grown man I know is that in this world you are ENTITLED TO NOTHING! Good Frank Underwood quote, haha...but still true.

hey man can you share more about your experience? I got a reservation number but never got any email, so I am wondering if I am eligible for anything.

Have you checked on your reservation? The email they sent has a link to check. You don’t want to miss a communication or your reservation will be cancelled.

Like I said in my post, call...tell them your story which yours sounds like a big issue if you got the message saying you would get an email for the reservation and it never showed. Just tell them that you find this unacceptable for Apple that has such high standards. I guess be genuine, and do not beg for stuff. Like I said, they pretty much have the green light to give you a "gesture of goodwill." Good luck bro!

Here are my results from my ongoing conversation with Apple.

Yesterday, I spoke via chat to a representative who was very understanding but expressed that there was nothing that she could do via chat. She did encourage me to continue checking the status as the date has a "good chance" of changing.

Today, I got on the phone and re-expressed my frustration. Pretty much stating that a dedicated customer should be reciprocated with a dedicated customer. Phone representative forwarded me to another specialist who tried to appease the situation by saying that her own phone was delayed until Dec, 6th. I told her that was completely unacceptable and she herself should be angry at a company that is willing to use such an excuse and expecting it to satisfy its customers.
She provided me with a Complimentary Mophie Charging Base.

Doesn't change the fact that I'm still a little upset at this since I have been using a 5S that is now in awful condition for almost 4 years now and I have been obviously excited to receive the phone. However, I do understand that it is a difficult position and I am not one to shoot the messenger. It is a phone after all.

Do you think it would also work in Poland? The only way to contact apple here is to call their Polish number, I guess the USA service won't help.

Are people actually complaining to customer service that their order isn't coming on Friday? I really don't get this... it'll come when it comes... Leave the poor customer service people alone. I'm in the 17-24 crowd and fully expect it to come in the 10-17 group as their orders largely seem to have moved up a week or two.

Yes I want my phone to be 11/3. I deserve justice on why they bumped me back to 11/17-24 from my original 11/3. I will not stop until I get resolution.

Sorry, until I see in my "Orders" section on Apples website that my iPhone X has been moved to a earlier group, you say 11/10-11/17...I just do not believe it as Apple has bungled this launch so badly. Preorders start at 12:01 PST/3:01 EST...yeah, that did not happen. The app did not work correctly for a major majority of people, and the people that did the pre preorder that were on the IUP got completely screwed, so did people with AT&T (me) who could not get past the stupid AT&T questions which since I bought my phone outright I should not have even had to enter my AT&T credentials. So until I actually see Apple do something right with this, I just cannot sit back and be happy. I know it is just a phone, I can wait, but it is the principle of it.

Plenty of people got in just fine, plenty of people ordered before you and the verification questions are to prevent people from buying up phones and just reselling them. The things people complained about years ago on these forums when we had pages and pages about chinese resellers cutting off the supply for the 'real' buyers. So yeah leave the customer service people alone.

How many hours are you spending in these chats? on the phone? take those hours, save yourself the stress and put those hours into waiting in a line on Friday if you really want a phone by Friday. Otherwise just wait for it to show up. They haven't charged you any money up to this point.

I’m thinking it must’ve been something to do with the servers for the app only letting in so many users at a time. That’s the only explanation I can think of for how some got 11/3 ship dates using the app and others got 2-3 weeks.

I had the model and color I wanted favourited beforehand and Apple Pay set up with my card, shipping and billing info all up to date. Did a test order days before to make sure it was working properly. I was opening and force closing the app like mad starting at 11:59pm Pacific. Everytime it just kept showing the “we will be back soon” message until around 12:07-12:08. I was able to checkout and pay within 10 seconds once it finally came up. Just got unlucky with the servers I guess. Luck of the draw I chalk it up to

My main issue is the varying experiences that were had throughout the launch. Even if I was able to get the phone on the 3rd I would still understand the frustration (although first-world problems as they maybe).

I was up and dedicated like everyone at 2:00 CT/12 PST, the inability for me to log in on either the app or website til 3:08 is a glitch and error on Apple's fault. Not only that, once I was in and cleared my order by 3:10, there were many who reported to receive 11/3 dates even after me.

These conversations that were had with customer service take no longer than 15 minutes and I believe that there should be some compensation even if it is merely an acknowledgement.

Customer service is paid and earns their salary to do just that. They are there to assist the service of its customers. If I am a dedicated individual looking to make a purchase of $1,000, I expect dedicated customer service.

I don't think that a complimentary item that is worth less than 10% of my original purchase is inconveniencing anyone. It does go a long way for me and it lets me know that my voice is being heard.

The people getting them the third after you, likely chose a different carrier, size etc or they took the time to pick up in store and went through the list of stores to find one with availability. The store availability for pickup lasted longer than shipping because people weren’t checking it.

I understand this. It doesn't change the fact that if the website opened when it did for a lot of other people across the country. I would have had a chance to at least secure the date. The app and website were down for almost 10 minutes, inherently placing me in a 11/17 category.

People got out better or worse. I'm just pleading my case.

Like I said prior, it's just a phone after all. I have no real problem waiting for it. I just wanted my frustrations to be heard as I'm sure everyone does.

Nah not really but I appreciate that thread for those updates in case anyone’s order timelines move up. It’s a bit presumptuous to assume that everyones frustrations wish to be heard. I’m sure you didn’t mean the hyperbole though.
