The iMac itself is way too iconic for Apple. iMac is not dead. ?

Personally, I think the next time we will see an update on an iMac will be next year how many of the analysts suggested and of course, it will carry the M Apple Silicon Chip. However, The screen size needs to get bigger.

I would like Apple to please introduce Space Gray iMac. It will be an instant buy. ⚫️
"Way too iconic"? The iPod is no less iconic, and Apple is down to one of those. And who knows for how long?

No way we won't see another larger iMac. It was hands down my favorite Apple product. It was the perfect mix of performance, beauty and minimalism.

I understand but I just went to Apple site and a base Mac mini plus base Mac studio are 2300 dollars. Not too bad a price. I think that Apple is showing how much a new 27’ iMac would be in today’s expensive world by selling the Studio Display (which looks a lot like an updated iMac to me and it looked enough like an updated iMac to some of the people that make a living in the Apple rumor mill to fool them as well) by selling this display for 1500 dollars. It is essentially the same display with upgraded mic, speakers, camera.
EXACTLY! if you want a great new 27" imac, buy the mini with the studio monitor starting at 2300.

it's basically the same thing.

but if you want a new imac PRO you can buy the mac studio and the studio display starting at 3600.

and there are still 'good', 'better', 'best' models of each and CTO.

and let's face it... with the thermals of the m1 ultra, apple would never be able to fit it into an all-in-one anyway

I can’t think of any disadvantages. It was apples best value computer and most designers used it. I doubt I can convince my boss to fork over $1600 for a monitor alone . It’s not like this studio thing is expandable. It’s just a big lump on the desk
No, there are many disadvantages. The iMac 27" was only "attractive" for many because Apple did not offer anything else. So you can force people who want to use macOS to use the iMac. Simply offer nothing else or make the rest so unattractive that only the iMac remains in the desktop sector.

Have you ever thought about people like me who have to work with multiple computers? They can't use the iMac display. And if the computer is outdated or has a defect, then you can dispose of the entire iMac. This is not an environmentally friendly product. If Apple wants to pay attention to environmental protection, then there is no place for such a product.

The iMac display is bad from an ergonomic point of view. It reflects. And the display is not height adjustable. And you get a monitor forced on you. Depending on the specific purpose, there are much better monitors.
The cooling is also bad and gets loud. Even the current iMac M1 has worse cooling than a Mac mini because that has to go into such a thin case (and in the small version has only one fan).

This is much better when computer and monitor is separate and you don't have to buy an Apple display (which again has only one input port for one computer) but you can.

For now, absolutely.

If Apple intends to release an all-in-one again, a larger one, it will be a while before we see it.

Frankly I'm thrilled. While the prices and configurations are absolutely ridiculous and unconscionable on the Studio Display, at least it is a separate unit that can be put on a desk, and have any kind of Mac hooked up to it down the road. Having to sell/trade/repair a large iMac is impossibly difficult. I never chose an all in one on purpose. I was only choosing Apple's best display.

It's obviously still coming. People who think otherwise are completely out of touch. That 27-inch segment is way too big on both sides of the PC and Mac market to ignore.

The might give the 24" a bit more power in the next gen which might win over more previous 27" costumers.
24" and 27" seems a bit to close for me and going beyond 27" will make the big iMac more of a niche product.

iMacs weren't supposed to be part of the "Pro" segment and IMO it never made that much sense as all the variants of "Pros" will have different emphasis on different parts of the HW.
Some need lots of compute but could easily live with a basic screen, while other would pair the M1 Mini with the ProDisplayXDR.

I hope the end of the big all-in-one Macs is sealed. It's such a pointless form factor. Monitor and computer in one case is also bad for the environment.
Many disadvantages. And hardly any advantages (in my case, not a single advantage; I've never bought an iMac).

What's important is that Apple finally offers desktop Macs (beside Mac mini) without a forced monitor. Hopefully there will be a also better Mac mini.

Of course Apple should do all they can to reduce environmental impact of any design but I love how no one considers laptops, the vast majority of computers sold, as AIOs.

I've had many iMacs and the reduced cable clutter and sleek design are features to me and many others. I've edited a number of short films on my iMacs, the latest shot in 4K, so I'm in the prosumer segment that needs decent power but definitely not a Mac Pro. Plus the recent 5K iMacs provided one of the most cost-effective ways to get an amazing 5K display.

I'm very happy the Studio exists, it's about time. I've been here for 20 years, with the xMac rumors, lol.

But I still see room for two iMacs.

If there will be no additional iMac then why in the world does this still say iMac 24"? When the 24" is removed, then I will believe there will be only one iMac.

More importantly, this whole integrated desktop form factor is what Apple does best. No one else can make an 11.5mm thin high performance computer.
I sure hope you are right! Waiting waiting waiting...

A maxed out Ultra w 1TB and the monitor was $8K. I am much happier spending that then $5K for a 27” glorified laptop on a stick.

Actually, its the quality of the display that mattered. So, if the new studio provides what is needed then why should a 27+" iMAC exist? I mean, iMAC is a PIA to repair.

Of course you can dont be daft... they are just every so slightly smaller than they would be on the 27inch. Theres only 3 inches in it and you'd be surprised how little difference that makes.

In conjunction with this why not try to use multiple desktops too - you can spread apps across desktops and it works very well.

The only 24 inch iMac I’ve used is a 2017 and the resolution does not let you put two windows side-by-side. Maybe they fixed this in more recent releases, but I can only imagine the font is pretty small, I doubt it comes with a magnify glass.

I run two 27” monitors off a MacBook Pro for my setup (wish I went 32”), but I’ll need to replace the 27 inch for the kids 24” is just too small, especially for the price tag. It might work for doctors offices but underwhelming for a dedicated home location. On a positive note, the Mini will keep extra heat away from the monitor. This was the culprit of my 2009 i7 iMac.

The Studio setup is twice the price. What are Apple offering people looking for the lower end (but still great) performance but with a larger screen, ie the people who bought 27” iMacs in the past?
M1 Mac mini with Mac Studio Display.

I just wish Apple takes a page out of Microsoft 28" AIO implementation and make the monitor 3:2. As a retina 5k iMac owner....after playing with the Surface I immediately was like "touche MicroSoft.... Apple needs to do this". A 28" 3:2 monitor is lot more screen than a 27" 16:9.

At the very least Apple should make it 16:10 like their Macbook Pros.

I think with the release of the Mac Studio, the larger iMac is officially dead. :( The 24" iMac will live on, bolstered by the upcoming M2 SoC (and possibly the M2 Pro version, too).

I still enjoy using my 2017 5k iMac. It’s easy to set up and takes up less space on my desk. The screen is gorgeous and great for zoom calls and working on spreadsheets. It made working from home for me so much better during the last two years.
same machine for me and love it. for that reason was hoping for a new 27"er. I don't understand why they killed the option. I paid around $3K for this one with 3TB fusion drive and 64GB memory. To get something comparable (I know, it's 5 years later and things are diff but it's essentially similar for what was avail then and now) to get a Mac studio now with 4TB (can't get 3TB, has to be 2 or 4TB SSD), 64GB memory, and the 27" monitor it's more than $5K.

the 24" iMac and the Mac mini with this new monitor can't match what I have now from a near-similar replacement. so there seems to be a gap in their consumer versions for desktops that's unfortunate. had in mind around $3K to replace this one, but now have to go with a 24" iMac that maxes out at 2TB SSD (annoying because I want to be able to just keep my files internal with an external backup) for $2400 or go with the base model Mac studio that even if not bumping up memory, the 4TB SSD + monitor = around $4700.
