This is why I put all my phones/tablets in a case. I don't care how careful you are and that you've never dropped a device because you take good care of your stuff...it's gonna happen.

I dropped mine...first day. Well actually a neighbors kid 12 y/o dropped it from about 4 feet on carpet. She was handing it to me.

I didn't lose it but I wanted too.

I had the case but it wasn't on it at the time.

So I don't even take my phone to their house anymore.

I dropped it onto the street. It fell out of my pocket when I got out of the car. Thankfully, I've got a case and the screen didn't crack!

The corner of the case and the aluminum on the bottom did get scuffed.

ouch... case FTW

Dropped my 6 space grey getting out of the car. Phone was sitting in my lap and slid face first a few feet. Top right corner is shattered slightly cracked above the front camera & slightly cracked top left corner. $130 to replace & Apple store is booked til Thursday #

Dam man the putting the phone on your lap thing always gets people, its a terrible habit, the other week I seen my brother get up after having the phone on his lap in the car to get out the car, his 5S fell face flat on the floor and just popped and cracked lol smh.

----------

Dropped my iphone 6, landed face down on concrete from a distance of less than two feet. Was in a Spidgeon aluminum fit case.

With AT&T insurance, it will cost $99 to replace, and my claim has been approved. No word on when replacement will ship. This is what the damage looks like...

That's how my wife dropped my $700 digital camera a day or two after I bought it. She had it on her lap in the car and then forgot about it. Bam, straight on the concrete. It actually didn't break, but it did get a little scuffed up. It did malfunction after a few months, and I'm not sure what the cause was. Luckily my insurance covered it. I have a feeling the manufacturer would have seen the scuffs and said I voided the warranty.

Dropped it last night getting into my car after grabbing a pizza. Slipped out of my pocket, hit the doorsill of the car then fell about 6 inches from the doorsill to the asphalt, essentially face first I think. In an Apple leather case. Not a scratch on the phone or case thankfully . (I should hope not from such a short fall)

Dropped it at the state fair the other day. It was in the front pocket of my shirt. Bent over to tie my shoes and it fell out. I suspected it was going to happen, but didn't have a better place to put it at the time. Only fell a foot or so and it was in a case (and I also have it covered in a skin). Case got a tiny little mark and that's about it. Screen is fine. Dropped it on the carpet, too, from about 3 feet. No issues.

why do people so fixated on getting a case?

When you pay 1000 dollars for a phone (a portable device), it shouldn't break that easily.

Do you buy a case for your Walkman? or your watch?

I don't wear a watch and I last used a Walkman in 1987.

My $1000 portable device has a $40 case on it that protects from drops up to 6 ft because a drop from 6 ft without a case onto a concrete surface like my workplace would at least gouge the sides of the phone and most likely shatter the screen.

What iPhone doesn't shatter? I just saw a iPhone 1-6 drop test on Youtube and every single one of them with the exception of the 3GS shattered on impact.

$40 doesn't break my bank... I could give a rat's ass how beautiful the phone is. Nobody else cares about my phone so I see no point in trying to impress you by running around without a case.

It's an amazing excuse I've seen on these very forums... "I don't use a case because the phone is beautiful!"

Really?

Not yet **knocks on wood.

I do use Apple's silicone case. But not sure how much protection it provides. My main intention of the case is to avoid dings and scratches.

Here you go...debating whether to get it fixed now or wait it out for another drop.

That case looks to have a pretty decent 'bumper' surprised it would still crack the screen, did it call on the corner, flat on front or back?

why not fix it now while the credit card might still cover it

I let me cousin see my 6 the first day I got it. It was in an Apple leather case and it still slipped out of her hand like a Frisbee for a good 6 feet. It landed flat on it's back and slid a bit but wasn't damaged.

Why, do credit cards cover this? I purchased with Amex.

It fell flat on the face.

Inquire with Amex. A lot of credit card companies have perks such as 30/60/90 accidental damage coverage for purchases. I've heard a lot of people referencing Amex in these types of threads so look into it.

Apple replaced my iPhone 6 for free with no apple care after I cracked my screen. Thank god. I did not want to pay $130.

Dropped my 6+ in my car from my hoodie pocket onto the handbrake.

Hit the corner of the handbrake with a loud crack, but the Spigen Neo Hybrid and leather on the brake saved it from any damage.

The + is too long for jacket pockets, it WILL fall out!

1990 called and wants its analogy back. lol. :D

Fell on my MacBook when I was laying down typing on it
