So with all these threads about freezing(mine has), dents, screen color issues, etc, I really wanted to get an idea for how many new i5/i7 MBP owners are having some type of problem with their machine.

Perhaps these rev A's aren't doing so well
Let's not forget that it's the very nature of people with problems to complain. Their is a certain "lure" for many people to be negative and pick apart a great machine. Then we must take into consideration, like every other laptop, these are mass produced. So there are bound to be a few with issues here and there. If not there would be no such thing as a warranty and service centers.

I have a 15" Core i7 (signature below) that I've been pushing hard, as I do 3D Aerospace Design. I use all the resources and thus far it's been great. In addition I have no reason to suspect problems as I have had several new Apple PowerBooks / MacBook Pros over the years. Are they perfect? No. Are they excellent, Yes!

Finally lets not forget the people that are _not_ having problems in many cases do not frequent forums. Thus we have no idea what the actual ratio is between good and problem machines.

Physically, my MBP is perfect. No dents/dings/stuck pixels, etc.

Software wise, I have experienced two problems:
1. A random spinning ball of death when I was first messing around with Snow Leopard that required a reboot

2. Several random freezes in Boot Camp, but I upgraded the video driver and haven't had any freezes since. Time will tell if that actually fixed the problem or if it just hasn't happened again yet.

Otherwise, I am very pleased with my first Mac product. I'm sure I'll be even happier when I learn my way around OS X.

The majority of people will get perfect machines, you will not hear these people. The small number of those with problems will be vocal about it. So just because you hear a vocal few doesn't mean the vast majority of machines are faulty.

Spot on. Selection bias.

Bought my first mac book pro on the very first day it was released. I LOVE IT!!!:apple: No complaints so far and I guess (and I hope) no complaints in the next few years.

- As I said, I need an Apple. I'm Apple developer. The pitty of all, it's the 2010 problematic. Take a look at the forum. It's not just one or two post bout problems. And look on desktop forum too. You'll see.

So what you're saying is, you're developing for the wrong platform? :)

- About "wishing others to have issues...", read again please. I said "I really hope that you don't come back here again with another "kind of answer"...".

Which is usually passive-agressive-speak for "I'm having a problems and therefore the world isn't right until everyone else does, too."

edit:

Oh! And eventually, I'm pretty sure that we'll have to create a new poll, to get new results from same posters. Fresh update on data, will be needed.

In other words: since the poll shows a majority of users not having a problems, let's throw out the data until ONLY people with problems take part so we have what appears to be a majority.

But wouldn't that be more convenient for his poll?!? Hah...

No problems here, other than I can never remember which better touch tool shortcuts I assigned for what. I'll get it eventually! :D

The biggest problem I've had so far is with one of my USB ports. The front one on my 15" MBP wouldn't charge my iPhone. Took it to the Apple store and they reset the PRAM and SMC and that seems to have fixed the issue though. Now it seems like it's coming back, but it only does it with certain cables.

i7 MBP Freeze as well

Hey all,

my mpb does the freeze thing as well, just done a fresh reinstall and it froze during setting up the username as password :(

My first mac, i love it even with this issue, but just want it fixed along with everyone else. OSX is so easy to use, gone back to my dell for the time being and to be frank, now I have had a taste of osx I find windows clunky.

I am currently away with work but plan to go to a genius bar to get apple to take a look, but that will not be for another week

Just wondered if anyone with this issue has been in to a genius bar yet and if so what happened ???

Cheers

It was all fine until last night.

I was playing Battlefield bad company 2 using windows xp on boot camp. Suddenly the colors on the screen got all messed up. Blues, purples, yellows, greens... a mess. The computer was running hot after 4hours of playing. I changed servers to see if it would get better and for some reason it did but every time I'd enter a vehicle and the camera changes, it seems like a tint was put on the top of the screen and everything would go green or black, depending on the vehicle... very weird...

I'll try to test it again, I was the first time it happened. Yesterday was the 14th day I have it. (coincidence?)

Any suggestions?

This sounds like it may be heat related. Probably the GPU overheated, considering you've played for 4 hours. Did it ever happen again?

Eventually, all this 95 "pure perfection" machiners, are going to come here again, wanting to vote for all the "other bars".

So OP, when you realize that a lot of first voters start to change their minds, go for it and create new thread.

It's good that people comming to MacRumors forums for the first time, get REAL FRESH information and data, from a single look into a poll.

because you have issues we ALL have to have issues? I still have none.

For the record, I changed out my hard drive and put in another hitatchi, and the HDD drive that came wiht it I put into a windows machine and that works fine as well with Windows 7

Man, someone shoot me the same question days before, and now he have his own "evidence". Think what you want.
Oh and of course, I really hope not! But it's a matter of time (hours/days) that Apple pronounces...

Frocco:

http://developer.apple.com/

here you have everything you need.
"Replay" the first iphone application tutorial, and do a constant look at the "How to's".
And of course, when you start to "roll", search particular things on google. :)

Take time to learn a lot of Obj-C, cause It's EVERYTHING.

I saw MBHockey, but I still have no issues

Look, it's pretty easy. And in fact, its absolutly TRIVIAL.
When you get about 5 or 10 machines, with the exact same problem reported, it's not about statistics anymore, it simply becomes EVIDENCE.

For sure, there could be an isolated line of machines with this problem, and "that's all".

But when we're starting to talk about A LOT of machines with the same problem. Doubt dissappears.

I'm gonna repeat it again: I really hope, that all of you without problems, still like this. Cause this gives weight to the first point (isolated thread). And gives hope to all the "affecteds".

But it's always the same old story through this years in technological world: general problem that soon Apple (in this case) will take care of.
And GENERAL means, all.

Soon or late, you will have your first freeze. Like it or not.
I know it's hard to think about, and I know that probably you're praying to avoid this to happen. But as I said, it's to much people with the same problem, and this only means one thing: GENERAL PROBLEM. This is it. Nothing more.

Probably Apple will solve it, and everyone will get their machines replaced or repaired or updated and voilà!, "happy-blinded-people" we will be again.

Don't forget something: we all have the same machines.
This brings me memories about PlayStation 3 days, on wich some people said "mine have no jaggies man! probably it's yours that it's bad...".
Of course time, changed people minds. And that's it, here we go again.

look at the votes here over 100 for perfect and under 30 (unless you add the 2 bottom choices together) for major issues. Maybe there was a line that had an issue and the people reporting the issue came from that line. I was working with my machine today and in xcode I got nothing but results.
