Speaking of Covid19, deemed essential industry just got very real & personal for me. Despite being very cautious &
Puting all recommended precautions in place, we just had our first direct contact & potential spread of Covid19. We just shut down & everyone is in paid leave holding pattern as our facility is sanitized hoping to fire back up on Monday. The team including myself are about to go get swabbed up the nose to see if albeit limited exposure was fruitful for the virus.

The very best of luck.

Hahaha, I was at the grocery yesterday, standing in front the beer (yes, I having a little moment), a person coughed behind me, I must've spun around like a crazy person - this woman kind of lets out an "Oh!", then starts explaining about she's just kind a little allergy type thing _and_ she was wearing a mask. I kind of laughed and said, "Sorry, I'm just a little reactive, there's always plenty of <some_expletive> not wearing masks".

Note: this was in earshot of a <some_expletive> not wearing a mask :D

I will say one “adjustment” is that you can use corona as an excuse lol. I had another friend of mine want to hangout this weekend but I already have a lot of big plans for the 4th. Plus, I don’t really plan on ever hanging out with this person even if I didn’t have plans (not to be harsh but hey it is what it is). That being said, I told them that I wasn’t doing anything because of the surge in corona cases.

I get a STRONG sense she didn’t buy it because nobody quarantines anymore, but at least it’s a good enough excuse where it’d be rude to question it, so she just kind of disappointingly accepted it and that’s it.

I couldn’t have told her I already have dinner plans with my girlfriend, party plans at the bar with my other friends, bbq with family, obviously bc that would have been rude.

I would have had to make something up like “I’m out of town on business” or some crap which is a much worse excuse especially since no ones working on the 4th

The irony of continously playing down coronavirus online, but finding it a suitable excuse to lie to people.

Well hopefully she believes it. I just found out via snap she’s flown down to Miami to celebrate there for the weekend. I know some of her sorority sisters live there so I’m guessing she’s gonna party it up with them.

I get a sense she didn’t buy my excuse lol

Couldn’t agree more. But common sense does seem to be in short supply with some people.
I’d not be getting on a plane for anyone right now.

It’s hard to believe there’s still people in quarantine judging from what’s happening on the ground, unless people are just claiming to be staying at home bc they think it makes them look “smart,” when in reality they are going out just like everyone else 🤷‍♂️

Americans are traveling and planes are packed from what I’ve seen. Airlines are allowing their planes to be at 100% capacity and not all airlines require masks

I'm sure you are right. That's why the US didn't make the list of countries it's safe to travel to the U.K. Government released today. Must be quite worrying knowing there are 50 countries deemed safer by another government.

I doubt Americans are worried or even know about that list (or care)

Also not for the first time I've noticed you have not seen the news in your country.

It's pretty clear for anyone to read what is really going on. Sad.

No I'm sure it doesn't matter that people can visit 50 other countries to spend their holiday money rather than the US.

I just hope things improve over there soon. Such a shame a small minority don't really understand what's going on.

This evening, July 3rd, The Washington Post had a headline and article spelling out the current COVID-19 situation in the US:

(Excerpted)

The United States tallied its largest single-day total of coronavirus infections Friday since the start of the pandemic, 57,497 confirmed cases...

Friday’s record, which comes a day after a peak of 55,220, is the seventh reported high in nine days. With the rate of new coronavirus cases rising in nearly 40 states, Fourth of July celebrations across the United States have been canceled or scaled back as anxious governors and mayors urge people to take a more restrained approach to the holiday.

Heading into the holiday weekend, at least 20 states set record highs for the average of new cases over seven days, with Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina tallying the highest number of infections.

Florida leads the nation with 9,488 new reported cases Friday — the 26th consecutive day it has set a record in its seven-day average. Meanwhile, scientists warn of a new coronavirus mutation, which doesn’t appear to make people sicker, but there’s concern it has made the virus more contagious.....

There are definitely those who can find a lot of things hard to believe. The reality still remains what it is nevertheless.

And while there might certainly be plenty doing something or ignoring something (consciously or not), that in no way says anything about that being right or good in the overall sense. History is unfortunately full of repetitions of this nature.

Seriously, what virus? The whole country is out and about and has forgotten about it, it seems
nobody quarantines anymore,

You're kidding, right? My boarder just returned from home to resume his Phd studies. Before he can resume his research on campus he has to quarantine for 14 days. Evidently there are testing tents all over campus. Haven't seen them as I, and everyone I know, is still staying at home. Annoying to have to wear a mask at home, but staying at home won't give protection when others in the household are interacting with the outside world.

Edited. Quarantines are expanding:

Staying at home and taking sensible and prudent precautions when 130,000 US citizens have already died from this condition is not something people choose to do to "make them look smart", rather, it is something they choose to do because they actually are smart, and are also considerate of others.

Couldn't agree with this more. Fortunately most people I come across share a similar view.

Yeah, it's been bad. We're running 55% of our normal domestic schedule for July. 20% of our international.
And yet because some see a few full flights, they assume everything is running as normal. No airline in the world is running a full schedule.

I've read stories from airlines that it could be as late as 2023 or maybe even 2025 before we see a full flight recovery. For the ones that survive that is.

Makes complete sense that the effect of reduced flights would be fuller, packed cabins.

Good to know the cattle car mentality is alive and well:D

This is perfectly idiotic - and utterly irresponsible - because there is no better environment for the transmission of airborne infection that the enclosed steel tube, complete with recycled air - of an aeroplane, especially one that is packed for reasons of cold, calculated, profit.

Long before Covid-19 ever made an unwelcome appearance, planes were positive petri-dishes for the effortless facilitation of airborne infection; colds, flus, sinus infections, especially on full airlines, were a regular hazard, one that required precautions even before the arrival of the pandemic on our shores.

Americans who claim to stay at home are probably going out the most just like everyone else
