Haha! That was good for a laugh.

Indeed it is since

1. Nexus S was made by Samsung
2. Open? This is the same company that wouldn't release honeycomb source code because they're afraid that it may make it onto cell phones via custom rom

I have had an iPhone since the 2g and upgraded every year. I also have a htc desire hd which I do like but and it's a big but.... He os isn't fluid!

I use mobile me which the desire don't play with fully. It adds extra folders for sent and trashed messages and it won't push so a fetch schedule has to be set up. But wait I can buy a mail app for £6.99 (about $10) that will solve that... No mr google I don't want to use gmail! What do you mean I have to?

Seriously for me a phone needs to work out of the box and not have a backwards approach to simple tasks!

Yes, and I've always come back. iOS is the most polished operating system and doesn't frustrate me like the other OSs do.

iOS vs Android

Have been on Verizon for over ten years now and didn't want to make the switch to the iPhone when it came out on at&t because of the horror stories of reception and dropped calls etc. So I had to do with android for a while.

Started out with a HTC droid eris...this phone was terrible! The droid experience on it was laggy at best. There were countless times I wanted to throw it up against the wall as it would take, no exaggeration, a minute for the dialer to sometimes actually dial a call. Needless to say, I needed to upgrade and did so to the Samsung fascinate. Great phone. 4 inch super amoled screen was gorgeous. 1ghz processor ran very nicely most of the time. Had android 2.2 (froyo) on it. Overall an awesome experience. Still as many people have expressed on here the android os still has its hiccups and does not seem nearly as polished as iOS. Well just this past week I needed to use my final New every 2 credit on Verizon and have always wanted to own the iPhone so I took the plunge (even though I was a bit leery to leave android)...well alittle less than a week later...I have come to the conclusion I'm not looking back. iPhone 4 is just the best looking phone hands down. It has every feature I could want in a phone right now i.e. front facing camera, amazing display, great processor and so on. Although I do think they need to revamp iOS a bit and no doubt that's coming soon it's still the best user experience around. Like all other apple products, it just works and works well right of the box. Its amazing. Also going from android to iOS was practically seamless.

So here's what I would say to someone if they are trying to decide which way to go. Android is a lot more open. You can really customize your phone to do and look however you want it to. It is nice. If you're pretty tech savvy android is awesome but for the average user I think it's a bit too much. And this is where iOS shines. As I said before, it just works. It's so great. Like not one app has crashed on me yet. Literally, its a daily occurrence on android and it's annoying. Basically if you don't know what you're doing you're not really going to get the most out of the android experience anyway, all the while sacrificing stability and battery life. Two things that I think people underestimate way too much when buying a phone. Cause after all, you can have a 4G LTE 1.2 ghz dual core 4.3 inch android beast but if it only works for three hours at a time and crashes all the time specs don't really matter. Anyway, that's my two pennies.

HaHa! Way too many phones before this ->> Had the iPhone when it first came out on ATT. Got rid of that and got the Nokia E-71. Moved to verizon and got the Eris (biggest pos eva). Sold that and got the HTC Incredible. Sold that and got the DX. Sold that and got the Fascinate. Kept that and bought a new iPhone 4 off Craigslist.

The iPhone is soo much better on vzw. Android is too fragmented. Apps are just ok. Much better on the iOS. Battery life way better than android.

The problem I have is that there are too many Ui's on android and some of them suck. They make the phone laggy, battery hogs and just not a pleasant experience. Blur, TouchWiz, Sense. And, they are the sole reason why updates take forever.

Now, if the Nexus S was available on vzw (and not made by samsung, because they are the worst), I might go that way. I'm not buying anymore phones (android) that have a UI overlay.

Newsflash for you. Nexus S is made by samsung same as Nexus One was made by HTC. I don't know why everyone thinks it's made by google. Google does not make hardware.

Also do you even know what it means by fragmentation? How it affects the users

I still haven't seen an app where it's only compatible with the latest version of android

Why don't you try reading my post again, Mr. Newsflash....Show me where it says I said that the Nexus was made by google.

Go look up fragmentation. I don't have time to explain it to you.

Hey guys,

Iam a new member here at macrumors and this is my first post so forgive me If I am breaking any rules.

Anyways the question is simple. Have you tried expirementing with any other phones other then the iphone. If so, how has your experience been and did you come back to the iPhone. Cuz quite honestly I cannot imagine being without my iPhone. But Iam willing to expirement with androids and stuff.
For me personally I like the Android OS a lot more than iOS. iOS is great for a media player and for that it beats Android hands down. But for a phone and messaging device for me it falls really really short and that is were it sucks.

Mobile web I find that iOS and Android are for the most part tied mind you Android can do flash and deal with embed videos a lot better.

for my iPod (aka media player) I go with iOS in my iPod touch. For my phone Android. I like to have my media and my phone separate.

It more the Nexus line has the stock Android OS and unlocked bootloaders. It is a dev phone plane and simple. Google has set requirements for dev phones and Google has a much larger hand in how the Nexus is designed.

That's what they were saying?....um why are you like attacking them for the same points you just made in a post that came...after their post?... Also when did anyone say anything about nexus one or S being made by google?

my bad on the post. I re-read the post and realized that you were saying "and".
I usually run into so many uninformed posts and i jumped the gun on that.

Google may have set the requirement on the phone but underneath, it's another variant of galaxy s. Outside of NFC, they're identical down to the Wolfson WM8994 DAC

I was getting bored of iOS and my iPhone 4, so on Friday I went to the AT&T store and picked up the Atrix 4G. Rooted it, and installed Gingeblur and was having fun customizing it. Used it pretty heavily all weekend. Just got back from the AT&T store where I returned it and gladly went back to my iPhone 4. IMO, Android has a little ways to go before I'd switch again.

3 Blackberrys later and I came back!

I'm very very impulsive with gadgets and end up selling most of them a few months later for a lot less than what I paid, I still haven't learnt typing this on my new iPad 2 (would never sell this really)

When my contract was up in July last year I switched to a Bold 9700 from an iPhone 3G because I wanted to try something else. After I got the 9700 I kept seeing leaked images of the torch and fell in love with the slider form factor with a Blackberry keyboard. I got impatient and for some really unknown reason bought a storm 2 for it's bigger screen than the Bold. When the Torch came out a month later I sold the Storm and purchased. Two months later I bought an iPhone 4.

I have no idea why I put up with the low resolution screens (or high resolution but small size screens) or the headphone jacks on the side making it horrible in my pocket, nor why I accepted the crap lack apps! One of the nails in the coffin was downloading flight control and laughing at how much worse it was on bb compared to iPhone!

Dispute this my curiosity has moved onto Windows Phone 7 but I'm managing to curve that and will go to a store and try it out because I know my mind would tell me I've invested too heavily in the Apple Eco system and that I can wait till iOS 5 for a spruced up interface to regain my interest which is apparently lost when my phone does what it's supposed to do without issue.

What didn't you like about it? atrix is notorious for being laggy. Everyone wonders how it received 9/10 from engadget

I have had every iPhone, and am familiar with most other platforms out there. I currently have an HTC Vision (rooted with CM7) and I love it. I troubleshoot iPhones all day long, and while it is nice and familiar, I just GET STUFF DONE with my android phone. Its quick to open apps, download files, jump to other apps, and bang out texts and emails.

There is plenty of polish to the iPhone 4, but for what I need it to do, theres just too many in-betweens in iOS.

The only thing I miss about my iPhones: the App store. The android market is serving me well, and theres not much that I need beyond that, but it seems developers just jump to iOS as a platform and treat the market as an afterthought.

TL;DR, I now use android, love it to death.

I more see Samsung took the Nexus S design and ran with it. Why turn down a good design.

Had every iPhone model.

I bought a Windows 7 handest from eBay (HTC Trophy) just to experiment with it as I liked the look of the OS.

Nice little phone but in many ways it's like the iPhone when it first came out. Lacking some obvious features. Apps are also lacking. It needs that Mango update ASAP :)

I switched back and forth for a while between my Trophy and my iPhone 4, after the iPhone 4S rumors began to spread and expectations of only a minor refresh this year, I decided to give the Samsing Galaxy S2 a go this year and maybe pick up a iPhone 5/6 next year.

The Galaxy S2 is a lovely phone, and touch wiz 4 gives me the customization of android with a some what iOS experience mixed in. I really like it though I do have a certain amount of frustration such as lack of native Mav syncing of android device.

You just answered part of it, the lagginess. lol Besides that, the apps were not as high quality as on the iPhone, and Motorola Blur is absolutely horrible. The phone lagged even with gingerblur. I'd probably be singing a different tune if the boot loader wasn't encrypted and could put whatever I wanted on it.

I'm about to go this route as well. I have had all iPhone models and love my iPhone 4 but the desire to try something different led me to pick up a Samsung Focus fairly cheap on eBay. I figure I'll play around a bit and see how it feels. Like many others, the Android bug just hasn't bitten me. I've tried numerous handsets with all different versions of the OS (though admittedly only just trying in retail stores) and it just never impressed me enough to purchase a handset.

what's a mav sync?

I love the Focus. I wish I didnt go Verizon when I see how cheap its going on ebay and how log ago I couldve gone WP7.

Then again when Im in the Bay Area on ATT I want to punch babies.

I had one for a month. Hated it. One of the biggest flaws was the position of the power button. It if was laying on my back I had to pick it up to check for text messages or emails. Big pain in the ass. Also yeah, it was super laggy and I felt like most Android apps suck.

I agree about Android customization too. It's GREAT that they allow you to customize it, but after a month I realized I had installed tons of different "cooked" software on it, and kept going in circles trying to figure out which one I liked better. In the end, even though it sucks the Apple won't allow us to do the same, I feel like the fact that I know the experience I'm getting because it's not left in my hands is almost a good thing.
