I might experiment with BlackBerry next year. Never owned one, but QNX is really slick. The OS still needs some polishing and curious how it will be in portrait mode compared to the landscape found in the PlayBook.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was on top of my wishlist for phones because emulation and a real gaming pad. But now that I just hacked my PSP and the X Play can't access my games from my PSN account that I would need to rebuy them again, my 6-year old PSP w/ a 32GB card has destroyed the urge for me to get one. Will just focus getting a PS Vita instead and will wait for the BlackBerry QNX phones. I am just not a fan of Android right now. I think WP7 and webOS are both better. With the BlackBerry QNX, it looks like a souped up webOS. I also much prefer Texas Instrument's OMAP4 over NVIDIA's Tegra 2. I see Google is now preferring OMAP over Tegra, so RIM was very forward thinking when making the PlayBook.

Seems alot of Hollywood celebs love their BlackBerry though. Not to mention that London riot incited by help of BBM.

Why do celebs love BlackBerries?
So why do hip-hop stars and fashionistas like them so much? Don't they know that there are way more apps on iOS devices? That the touch screens are more responsive? I guess they do, but they still go for Blackberry over iPhone. I can think of two reasons.

1) Security. Blackberrys route carrier data back through their own servers. This makes them much harder to tap or compromise. In this age of phone-hacking, that's a big deal for someone whose life is likely to be under scrutiny.

2) Reputation as a businessman's phone. The Blackberry is the phone of the powerful, the people who make deals and sit in the Oval Office. Not the sort of people who like retro photo apps and have time to play Angry Birds. I think people who want to take themselves seriously often get Blackberries. Let's face it, iPhones are still associated with layabout hipsters who like taking pictures of themselves.

I used android for a couple months and started getting really into the customization, but once I found out how to use an iPhone with go phone I switched immediately. The smoothness and overall quality of the os and the apps inside is much better with iOS.

There is almost a one year gap between gingerbread and ice-cream. Android is slowly starting to space major updates in year long blocks now that the early rush of feature inclusion is slowing down. Not to mention a lot of popular line of androids (galaxy s, desire, even Moto ones) are getting their latest updates and most could be hacked easily to put the latest version anyway. Since I jailbreak every iPhone I get i tried roms on the captivate and it's actually such a breeze. Fire up Odin, place rom file in box and press start. Done and done. Can't get any easier. I don't find such flashing to be hard and most issues are fixed by flashing these solutions by the community.

I must say compared to Canada and Europe the US carriers seem to be worse for android. Each carrier wants their own version of the phone and installs tons of bloatware and disables functionality. Funny how Canadian carriers only place a boot logo, a couple apps and a changeable homepage link in browser and call it a day. No extra bloat and no disabling of features. You guys are waiting for the galaxy s 2 variants while it's already out here on some carriers in its original form.

It just comes down to personal taste in the end. I use iPhone currently but am not excited about the 5 at all. Hoping to see if ice-cream and nexus prime fix the GUI stuff or if that meego phone gets out before that. I have tried iTunes multiple times but I can't work with it, I hate using it for my media and software management. I need something which can function independent of a desktop client i.e. true post-pc. Same reason I refuse to use wp7. Plus being in control systems I can write code to directly control and interface with machinery using my smartphone, which is a hassle with an iPhone.

Let's hope RIM announces QNX phones in CES 2012. The playbook works very nice despite some shortcomings because of RIM's short-sighted management but the OS has potential. Hopefully they can kick the bbos lovers in rim and place heavy focus on QNX. I'll definitely be interested in a QNX phone.

I also like webos but pre 2 against iPhone 4 was a let down. Considering hp is getting a lot of criticism over touchpad I hope they fix both software and hardware in next round. Or license it to Sony or samsung. Hopefully not to HTC as they are too fond of putting their useless UI with that ugly huge clock on every phone they make.

My wife don't like the carrier here in Japan having the iPhone exclusive. So I couldn't convince her to get one. Finally she took an Android from her preferred carrier. So I had the chance to "touch" one. Always wanted to, never knew someone how actually had one.

Comparing both I still prefer the Apple variant of smartphone. Feels much snappier. What I really don't like (as said before in the thread) that the OS on Android are too much linked to the manufacturer. If they decide not to make a new FW you are kind of stucked. Ok, Apple did that too with the 3G and I understand that on a given time your need to drop some bridges in the past. But on Android it looks more complicated and too early. Plus the last FW update I couldn't even myself as only Windows was supported.

As official Apple Fanboy I will stay with what I have. I really like the consistency of all those iDevices. :apple:

i have had the iphone since it launched , going to a 3GS then a 4.

Now im using a Samsung Galaxy SII.

things ive noticed,

iOS is SUPURB, but the hardware, specifically the battery life, is AWFUL, i love that apple polices its app store to some degree, and because the hardware variation is kept to a minium, developers always know an app they create has only 2 or at worst 3 platforms to deal with.

Andorid is fragmented, clunky and has no common "theme" or "feel" of use between its apps, where the iOS experience is one of an "intergrated, seamless experience" the Android one reminds me of the dark DOS days of having every application on my pc use a different interface and control method. Even the inbuilt "STOCK" apps for email and texting on android devices feel like nasty freeware compared to the slick presentation and implementation on the iPhone

However

until Apple stop trying to aim for the "lightest, thinnest" badge at the expensie of battery life, i wont be going back,

if the iPhone 4 had been a little thicker, and they had increased the battery size by 50%, i would have stayed with iOS as my mobile phone of choice, as it is, having a phone that still has 30% charge after 10 hours is preferable to being in the apple ecosystem.

I have an iPAD for my iOS consumption, and i now feel, a proper phone, as my phone.

I sold my iPhone 4 last week and picked up the galaxy s2. After having the phone for 6 days, I decided to return it and wait for the iPhone 5. The battery life of the galaxy S2 is horrendous! I'm a fairly heavy user just as I was with the iphone 4, but I couldn't get the battery to last for even half a day!

My usage pattern: Charge till 100% before I head off to bed. When I wake up the battery is already down to low 80%. Then I commute to work listening to music and a bit of web browsing. Before I even make it to work the battery is already depleted to around 30 odd percent. Not really a problem as I can charge my battery whilst I'm in the office.

When I head home, my usage is more or less the same as in the morning. By the time I get home, the battery is down to 60 odd percent. This means I have to charge it again before I get to bed.

Aside from the battery, I think the S2 is a great phone. The hardware is amazingly fast and the screen is absolutely gorgeous.

I very much enjoyed using android, loved having widgets, being able to customise pretty much everything from backgrounds to custom keyboards.

One thing that annoyed me was the phone crashing. When I opened an app (angry birds) the phone completely froze. Ended up having to pull the battery out to reset. Then I got another crash when I was browsing through the file manager.

I also had times where I would have to reboot my phone because something was behaving weirdly or not responding properly. These are things which I've never/hardly experienced on iPhones and iOS.

Despite all these negatives, Android is definately something I will be willing to try again sometime in the future (when i get sick of iPhones)!

My fav OS is webOS from tech point of view, I like their Palm Pre 2.

Another thing to watch is new Blackberry phones on QNX OS. I have Playbook and I like it better than my iPad, maybe iOS 5 will make it better.

On the other hand, I stick to iPhone, it has the best infrastructure.
