Pull the trigger, I upgraded from a 12 pro max to 13 pro max, no regrets, 120hz is butter, AMAZING battery life, macro mode makes taking photos fun again.
120hz alone, is worth every penny, no going back to 60hz, game changer. 😁
Smooth scrolling, slightly better camera and bigger battery are the key points the 13pm has over the 11pm
I wasn't a believer when it came to 120hz on small displays, BOY OH BOY!!! no going back for me, won't be buying another apple product if it doesn't have ProMotion. BUTTER!!!I saw someone in another thread say that 120Hz is a gimmick. Couldn't disagree more. The different was quite jarring (in a good way) when I start using my 13 Pro.
For me its huge. 5G is a big leap, especially at work where I got barely one bar on LTE but 3-4 bars on 5G. Normally it would be the opposite as 5G has much worse building penetration than LTE. Must be an oddity of local Verizon towers placement. Nobody gets a decent signal in our building on any carrier. How big of a jump is the 13 pro max from the 11 pro max?
This post makes too much sense and has been reported pending further review. So true. There's a lot of good discussion and advice here, but it's also like being in a psychiatric ward when it comes to people obsessing and making mountains out of molehills over trivial issues.
If you want the phone and can afford it, buy it. If you really don't feel it's worth the upgrade, wait. Some people hang on to their phone for years, others have to have the latest and greatest every year as soon as it comes out. Make your decisions based upon your own situation, you don't need anybody else's validation either way.
I do not know the answer to the Q. . .However, for the first time ever (since iPhone 3G) I am not going to use a screen protector. Apple brags on the durability of the screen and I want to enjoy the beautiful ProMotion OLED screen un altered. Yes, I have Apl care+. Just something to consider, be brave, go naked.Anyone know if they still install screen protectors at the Apple atores
So I haven’t been on much lately, I see you went with a Max. How is it compared to the 12 series? I’m still very undecided about which one I’m going with this year LOL. I always say I’d love the ease of portability but man, that screen. That amazing scree is really outstanding!I wonder if it’s just me but as time goes on (over the last few years) I find that I am less and less sure with my decisions - I often look at the grass on the other side and wonder, should I have gone over there? But often times, it is just that, grass is greener on the other side and I regret making the move.
I almost went with an iPhone mini this year and I’m sure I’d have been able to use it just fine but my wife told me I’d regret it (she knows me really well) and some of my friends told me they couldn’t see me (with my usage) using a smaller phone.
It’s best to stick with what you know - take out a list of pros and cons and go with what you know works. Doesn’t hurt to try things in the store but —- this long post - I’d encourage you not to cancel but go with what you know works.
Like the other smart posters here above me - out of millions and millions of iPhone users, you’ll have a few who go to these forums, and out of the few that go to these forums, some will have problems and voice their opinion - it gets attention and helps them voice frustration but it is rarely indicative of a widespread problem. I know a handful of 13 Pro max owners (my wife and I are two of them) - our iPhones are perfect.
I’ve been buying iPhones for a long time and ALL the problems every year that I read on these forums, I’ve never had - nor my wife, nor my relatives, nor my friends, nor coworkers I know who buy iPhones.
So … lol. Basing your decisions on Macrumors - I wouldn’t recommend it. In fact, Macrumors can make it difficult to enjoy your device because you’re looking for all these problems that (in my experience) often are so difficult to see.
Hey @DevinNj ! Nice to see you! Too many people I used to follow here are getting suspended or just leaving. So I haven’t been on much lately, I see you went with a Max. The other thing I wanted to ask you, did you have issues with your 12 getting warm? Mine constantly gets warm and dims until it cools down. Just wondering if the 13 does it as well. Like I say, I haven’t been around much lately and I feel out of the loop.

I went with a 12 Pro last year for a few months (cuz the 12 Pro Max released later) and when my wife got the 12 Pro Max, I couldn't keep myself from giving the 12 Pro to family and go with the 12 Pro Max. (Screen/Battery Life)
Never had a problem with my 12 Pro Max getting hot - same for my wife's 12PM. That said, these phones don't do well in summer sunlight. During a hike in Joshua Tree National Park here in California - these phones quickly overheated especially in direct sunlight (it was 118F) - but minus direct sunlight in the summer, they were great. Never had a problem with them overheating outside of that - or even on a warm day - but I've seen quite a few posts on it.
Yeah, I ALMOST got the 13 mini. I was at the Apple Store and almost got it. But I went with the 13 PM and I'm glad I did. I spent 12+ hours this week reading on my iPhone 13 PM on a work trip. I left my iPad 11 Pro home and read books/Economist/WSJ magazines on my phone for hours and hours - and it was great. I ended up having to use my phone as a hotspot for a work conference AND a having to call a coworker in another state (speakerphone) for 3-4 hours with no outlet. The 13 PM handled that like an absolute champ (30% battery used).
13PM vs 12PM?
At first battery life was worse - The 13 needs 3-5 days to settle down whereas all my other iPhones only needed 1-2.
Camera is noticeably better - feels like a full frame camera lens - photos are insanely realistic - like reach out and touch sharpness that I didn't get on my 12PM.
Instead of a green glow, the 13PM has a red glow and much more uniform - it can also go a LOT darker on the brightness scale (I do a lot of reading in dark rooms).
It is slightly heavier but the 12PM was already heavy - 13pm is a bit heavier but I'm dealing with it. Pulls down pants more :/ but that battery life, screen, camera, yeah ... worth it.
The 120hz is noticeable. Makes the phone feel far more smooth - like a high speed gaming PC. I don't game but scrolling on sites, typing, - the phone just feels like a car that does 100mph without breaking a sweat.
My 13 PM seems to be a lot cooler than my 12PM.
I promised myself I'd keep the 12PM for a few years. Well, a $790 trade in offer on my 12PM and my wife having a 13PM ...... had to get one. However, I'm really going to try to keep this phone for at least a few years - I paid for AppleCare+ outright. I don't want to think about upgrading till at least 2023.
Same here. My 11PM was flawless but I wanted 5G now that its all over my area and MagSafe, which is awesome. I've never had an iPhone that had flaws out of the box. All mine have been 100%. Honestly, I think the issues reported are rarities. Hey, even Apple is not immune to the occasional lemon. File that under "siht happens." But nobody is as good as Apple at making it right.i came from the 11PM as well.. and no regrets .. love this 13 pm..
my XR has screen issues but totally within margin.. nothing to send back for a new one .Same here. My 11PM was flawless but I wanted 5G now that its all over my area and MagSafe, which is awesome. Do you not consider re-sale value? You're right, the screen is tough but it will still pick up scratches/micro-scratches even if you don't drop it. If you're just passing it on to family members I suppose it's not an issue, but whenever I've sold phones in the past, any damage to the screen (even if just micro-scratches) will reduce the value noticeably compared to a damage-free one.I do not know the answer to the Q. . .However, for the first time ever (since iPhone 3G) I am not going to use a screen protector. I honestly didn't notice this at first (my 49 year old eyes are not that great anymore..LOL) in fact I forgot all about the 120hz. It's a BIG difference, far more pleasant actually.I saw someone in another thread say that 120Hz is a gimmick. Couldn't disagree more. The different was quite jarring (in a good way) when I start using my 13 Pro.
Oh wow, that's ridiculous. I said the exact same thing to somebody last week. Guess I better start looking over my shoulder...I’m surprised to hear people are leaving. Suspended, That doesn’t surprise me, I was warned by a moderator a while back because I asked a guy here what the hell was wrong with him because of how he was really condescending to others all the time. Guess I was reported. After that I tried to lay low.
Anyway here we are again and like clockwork each and every year when I swear I’m getting the smaller version, then I’m like “but that screen. The battery life” and end up with the big boy.
I mean I’ve dealt with heavy phones this long what’s another year? That’s how I justify it. But this year I’m really thinking going Pro, but if I know myself, I’ll be rocking a Max again this year.
