In order to be able to replace cable, I'd really like to see Apple offering a $15 HBO "subscription" (or whatever HBO costs these days). At an initial glance it might mean subscribers could download any of today's HBO movies (and expire them in a month). Whether you had TiVo+HBO (on cable), or just an AppleTV, you'd essentially have the same service.

Of course... it is probably impractical. Some people would tell their iTunes to download EVERY movie and the net would come to a grinding halt. (Then again... how many people tell their TiVo to record every movie?)

Perhaps they could charge subscribers $5/mth plus a 50c rental model (per movie) for any of this week's movies (and expire them in a month).

sweet, I have been waiting for more content to justify a apple tv, then I can get rid of comcast and just watch what I want to buy. :D

Oh HELL yes. I'd really wanna buy an :apple:TV now! Watch Entourage/Sopranos, etc on my TV and iPhone. w00t.

After the big deal with Apple telling NBC to go stuff themselves, I highly doubt they would just roll over and give HBO flexible pricing...

I hope not, then everyone will want to change prices, and we'll have less of a chance to get NBC back..

How about just making everything season only so you hafta buy the entire season? That sounds fair..

This would be great, I could stop ripping the DVDS from the library to watch on my iPod!

Live programming...

Your dream is to pay twice as much for 1/2000th of the content, with no local or live programming even available?

Most Local and live programming is already available for free from most broadcasters with a website. It is just a matter of time before you can replace the word "most" with "all." I suspect it will happen by the end of 2009 with the move to digital cable.

If they offered the current episodes of Real Time and Curb, the very day they air, I'd be a happy camper and cancel by HBO subscription from DirecTV without hesitation.

Not that DTV charges much, I think it's roughly $13 a month for HBO, but in the off seasons of those particular series I'm paying for their other programming that I'm not watching.

At $1 an episode, that would put me at about what ...$24-$60 a year vrs. $156 for DTV's HBO service? Just about. At $2 per, I guess it would pay to just keep things as they are.

We'll see.

You can listen to Real Time with Bill Maher for free through iTunes right now. Not really much to watch anyway. Just people sitting around and talking. I hope this doesn't mean the free podcast will go away.

Thank you for that. I had no idea!!

As far as HBO on iTunes, that's all I need to completely kick Comcast's ass to the curb.

This would finally be the breaking point for me and an AppleTV. I wouldn't be able to hold out any longer.

Screw HBO I want ot know where the rest of FARSCAPE is!

Title says it all, there just isn't all that much of interest on HBO. What I'd like to know is when are they going to get the rest of Farscape on iTunes. Farscape is just one interest that falls out of the Sci-FI genre. I'd really like to see iTunes own the Sci_FI sector for web downloads.

I would also drop my cable package in a heartbeat IF the iTunes store would begin to offer programs with closed-captions. Until that happens, I'm sticking with cable.

Curb Your Enthusiasm and the Sopranos are all I need...

... and some other late night things :D

Man keep that stuff to yourself... (I should quote Avenue Q soundtrack, but instead I'll tell you to go to iTunes store and look up the soundtrack song number 4.)

HBO would be a great asset, and an additional reason to get an :apple:tv. But first I'll wait for the 3G iPhone. (someone had to bring it back around to iPhone rumors somehow.)

HBO??? Variable pricing???

HBO content? Excellent. I kept my subscription to HBO's for years so I could watch Soprano's and Wire. I dropped HBO after Soprano's ended and before The Wire's final season started. Luckily for me, my cable company had a stupid technical error which allowed me to get both HBO HD and Showtime HD for free :D. Well... that has been fixed now :mad:but I'm not going to subscription to any premium channels to watch one or two of their shows again. Content providers should make their shows available on as many legal services as possible.

Btw ... Apple already does variable this for music videos!
