Okay thanks.

I'm not sure why it hasn't been working out of the box for me. And support hasn't been very helpful (both Apple and lg)
Was really hoping I could get it to work then I could basically never have to use my tv remote.
have you tried to use the IR of the apple tv to control the volume - i'm curious if that works - I know its not CEC - but it could be an indicator that you have a defective apple tv.

You also reset the tv? Hmm. First try exchanging the Apple TV. It's brand new and under exchange policy. If it still doesn't work then we know the problem is the tv.

I actually have my "preorder" one coming in today so maybe I'll open it and try it out before I return it.

Update: I tried the new Apple TV that came in and it has the same issue. So it's probably not an issue with the Apple TV. (What a relief)

the ir of the Siri remote works perfectly just not Cec. (The Cec option doesn't show up on the Apple TV settings)

when i hooked up my cable box - the CEC setting on apple tv turned grey (turned off) unhooked the cable box and the CEC setting on the apple tv turned on again.

Is that the setting that says control tv/reciever (paraphrasing)

When you are on the input selection screen where you can select different inputs. Down on the bottom, it says press green or yellow button for simplink (dont remember exact color now), click on that button and it will give you the option to change the settings for simplink (enable TV turn on etc) . After that my input 2 where apple tv is also has simplink sign and Tv turns off when apple tv goes to sleep and turns on when apple tv wakes up.

This is the image i found online. Its green setting and then HDMI also gets a Simplink sign like in image below.

Firstly thank you all for your help I really appreciate it.

The following are what my input and simple link screens look like. That green simple link box doesn't show up anywhere

So what's interesting is that if I wake the Apple TV up it will turn on the tv. But it will not switch inputs to the correct input. It will not change the volume and will not turn off the tv when the Apple TV is out to sleep...
Maybe it's an issue with the tv(it is not a smart tv, but it is fairly new)

@carfreak12321 Your LG menu screens look exactly the same as mine, except mine has blue highlighting and yours has red highlighting. Either way, I did not check to see if the ATV was adjusting volume using CEC or IR in my setup. I surely would like it to use all the CEC features. When I get home, I'll check and maybe help troubleshoot.

As an initial matter - (1) have you tried another HDMI cable? and (2) have you tried unplugging the game console?

That would be great thanks.

And yes I did try to use a different hdmi cable and also unplugged the ps4, also tried changing which input the atv was connected to

Just tried mine. I have Simplink turned on, and all the options underneath are greyed out. The AppleTv doesn't turn on my tv, and it seems the volume is adjusted over ir, rather than CEC.

I'll fiddle with it a bit, but I'm beggining to suspect our version of Simplink just isn't fully compatible with HDMI-CEC.

HDMI-CEC leaves too much up to the manufacturer which is why different brands don't usually work with each other. The next version will lock down what manufacturers can do and hopefully make different brands work together.

Looks like LG is probably the problem. Googling around, I see lots of people have issues with Simplink and Chromecast, which also uses cec. Ah well. At least volume over ir works.

Thanks for the update. And yeah I geuss simple link isn't compatible. Bummer. But at l sat now I know.

Also thank you to everyone for their input and help on this issue. Hope you guys are enjoying your atv

I'm wondering if the LG tv's can be set to turn off automatically after a specified amount of time when no input signal is detected - may be a way around the issue of not being able to turn them off using the siri remote.

I emailed LG's tech support group regarding this issue - their response: 'The issue with your 65ef9500 TV needs advance troubleshooting to identify the main problem. For this case, I suggest that you call our Technical Support Specialist on the number profiled below' Are they kidding me?

Don't expect any miracles from them, nor from any other TV manufacturer. At least on my LG tv, it's not like there are a dozen options and permutations of settings to try. If it doesn't work now, I highly doubt any tech support specialist is going to think of something one of us hasn't already tried or suggested.

@carfreak12321 @shk718

I noticed that HDMI-CEC sort of works on my LG today. If I hold down the Home botton on the ATV, and select "Sleep", the TV will turn off automatically. If I then wake the ATV, the LG tv turns on automatically, but it flickers a lot at first which is strange.

However, if I turn the TV off using the regular tv remote while it is set to another input (say my xbox or live tuner), then turning the ATV on does not turn on the TV automatically.

So, it seems HDMI-CEC wake and sleep works only if the TV is on the correct ATV input.

It's more than nothing!

is it actually turning off (do you hear the click) or is it going into a sortof low power mode? mine won't turn off - it, at one point was going into a low power mode, but for some reason now won't even do that. if i wave the LG smart remote around their pink pointer will show up on the TV - meaning its not really off.

My LG is not a smart tv. I think it's actually off because the light in the corner is red and the screen is off. From what I understand: red=off, blue=on (though in the settings, i can change off to be no light). If I turn the tv off with the regular tv remote, the screen goes off and the light turns red.

Has anyone got HDMI CEC working properly with an LG TV? LG seems to have the buggiest HDMI CEC implementation. Even their latest and fancier LED, OLEDs don't work properly. Samsung seems to have a better implementation. I can turn on/off, control volume, switch inputs with my Samsung. When the Apple TV goes to standby, it automatically turns off the TV.

I have the LG 47LK520 (a bit older now).

What works: It turns on when the AppleTV turns on, and it turns off when the AppleTV goes to sleep.
What doesn't work: Switching inputs doesn't work, and volume control is via ir.

Mine seems to work, turns on my LG 55LG6200 TV, Yamaha RX-575 receiver with apple TV remote, volume control works with Apple TV remote, BUT does not turn off my LG 55LM6200 TV when I turn the Apple TV off with the Apple TV remote! Interesting my Yamaha RX-575 receiver turns on and off with the Apple TV remote. Just my TV won't turn off! :( Any idea's?

I have an LG 55LF6090, 2015 smart tv with an LG sound bar / sub. The volume control through the Siri remote is flawless. ATV4, TV and sound all power on in tandem. Power down can be hit and miss. On occasion the TV will not power down when the ATV is put to sleep. Other times the TV and sound bar power down as the ATV is put to sleep.

I have a LG 65UF6450. The power off doesn't work if my Vizio sound bar is connected. But the sound bar turns on/off perfectly. Also if the apple tv goes to standby based on inactivity, the TV doesn't power off. I wonder if LG even supports power off thru HDMI CEC.
