I have a LG 65UF6450. The power off doesn't work if my Vizio sound bar is connected. But the sound bar turns on/off perfectly. Also if the apple tv goes to standby based on inactivity, the TV doesn't power off. I wonder if LG even supports power off thru HDMI CEC.

I wonder the same. As I've tried different HDMI cables with the same result.

If I turn off the LG tv using my receiver remote my receiver turns off at the same time as the TV. IF I turn off the receiver the LG tv does NOT turn off. So my guess is the LG has some sort of issue or doesn't support TV off thru hdmi cec as piecloud noticed.

So I called the LG tech support. The support rep hasn't heard of apple tv!!! He asked me if it's a kind of TV with a small screen. I told him it was like a roku or fire tv, again never heard of it! Then I had to convince him that HDMI CEC is not a type of cable. Finally he goes and talks to a manager and says that the official LG stand is that they don't support apple tv. LG TVs won't work properly with Apple TV.

I'm really surprised that they don't have second level tech support, and they don't allow us to file bugs. I'm within the return window, so this TV is going back. I wish apple made a TV :-(

ya LG support is terrible.
The person I spoke to was about as helpful.
He just said not all devices with CEC are supported and that was it.

we need to complain LOUDLY to LG - I paid a small fortune for my TV - it has nothing to do with "supporting" Apple TV - it has to do with supporting the HDMI CEC standard - which it seems they're not. this propriety crap they call "simple" link is BS!!!!!

You're right. They have to support HDMI CEC (or simplink as they call it) properly. From my trials with different TVs, I've found that Apple has implemented it perfectly. You can check it with a raspberry pi too. It's just that the TV manufacturers like LG and VIZIO have done a half assed job. Sony, Samsung have done a better job. It seems like LG hasn't even done any testing with HDMI CEC. Even the basic commands seem to work so unreliably.
What really bugs me is that LG doesn't even have a 2nd level support, and there is no way to file a bug report! Support simply reads from the manual, if they don't have a solution, they say it won't work. At least I'm lucky that I'm within the return window.

At least your rep knew what CEC is :)

HDMI CEC is a standard. LG should implement their part right. Then it'll automatically work with any other device with a properly implemented HDMI CEC.

I just want to add that I have an LG PK950N, and a Sony receiver. Both components turn on when I turn on the Apple TV, but only the Sony receiver turns off when the Apple TV is set to sleep.

I figured it out on my silly LG TV. The AppleTV is connected to the TV with HDMI. Hit the Input button on the LG remote and then you need to hit the green button with two dots on it. Only then can you turn on simplink. Now the Apple TV remote turns on the TV, turns it off, and controls the volume. Sigh. I also was able to get rid of the soundbar remote but turning on the auto-power feature (a single stroke of a single button on the remote). Now I'm down to one remote!

That's awesome!

I'm trying to get the sound bar figured out and I'll be down to one.

I suppose it depends on the TV you have and the remote. My report has four coloured buttons at the bottom with dots on them (like this, http://www.genuineremotes.co.uk/ekm...9mt45dpz-tv-monitor-remote-control-3136-p.jpg).
Those 4 colored buttons date back to analog teletext days. The dots are LG's proprietary invention :)
Most modern TV's remotes still keep those buttons, but as the teletext is gone, they seem to be put to random use, like Fn-keys on computer keyboards.

reciently my LG has been turning itself off after a few mins of inactivity. but my apple tv still won't turn it off - the odd thing is it will turn off the tuner and its not even directly connected to it. the apple tv is connected to the lg tv and the lg tv is connected to my tuner. i'm hoping the update to apple tv will address the issue.
