People here are just a little ridiculous. Look OP is not from the U.S. If you've ever been out of the country then you understand buying in a foreign country w/ foreign currency, maybe where your native tongue is not the chief language you realize there are additional pressures. Give OP a break. You are not that infallible that such a mix up couldn't happen to you.

Atlanta so hood. lol

I was in the Lenox store a couple of days ago and it was all poseur wannabes standing around with a box of Logic that they were probably not going to buy, looking up Jeezy videos on YouTube just so they could rapalong and say **** in public.

Sounds like a misunderstanding. The tossed box does seem weird, but, if it's only been 1-2 days they should be willing to work out an exchange. They should have the serial number of the machine to match the receipt.

In the end the OP is entitled to get what he wants. Not having the box could be a small problem but he did open the unit and it would only be fair to be charged the restocking fee. His conversation with the Apple salesperson could change things but I would NOT expect a store across the country to honor what the OP claims in that conversation.

So they charged you $1799 for the C2D version.. hmm

From what I recall, the prices were

1699
1999
2199 <- no 100% sure about this number...

Did the older version have a price drop which allowed the confusion to happen?

No, the new version had a 100 dollar price hike for the 15" base line.

The 17" came down 200 dollars.

So its 1799, 1999, 2199, and 2299
15inch "good", 15inch "better", 15inch "best", 17inch "Bestest-er"?

Sucks that happened, but without the box it could complicate things.

Call up the Apple Store that dealt with you, explain the situation, say you understand how this could happen due to the fact that the box is identical to the old one aside from some fine print sticker (which will make them more willing to help).

Another thing you can do is call AppleCare - they'll be good with dealing with this.

Which if I understand, the store charged the price of a new version ($1799) and you got an old version whcih never had a price of $1799 for any of the versions... I would say you can take the receipt and the macbook to any store and they can help. Even without the Box, it is their problem since they should have never handed you the old box.

I'm suprised it would let you scan the box. I wonder if Apple only scans the serial nuimber and it does not match the price... hmm

Maybe at the same time someone was getting an older version and the boxes got mixed up....??

IMHO I would think being its the wrong computer you shouldn't be penalized at all. They can't legally resell that MBP for full retail anyways since you opened it so off to the refurb section it will go along with a plain box anyways. So not having the box really should not be a big deal.

It's waznt' dat hood whan I wuz ther! :D

Only one b-boy checkin' his FaceBoohk. :p

I'm sorry to say, but by tossing the box, you won't be able to return it.

No offense, but if I was the retailer I wouldn't believe you (even if I wanted to).

Aw, that sucks. I'm sure it was just an honest mistake -- all the MBP boxes look the same except for the fine print. I picked up an i7 yesterday and I asked specifically for antiglare but they accidentally got the glossy; it was a good thing that the cashier checked the fine print before starting the purchasing process.

In the sales persons defense, it didn't help that Apple made the boxes 100% identical except for the fine print sticker.

However, the first thing I did when they brought my box out was verify the fine print sticker. Guess I'm just anal like that. :D

Ya when exchanging my 4 day old 13" for a refreshed one the first thing I did was look at that sticker to make sure I was getting the new model.

If they allow this what's stopping others to try the same thing with their old MBPs and the receipt from a new MBP?

You have a C2D MBP, bought a new I5 MBP. Return C2D MBP showing receipt for what you just bought (i5). How do you prove this?

They also would of had to scan the box prior to purchase as apple keeps track of serial numbers for warranty purposes. So I have no idea how an old bar code would of shown up as a new model.

If you have ever purchased any hardware i.e mac hardware from an apple store the serial number of the machine is on your receipt. So quite easily for them to prove.

They exchanged the old C2D MBP for the new i5 MBP. No questions asked. Thanks for all your responses!

For what it's worth, and I'm not sure if this is widespread practice or just my store, but I called ahead and asked if they had the new 13" MBP's, and was told yes. Went to the store, and all the ones on display were the old ones (and old 15/17's). Figured I'd test to see what happened if I simply asked for a new MBP. sure enough, they gave me a 2.26ghz one. I saw the specs on the side of the box and said " no,no, the new MBP"...the guy looked at me, said oh yea we have those...and got the other box. Shady? I thought so...I mean, i understand wanting to get rid of old inventory, but the methodology just seems a bit wanting...
