that suckss, make him pay!

however you could go to apple, i had this convo with a guy there, where i asked if they would raplace my cracked ipod tauch, 9 months afte i bought it. Didnt expect him to, but he did say that if it was like, only a week or two since i had bought it, they would be like "ah dude that sucks, here, we'll fix it"

so since you just got it, they might be sympathetic =/

Exactly what happened actually.

It would have cost $610 but the Genius was quite nice and said he would cover the charge.... so it's free :)

I just wish my the windows 7 partition wouldn't keep freezing when I play Bad Company 2.

On another note... I hear some weird humming sound when I tilt my MBP from being level to sideways and vice versa. I'm guessing it's just the HDD but I'm just paranoid after this stupid accident.

Hey guys, based on my wholly unscientific statistics, 90% of macbook pro users who actually carry their macbook pros out of the house regularly, i.e., most of you will eventually have visible dents and dings on the casing.

This is a major downside of aluminum. Every macbook pro that I have seen used, has always had some visible case deformity. Bumping your laptop on something just will happen over the course of a year or two. It's really unavoidable, and while on a plastic-based laptop it won't show, it's readily apparent on an aluminum. I've given up on really hoping for a perfect case because I don't think that it will happen. This makes me hesitate on upgrading my macbook pro b/c you want it to be pretty, but I have decided that it's basically an impossible proposition for someone who carries it daily.

I guess. I'm just not going to let anyone else touch it unless it's on a desk. I might get a hardcase for it now... even though I have wrapsol on it. You stats seem scientific enough, it has a number which is good enough for me.

lesson to be learned: NEVER LET ANYONE BUT YOURSELF USE YOUR EXPENSIVE FLASHY MBP!

I've brought my mbp to my friends house to watch some movies, and i would put my mbp on the table infront of his couch, and next thing i know he would lay out his 15" gigantic feet onto the table which ended up trembling the whole table plus my mbp. above that he had the nerve to tap his heel 3 times making the table shake/tremble even more! my poor baby was rattling 1 foot away from where his feet were.

That was enough for me to realize that people besides yourself and other fellow mac users just don't care or recognize how much money these things are nore how much it will cost to repair if anything got damaged outside of apple cares warranty.
:apple:

That is nothing short of a miracle. Apple employee's are trained to find damage and reject warranty repairs. I can't imagine any store employee getting authorization for this repair as it is clearly user damage and is no way covered by warranty. Nor do they owe you any good will that would warrant such a free repair.

I hope for you he is makes good on it, but this is so out of character for Apple, I have a hard time believing it....

Yeah I was a bit surprised as well. It's definitely true though. He just said come back in the next month while he's there and he'll take care of it. Stand up guy in my book. Seemed really empathetic to my situation.

Well, don't talk to ANYONE else in the store. And get it in ASAP.

Definitely. Going in next Friday after my final to turn it in.

I mentioned earlier above about my HDD and a freezing problem. Anyone have any input on that?

Windows 7 just freezes and requires a hard shutdown when I play Bad Company 2 for some reason. All my other games (Source and Starcraft 2) are fine but it's just Bad Company. Should I do a reformat of Windows 7?

Take my advice. Don't load up your service ticket. Get the damage repaired first if they are seriously going to do that. There is a good bet that a drop that caused the damage may have ruined the hard drive. One thing at a time. If the damage is fixed, you may be able to separate the damage from the hard drive failure. Otherwise, they are one in the same and the price for out of warranty repair will increase substantially.

I think the HDD is fine. He ran a diagnostic on my HDD, which passed, and I haven't had any abnormalities with the HDD yet so I'm not exactly sure what it is.

Did you back up the HDD yet? If you haven't, you should get on that ASAP, unless you want to lose your data. Dropping the MBP, especially when it's on can cause damage to the drive. Even if it doesn't end up failing, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

THey have a 14-day return policy...if it were I...I would take it back...maybe saying yeah it was like this when I bought it and tell them you called and they gave you the run around so you have finally made it back to return it....just my little dishonest opinion:cool:

What's wrong with you people? I would rather live with the damage than doing something dishonest like that. Lying in turn for saving a few hundred buck is just wrong in my opinion.

Those diagnostics aren't really that accurate. But anyways.. I would suggest reformatting the computer, and like someone else said, don't load up your service ticket. If reformatting doesn't work, then go in again and have them replace the HDD.

Can we see pics?

If you don't already have it, get special computer coverage on your home insurance policy, or renters if that applies. It's only about $38 a year and it covers any damage to your computer, whether you cause it or not. Sorry to hear about your problem. That stinks!

Yeah I did that earlier. Honestly, the HDD seems fine. I think when it landed the part where the dent is got the majority of the shock, not the rest of the computer. It was only like a 2 foot drop since it slid on a trash can on the way down.

Ah I see. I actually Time Machine'd my computer to a last Monday (just got the MBP on the 14th). I mean it's working great, there's just a weird humming noise when I keep tilting it back and forth, not very loud but different enough than the regular HDD humming (since it's a 7200RPM) to notice. I'll get some pics after class.

If Apple does not end up fixing this for you, your friend needs to. And while I do not know how old you are, if you are a teenage and your friend does not pay, you need to kick his a$$. He should learn the lesson early in life, since he sounds like a careless idiot.

Yeah, but its not like its his fault that his MacBook Pro got damaged.

Anyways, good luck in getting it fixed, and don't let people walk around wih it again. Because next time you might not be so lucky, and have to fork out $600 for it:eek:

get your friend to pay. his fault, he pays. plain and simple!

Hopefully the Genius pulls through in the clutch. He seemed sincere and I'm not sure if I see the good side in people but I'm going to take him for his word.

Yeah. Getting a sleeve for this baby as soon as I get it back from getting it fixed. It's not leaving my desk and no ones' going to be touching it anytime soon.

As promised, pictures

How'dya mean its not leaving your desk? Won't you even use it on your lap?

Ran a 7 hour diagnostic test (hold d when you start up and use the hardware diagnostic) and everything turned out fine. I'm just going to ask the genius if the humming of the MBP when I tilt it (the humming happens while tilting, it doesn't happen when tilted). If he says it isn't I'm just going to get the upper case replaced.

For the Bad Company 2 freezes I'm just going to reformat Windows 7 and try new drivers and see how that works.

Lol for the next 8 months I don't have to be too careful because mines under warrenty. Although it doesn't cover cosmetic damage does it:confused:

Mine is still also, I just got it last Friday the 14th. Nah, it doesn't cover cosmetic damage. Just hardware.
