Go to a place with wi-fi (tim hortons or a cafe`) and have him send the money via paypal. Once sent, check your paypal to make sure it was sent and then exchange the iPhone.

It's dumb to carry $800 in cash on you. Or tell him you would like to meet him at his local bank to exchange the money for both your safety.

I didn't read the whole thread, looks like you're going to pass.

Honestly, try eBay. It's not personal, paypal is secure and smooth for transactions and you do not need to make awkward shady contact and risk being robbed/shot/stabbed/punked etc.

You'll get the same as craigslist most likely and the listing fees will probably cost you $2. That is well worth your time/gas/safety.

Personally, I'd look up the place of business. Could be something quite reputable and you might feel differently.

I found the shopping center he said his business was located in but I can't find his business!

he's being weird saying he is a business man and doesn't have time to mess around. He wants me to go to his shop. If he can't take 10 minutes to meet at a bank ill pass lol

If he is indeed a shop owner, then he should be very well informed about how important security is. The absolute best place to meet is at a bank with a lobby. If he is unwilling to meet at a bank that is even close to his shop...fahgettaboutit!

now that is interesting. Did you use Google Street View?

Here's an idea....give us the info you know about him...we'll use crowd-sourcing to see if this guy is a liar or legit.

I disagree with this statement. There are a lot of scammers on ebay and paypal normally sides with the buyer. Listing fee on ebay is cheap, but final value fee on an $800 item will be approx. $50 and paypal will take out another 3.5-4%. By the time you pay for shipping and all, it'll cost you $100 to sell on ebay. Craigslist is always a better sale as long as it's in a safe public location.

agree, i sold my wifes upgrade for $900.00 on craigslist, met guy in local library after exchanging text for a day. you can also use pipl.com to reverse the phone number that the person is calling you from, i did, that way i knew his name and address before we met up.

If you're worried about the cash being counterfeit, conduct the transaction at a bank or some sort of financial institution.. credit union, money gram, etc... They are on almost every corner and you can get a teller to verify the bills for you.

I deal with counterfeit and CL scams for a living, you're better off following your gut and covering your ass than getting scammed or jacked. This guy is willing to pay $800 for a phone but can't be inconvenienced enough to meet for 5 min on a lunch break or after work...

"If it sounds too good to be true, it is."

Good luck and be safe.

your buyers spelling and grammar make him sound like a nigerian scammer lol. A couple of things, dont have him bring the marker! you know he can get a fake marker to check the bills right? just my advise. Meet at a public place that is close to his business if he wants, make sure that you are familiar with the place and that there is enough people around when you make the transaction. Having a friend with you is always a plus.

BTW the guy that said for you to call the cops so that they can monitor the transaction, I dont know if he was kidding or not but he made me laugh...

OP wish you the best and be safe!

Don't sell to him. There you go. I'm telling you, it doesn't make logical sense.

He wants to avoid a contract with AT&T? So do dozens of other people.

You can sell this phone to someone else.

He's really not acting very professionally. If he doesn't have time to pop out to a bank, he's not a very successful businessman.

Skip. Skip. Skip.

Someone else will buy it.

Ok, so this is an iPhone 4...the price isn't THAT outrageous so it's a bit more believable. There is a sign in the shopping center sign that says "SIGNS" :p....so it looks like the business might actually there. I would do a drive by and maybe even go in posing as a customer. I can't locate an A to Z signs in Google or Bing near that address.

Have you done a reverse lookup on his phone #?

Because he's going to do what? Crooks that jump you in a parking lot aren't exactly the types to be able to find you via your cell #.

To me, anyone that scared of craigslist would never give out any personal information no matter one. And this isn't a guy in a parking lot, he's a store owner, not a homeless thug.

That's the point, we don't know that.

That's true. He could be a homeless thug who went to an internet cafe, found his post, found a store, killed the owner, hid the body, and is now currently running the store, waiting for the op to come in so he can steal an iPhone and rape, kill and rape again the op. Its the perfect crime.

You're afraid to meet this guy in a public place but yet gave him your cell phone number?

Well, that's a good point.

From what I read, he's not afraid to meet him in a neutral public place, just this guy's place of business, which, really? I don't blame him. A sign shop that really has no sign in front? Um... front for gang activity? Terrorists?

Okay, that's being dramatic, but still. If the man wanted to buy MY phone, he'd be meeting me at a bank, a Starbucks, the mall... somewhere we both chose that was mutually convenient and PUBLIC.

Well, you know the old saying about the shoe maker, don't you?

Or if you would have read, you would have seen the OP stated he went by the address and couldn't find the place of business.

So the signmaker goes without a sign?

Makes it hard for customers to find the shop. Maybe the signmaker has no signs for personal use, that'd make more sense. Or rather, his kids don't. ;)

Me, I'd not bother with someone who had an exchange with me like the one posted above.

Too many other fish in the craigslist sea.
