It's obviously a scam. Ask for the money, deposit it in whatever form he gives it. Once the funds are verified, give hm the phone. If he wont meet you somewhere and wants you to come to his shop, he's full of crap. Find another buyer. Stop being so greedy. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Just last week, I sold my iPhone 3GS to a guy from Toronto. Me and my Dad drove about 40 minutes to meet him at a Light Rapid Transit station. He was waiting outside, we went inside the station so he could look at the iPhone and he counted the money and handed it to my dad.

This guy was really nice, so there are genuine people out there.

Public places are the best for these kinds of things.

I've had so many CG transactions I can't even remember all. I've dealt with $6k+ and never had problems.

Take him to starbux sit down inside and you should be fine. I used to sit the buyer in my car and have my buddy sit in the back
and go to a public parking

Publ place and bring a friend. I sold both mine and my wife's iPhones last week on Craigslist. There are good people out there. Just don't do anything stupid.

It's like a crime movie!

Yeah. A really boring one. Hey man! You got the iPhone? Yeah, you got the cash? Yeah! Ok... thanks... you too.. take it easy.. Credits roll...

after end credit surprise tag: op and buddy make love in car in pile of money....

Be sure to record the audio!! Maybe take a few pics ahead of time. Meet in a public place and speak loudly enough so that we can hear it when you post it here. :D

I have a new 32 GB iphone 4 I put on craigslist. A man wants to buy it for $800.00. What is the best way to go about this? I do not want to get scammed, robbed, or given counterfeit money. How can I avoid all of these? I've heard tons of horror stories. I want a white iPhone so this is the perfect opportunity for me. Thanks for your input.

You can get a hell of a lot more than $800. Wait and find the right buyer, don't settle for the 1st offer.

If you do meet up go inside starbucks and make sure you get him on camera just incase.

I understand that. But what about the possibility of fake money? 800 bucks is pretty hefty.

Bring a counterfeit bill marker. You can buy them at Walmart or any office supply store for a couple bucks. Or just take one from your local grocery store. They're always laying out around the registers.

DO NOT go to this guy's "shop". Is $800 worth a 50/50 gamble with your life? Have you not heard about the robberies/murders that were due to good people selling things on craigslist? The fact that this guy is going through the trouble of gathering up $800 in cash but wont drive a few minutes to a public place and spend 5 minutes making the deal just sounds like a setup. He could have buddies hiding there and they come out and put a gun in your face. Its just not worth it. Find another buyer.

Just meet at a bank or the local police station. The police typically won't mind if you do the transaction in the station. Also, just talk to the guy on the phone and get a feel for him. Most people are honest and nice and aren't out there to commit a crime.

I would also request the money in 20s. That reduces the likelihood of them being fake.

Do no meet at his shop!!! Around where I live, this older man and his wife were selling their car, and the guy who wanted to buy it said for them to meet him at his shop. They drove separate cars. The wife waited in one car and the husband in the for sale car rode around with the guy interested.

I believe the husband called his wife saying something wasn't right and hung up. He never returned but the guy did and somehow killed his wife too. They took the car. I cannot remember all the details. I think they caught the guy, but just beware.

It might not be a scam or a trap or anything, depending on the part of town his "shop" is in. Can you drive by it or Google Street View it first to get the impression if it is a legitimate place of business?

I've met people at their workplaces before to do craigslist transactions... as long as it is in a safe area I would bet you're probably okay.

Why are you going to pass, I mean if he's willing to pay cash, meet in a public place and/or bank?

he's being weird saying he is a business man and doesn't have time to mess around. He wants me to go to his shop. If he can't take 10 minutes to meet at a bank ill pass lol

Oh ok, I missed that. You're right, we're talking about a lot of money and if he cannot make an effort and meet in a public place then it doesn't pass the smell test.

One thing I do when it comes to craigslist sales is listen to my small voice in my head. If I get uneasy feeling in talking/emailing someone, I pass on the sale and so given what you said about his desire not to meet somewhere public. Its a wise move to pass on this sale.

I've done a lot of transactions on CL the biggest being 600 and they were always willing to meet wherever. He just called and left me a voicemail too. It's scary. Is there anyway I can let yall listen to it? yeah i don't have to sell it or anything. I would like the white iphone but its no biggie.

Personally, I'd look up the place of business. Could be something quite reputable and you might feel differently.

I do craigslist transaction a lot. I personally won't deal with someone refuses to accept the safety measure that is supposed to be good for both sides. I've heard too many horror stories. I won't go into his "shop" where he might have guns or his "friends" waiting for you.

That is why both you, and your friend should be packing. But on the smart side, do not go into his shop, it is bad juju.
