help. iphone 4 transaction on craigslist.

this time with a MacBook!

seeing as we are seeking advice on sketchballs. this guy emailed me about a macbook I am selling and am not sure about him. He's from flatbush brooklyn, the sketchy area.

Me: Hey Toni, this is Tom with the MacBook. I was wondering if we could meet on Saturday instead at around 2pm instead. This is my main number. 7:26 PM

Me: No we just talked on the phone earlier and you said Friday was good from when you first asked Thursday. Were you even listening. This deal is over. 7:41 PM

Me: you have class on saturdays? is it all day? Thursday I cannot because I plan to bring the Macbook to the Apple store to get it refreshed for you and it will be ready on Friday. So Saturday would be best. 8:44 PM

After the way you were treating him, I'd be worried about YOU. "This deal is over". Seriously? Are you 12?

And why are you listing his phone number on the internet? That's just douchey.
 
first of all, he was already testing my patience on the phone. he kept repeating the same times over and over and once we agreed on something, he did it over again. secondly, he was asking sketchy stuff like can we meet at the bus stop by the school, which I replied why don't we just meet at the school? third, I changed teh digits there so thats not his real number. didnt feel like writing a name for him,

I so hate Craigslist just BC of these issues, I prefer eBay and Paypal, although they are not much better, just that with Paypal your both protected.
 
I'm alive. Sale didn't go through. Went into his shop before hand acting like I was interested. He was very scary looking and sketchy

but if you went interested beforehand couldn't you have made the sale? you just went in to tease basically?

Have you ever tried selling a decent phone on the internet? Or anything that scammers might want? eBay has gone to complete **** and even PayPal has loopholes that keep you from getting money. Most decent sellers have left eBay in recent years due to swamp-listing Chinese businesses...

Above: No, he went in to save his ass. If he went in with the phone he probably would've gotten mugged. Smart move, but I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that place.

He went in to determine if it was safe to walk in with the iPhone and expect to walk out with his money. He probably didn't even let the guy know who he was, so no tease.

I agree. eBay and PayPay have really gone to *****. The liabilites of going the Craigslist route can be eliminated by just meeting at a bank. Especially one that has a tricky parking lot to get out of. They have security cameras both in and out and you can deposit your money right there and then so the buyer will know you are not leaving the premisis with cash. If a buyer is unwilling to meet at your bank...fuhgetabouit!

Yeah. This is pretty much the safest route. I mean, there are banks on pretty much every corner. Anyone who says that going to one is inconvenient is probably full of crap.
 
I would get really annoyed if I am the buyer.

I've never had sellers or buyers who asked that many questions before.
 
I just meet people at a local grocery store where I used to work and inform my old bosses that I'm coming to make a transaction. They take a few minutes to watch from a distance. They're not scared to tackle thieves. :cool:

@Consultant: Because they're stupid. You should ask questions with high-value items. Then again, you probably don't sound a scammer, do you?
 
I've sold 3 iPhones on craigslist. Always meet somewhere crowded, if he has a problem with that then something is definitely fishy. They all paid cash too, never did check to see if it was real, but my bank didn't have a problem depositing it!
