iMac froze & restarted;
my Login appears & I enter my password, but its not accepting it?!

- noticed WiFi is off in the Menu Bar & I can't click it;

- I restarted & tried again — same thing, password not accepted

- tried this tip from Reddit, didn't work, just the Login screen appeared

any ideas??

this seems to be happening a lot?

I reset my password;
& there's no password hint/reset on the Login window like the Apple website says.

If I have to reinstall macOS, I will, but how do I even do that?
That sucks. I think it’s an option when you setup the password but you don’t have to turn it on. I swear there was a way to reap the password with your Apple ID and password but maybe not.

The login screen is asking for your Mac's user password. It is not asking for your Apple ID password. Resetting your Apple ID password has no effect here.

Did you enter your password incorrectly at least three times for it to show up, like the article says?

It's in the article that was linked...the very last part about erasing the Mac. If you have an older Mac, then follow the links about reinstalling macOS. Just be aware that you will lose all your data.

yes thanks;

yes, tried my Mac password like 10 times,
but before & after I changed my Apple ID password,
& wasn't accepting either.

have a 2019 Intel iMac 21" with Ventura.

Am reinstalling Ventura right now.

Some awful Apple bug.

People are saying their Macs are now useless expensive paperweights. :confused:

ok, reinstalled Ventura, my Login just appears again & Login not working still

I noticed in your screenshot , that you had US keyboard layout selected. Are you in the US?

but it is probably a moot point now, since you erased your HD (= all your data)...
In Canada, but I use the US keyboard layout

(because before, the Canadian didn't have the cent symbol ¢)

but i was clicking the keyboard, & nothing happens on the Login screen
(our mac HD was empty,
'cause we use an external HD,
& just had my, my sister & moms User profiles,
but the same password,
so my mom said just erase the HD & see if that works

but i couldn't switch users on the login screen;
no way to switch

restarting right now

Interesting, had same issue as you are just yesterday. I was thinking that I have forgotten my password but it looks like some other issue is responsible. If you think you know your password, this helps:

If you have wait time for entering password, wait, than
Start mac in recovery (for Apple silicone macs, turn off your mac, press and hold start button until you see logo)
When in recovery, it will show your admin account click it, and login there. Make sure you have right keyboard selected, if you can use the same as is your HW keyboard. Login there works. You can change your password there. And it is done.

I still don't know why on login screen it didn't worked. But it did happen after update to 15.5.

P.S. Reset using cloud account for some reason didn't worked. I was connected to wifi, and after 5 min, I canceled the process, because nothing was happening.

What a mess Apple. What a mess.
