If you buy the SS with black rubber strap and then wish you hadn't and buy one of the other ones, you'll end up spending $49 more than you would if you'd just bought the expensive one from the start and not bothered with the rubber one.

I'm talking about risk/reward. If I buy the black rubber strap I might like it and not feel the need to trade up. In which case I've saved myself $100 of expenditure. But if I don't like it and buy an expensive strap, I've now spent $49 more than I would have done if I'd bought the expensive one right from the start and not bothered with the rubber one at all.

Agreed, but I feel like we need two bands regardless, one rubber and one upscale.

And if you want to buy that SS with the entry band (sport rubber) just snag that and then see how you feel about it after you get to touch and feel all the others.

That, if you think about it, makes the most sense.

Get the stainless steel (that is the SS, right), and the cheapest band, because you can always 'accessorize' later, and if you hate the thing, or want the bigger/smaller size, you don't have a mint tied up in it.

Oh, and if there is a major flaw in it, you aren't as pissed, and can live without it if it needs to be swapped.

My story on expensive watches is that I bought a TAG Carrera self-winding. Expensive watch. Within the first week of wearing it, I scratched the case on something. Now I have a very expensive watch, that still works, but has a nice big-ish scratch on it.:(

No more expansive watches for this lab rat...

In Canada the SS with sport band is $700, and then $200 if you want the milenese loop=$900. If you buy the SS with milenese loop to start its $850, plus $70 if you want to add a sport band=$920, so you actually save $20 by starting with the sport band! It's odd that apple would do this.

Lol why? The U.S. pricing is far more efficient... 748 both ways

Ans why space gray? Silver Aluminum would be better. Hides the scratches too.

Not really feeling the silver aluminum, I prefer the space gray aluminum version better

I did actually pick up a fenix 3, silver color. Thought long and hard about the Sapphire with metal band, and couldn't justify the added cost. Might have been different if they had a bundle like the lesser models. It's strang ethat they don't...

An extra $100.00 for the Run-HRM, when it's only $50.00 with the bundle.

So you pay to be stylish? Harsh... :(

That is a tough decision. I think get a watch though, don't skip it.

I went though the same thing after the prices were released. I finally decided (or for today at least) to go for the watch I originally wanted when I saw the first video. The black SS.

When I first saw the price, I was trying to pick something else to settle for that was less expensive( for a smart watch at least). In the end I decided just to get it. I probably wouldn't be happy with any other watch.

I agree, I finally looked at the pricing. I would want the watch to have a look similar to a real watch like my Classic Dive watch with Stainless steel bracelet. so the 42mm with the stainless band is just $1,000. I've decided to hedge my bets that there will be millions wanting this timepiece so I'm scouring all of my liquid assets to make an additional Apple stock purchase. Given that this watch can't have more than a couple of hundred dollars worth of materials involved Apple will be making well over a "Keystone" on these (more so with the Gold one) once development, tooling and advertising is factored in. Don't know what a "Keystone" is? Its an old jewelers term that applies to their standard mark up - This standard mark up is at least four times cost! This also means Apple will be sure to artificially constrain the $350 model.

Same with me... I am sold on the SS too. I am actually going to order both at the witching hour and visit the Apple Store when I can to molest the the watches.

I will make my final decision when I get both in hand and return the one I don't want.

And I will also be getting v2 when it comes out!

My name is Dean, and I am an Appleholic!

LOL I spent all of my Appleholic money on a maxed out 13" rMBP - At least I can sell it in twelve months. Will there be a market for last years watch?

Huh wtf? Lol

Here's my thing too, hopefully the bands are compatible to the future Apple watch version, v2 v3 etc so we can reuse or at least justify paying 149, 449

Lol. Nice purchase though. I hope there will be a market for gen 1 AW! Got to fund gen 2 when released someway.

I was a day early and a dollar too much....about 9 months before the release of the 5k display iMac, I bought the old one now and also a MBA. Not the 5k and the new MB are calling my name, but I just spent that budget on the "old" computers.

I saved for the AW and planned on getting it when I purchased the iPhone 6+. Part of the reason I got it in the first place.

I am still ordering the blk SS and space gray sport at midnight and decide on which one to keep after I get them both in my hands. I will return the other to the Store or sell it to a fellow Appleholic for face value. (Those scalpers really make me PO'ed!)

Same story here, only mine was a TAG Link with a diamond dial.

LOL.

I really never wear it unless I'm dressed up. I keep meaning to go have someone buff out the scratch. TAG wants about 700 bucks to get the damned scratch out.

Umm.. no.

When in doubt, just keep in mind, it's always easier to upgrade than to downgrade.

If you start off with aluminum and enjoy the Apple Watch concept and decide to get something flashier, you would have no problem unloading the Aluminum, whether it be 1 month from now or 6 months from now. Base models always retain the highest percentage of resale value.

However, if you start of with the SS, and you 'like it' but don't 'love it', that annoying regretful feeling is just awful. I definitely had that feeling, when buying the maxed out iPad that I upgraded less than a year later; took a huge loss in resale value by buying that model. Also, if you try to downgrade your SS, you will take a small financial hit, even if it's only $50 -- that would make the price difference $150 or less -- might as well just keep it.

If you upgrade though, you wouldn't doubt that you made the wrong decision, as you already had spent time with less expensive model and feel more informed. You would probably end up loving the SS more, just for that reason.

Some of the folks on here are 100% positive that they will like the SS version. I'm not one of them, and it sounds like you aren't either. No need to go all in on day one.

Sorry, it's a Garmin 'fenix 3' sport watch. It's got more connectivity than the Apple Watch making it more usable for me...

Those are character marks. No big deal, just wear your watches.

I never buy a watch to keep them in my safe and only wear them a few times out of the year.

I like to enjoy them daily, so I wear my Rolex's all the time. I got a little ding in one banging against a jail door. Now if anyone asks, I have a store behind it.

I will only get the watches polished right before I pass my watches down to my kids. Until then, I don't mind any little scratch or mark.

Drive it like you stole it!!!

Actually I think it's this one. I paid a lot more than that for it. *sigh*

You are right. It's only a watch, and if I didn't want to get it scratched, and be disappointed, I could have gotten a Timex.

It is am amazing looking watch, even with the scratches.

I voted SS with sport band.

I have been through similar reasoning and decided that I am going to do the same thing (white band though). My thoughts were that I know I wan the SS and sapphire and the extra 200 for that is fine with me. As far as straps are concerned I would really like either a classic buckle or leather loop eventually but If I get the sport band first I can get a feel for how much I like the overall experience before I start investing in other bands.

At some point I will have to put my faith in Apple that they will continue to use the same mechanism so my 150-700 dollars worth of bands don't become obsolete in a year (or 18-24 months in my opinion).

Good point imagination... I'm leaning towards the base ss too.

Buy a SS and when Gen. 2 comes sell it for half price bringing the cost of ownership to about 350. You get a SS for the price of the sport.

As for the band, picture it with different outfits in your wardrobe and buy the band the fits with the most outfits.
