No Apple Intelligence? It's not a big selling point for me yet, but it shocks me they are releasing any devices that won't support it. Apple used to never fragment software really. Between this and no MagSafe on the 16e, I find it odd and disappointing.

It's a great price for what you're getting.
Yes, but iPad11 should have the 17Pro and C1 chip: The iPad Mini is only $50 more but is given Apple Intelligence….go figure. So this means iPad12 will get the A18 and C1 chip to make it Apple Intelligence bound. Wow we have to wait another year for a budget iPad with AI.

The iPad mini costs $150 more ($499 vs $349) before discounts.

Apple Intelligence is overrated anyway. All my iPads support it but I ended up just disabling most features.

I think Apple is sending a totally wrong signal here... they're already so far behind the AI competition and now the new products don't even support their own platform - not good.
So you would rather Apple not differentiate/separate there Lineup and essentially jeopardize there other models sales. If you put everything or most features in a entry level model, the consumer would just go with that entry model and get the most bang for there buck and it would be very difficult to upsell them. Apple ain’t having that.

Apple strategically removed MagSafe from the 16e to get consumers to at minimum consider paying $200 more for that must have MagSafe feature.

I wonder how many people would swap that C1 for Qualcomm if it meant the 16e starting at $499 instead of $599.

Remember 128GB Version of the old outdated looking SE was from the beginning to the end $479

Don’t expect 16e to be $499 starting price

I'm betting on / hoping for 6 GB RAM. That would fit nicely with A16, and it would also fit nicely into the overall iPad lineup. 6 GB would be a very substantial 50% increase from the previous 4 GB RAM. Another nice upgrade is the base storage increase to 128 GB, something I wasn't sure was going to happen this generation.

In 2027, they can upgrade the entry-level iPad to 8 GB RAM with A18 and Apple Intelligence. They'd keep the base storage at 128 GB for that next release and the next, and probably the next too, past 2030. 🤪

🤦‍♂️

And there are people who believe that a budget iPad will get a “Pro” branding chip

Get Real

It will be 3 years before the iPad 12 update and that model will probably have Apple Intelligence.

Writing as an elementary school tech educator: I am very excited by the iPad 11's spec bumps without the price bump ($329 education price). Pairing an iPad 11 with Logitech's Combo Touch case ($159.99) provides a sub-$500 device for elementary students, one that can be given as young as kindergarten and last through the elementary grades. Though pricier than some Chromebooks, this setup provides a lot of creative possibilities for students with more storage (yay 128 GB!) for video creation/editing without the need to offload apps to free up space. I'm not sure if Apple's trying to re-up its presence in the elementary education market, but if they are, the iPad 11 was a good step to take!

My understanding was that Chromebooks win in primary school edu not just because of the price of the hardware, but also because of the simplicity of the device management with free Google management software, and the availability of free Google educational software suites matched to Chrome OS.

Mind you, the kids in the school where my kids attend all generally dislike Chromebooks. When asked what they want at home, it's iPads, MacBooks, and Windows PCs. Nobody asks for a Chromebook, even though that's what they use at school. However, those kids don't have a say in how public school budgets are spent.

Bringing out a new product that doesn't support Apple Intelligence is highly bizarre. Even though I think Apple Int. is not currently very useful, it's presumably one of their most important initiatives for the coming years, will improve and expand its capabilities, and I would not consider a new product that can never support it.
