I really like that Windows Whatever is supported until jabruary 201x, and I know it years in advance. Must be really frustrating to have a Mac that can run latest Windows 10 really well but can't run latest MacOS.

Being stubborn, I still rely on Aperture & Iphoto, so Mojave it is.
But is Microsoft giving free copies of the latest versions of Windows to those really old machines?

Actually they did. They gave free upgrades from Windows 7+ to 10
Well that suggests they no longer do it. Are they still offering free Windows 10 to every old PC from the early 2000's? Meaning all one has to do today with a very old machine is to simply download Windows 10 from Microsoft's website and get a full licensed version free of charge?
and have provided free updates for the last few years.
Then there's no complaint here for Apple. Windows 7 to 10 is only Win 7,8 and 10. That's 3 OS's. Since 2013 Apple has provided 8 new OS upgrades free of charge. To be honest there's not a whole lot of innovation with Windows 10. There's a lot more going on with macOS Big Sur.

Not surprised to see my mid-2014 15" MBP excluded from 12. I was planning to get a 16" Apple silicon MBP in spring 2022, hoping it would be a version after initial release, to better ensure teething issues have been addressed.

I love how much people drink the Apple Environmental Kool-Aid. These machines are still perfectly capable and will run Windows 10/11 for years to come.
Haha yeah. When my 2015 5k iMac is no longer supported I‘ll just use windows 10 on it until it dies. I hardly use a desktop anymore.

macOS Monterey is compatible with many of the Macs that were able to run macOS Big Sur, but it drops support for some older MacBook Air and iMac models from 2013 and 2014.

A full compatibility list is below:
  • iMac - Late 2015 and later
  • iMac Pro - 2017 and later
  • MacBook Air - Early 2015 and later
  • MacBook Pro - Early 2015 and later
  • Mac Pro - Late 2013 and later
  • Mac mini - Late 2014 and later
  • MacBook - Early 2016 and later
These are the Macs that were compatible with macOS Big Sur:
  • 2015 and later MacBook
  • 2013 and later MacBook Air
  • Late 2013 and later MacBook Pro
  • 2014 and later iMac
  • 2017 and later iMac Pro

Nice 😊! My Mid 2015 dual graphics MacBook Pro 15 will run this! As long as I don’t have to install it with dirty tricks like I had to do with Big Sur because it kept failing. I just got my 2015 in April 2020 and it looks like I may be in the Mac market again next year if MacOS 13 leaves my Mac 💻 behind. Maybe it will be supported because the very last 2015 integrated graphics model to be discontinued was July 2018. Seeing that some are only less than 3 years old for some people…

Dang... I bought my wife a 15" late 2013 rMBP three years ago and it didn't make the cut - oh, well she hardly uses it. Still has only 5 battery cycles on it - lol. Someone stated it could make a decent Windows machine - might be an idea. I got a reprieve for my late 2015 Retina iMac 27" - I want to replace but not for a 24" with 4 ports. Nope. Let's see a 30" get released in the next 6 months please Apple.

I am so happy that they didn't announce any new Macs! That way they could focus on high-priority items like iCloud, Maps, and iPad widgets.
Those are pretty high-priority things if you use them regularly. I buy a new Mac once every few years, but I use iCloud and Maps and iMessage every single day. New features that -- for free -- get me more use out of something I already own? That's a great deal.

Not that I care but... Why would they forbid a computer from installing a modern OS when it can? I mean, why the computer could run Big Sur but not Monterey?

If it runs but terribly so, it's bad for Apple's image. They don't want people to see their new OS choking and wheezing on a machine carrying their brand.

I was pleased to see the early 2015 MBA made the cut. I got an 11" one by accident 6 months ago, bought it at a great price for my eldest daughter but it has an Arabic keyboard (minor differences to a UK keyboard really). Daughter didn't get on with it so I sold my 2009 MacBook White and kept it.

Unfortunately both my daughters have 2014 11" MBA's and quite nice spec's both i7 8GB 256GB I think I will wait until next year and buy them both M1 MBA's after I recover a bit more from the pandemic. I didn't expect these to make the cut although some people seem surprised.

Well my Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (the one with cd drive) didn't get macOS Big Sur, yet its here running fine using Big Sur patcher and with auto updates. 🤷‍♂️ So wait for macOS Montery patcher and well you're good to go.

So Broadwell and newer. Though that wouldn't explain the 2015 15" MacBook Pro and 2014 Mac mini, both of which are Haswell, nor the 2013 Mac Pro which is Ivy Bridge-E. I know with Big Sur it all came down to a Wi-Fi card driver. I wonder what the dividing line is here. Also, this worries me as I didn't think we'd see Broadwell Macs being a minimum requirement for a good while. I feel like we only have two more cullings before Intel Macs are out of support altogether (one wherein its 2016 and newer, and then one where T2 Macs are the only Intel Macs still supported). Sad.

Oh well, I'll upgrade to Linux, I guess.
Maybe I'll keep a Mojave partition, so at least I can reinstall my 32 bit games.

LOL move fast? Monterey supports select Macs back from 2013. Lordy your choice of words. SMH.

Well, I think they aim at accelerating the process, dropping support for 2015 MacBooks and 2013/2014 MacBook Airs and Pros.
Since English is not my native language, it may happen that I don't choose the most appropriate word to express precisely what I mean.

I purchased 2015 Late 27-inch iMac like 2 weeks ago. I really hope it serves me a bit longer than just a year. It is dumb that iOS devices get continued supports, but much more expensive hardware gets dropped like flies.
This year is 2021 dude. Your machine is old. And if you just bought that model, it can’t be that “expensive”. So your argument is weak in both ways.

I am a bit disappointed, that my 2014 iMac does not get new macOS versions, with the i7, 16GB of RAM and an internal SSD the machine is still perfectly usable.

But I saw that coming, when this iMac became vintage, so last year I bought the 2020 iMac, the 2014 iMac is in use as "secondary" desktop, as I did with the iMac before. Maybe I swap it with an Apple Silicon iMac when the security updates are stopped too or I install Linux.

Here's the thing, while you will be able to "run" Monterey on your 2015 MacBook Pro, there are some functionality that will be missing such as Universal Control. Honestly other than it running your applications and some security updates that will still be provided in Catalina and Big Sur there's not much benefit to running the Monterey on a much older machine such as your 2015 MBP.
