And FED CHALLENGE.

This thing had BETTER PASS QUICKLY!

I'll keep the mac world posted if anything happens (and I still have power...)

PS
I got a PM from someone asking if everything was gravy. I love y'all. *muah!*

they've been predicting 50mph winds and flooding here, 150 miles inland  postponing/cancelling events and everything. this storm is really looking bad--i hope any members here along the coast are all right...

I live in north-east Houston (Kingwood). Taping the windows and leaving for Austin tomorrow....

Edit: Was watching the news, and Neil Frank just mispronounced Katrina as "Kertina" hehe...

Wow she sure is big, whats the chance it will hit Houston?

Decent...the center of the projected path takes it about 75 miles to the southeast of Houston, but Houston is well within the cone where it could strike. Houston is slightly inland...it's about 40-50 miles from the coast if you count the barrier islands as defining the coast, although it is close to Galveston Bay. But if the storm comes at Houston from the south as it looks like it might, there's a good bit of land to protect it.

mb?

I'm sorry-- don't know what this means.. I read it as "megabyte"....
Millibars.
Air pressure. I think the lower the number the bigger the storm.

Record high ~1090 and low ~870

Hopefully it will go near a less populated area so not as much destruction is done.

I can't see our government having enough money to fund two of the most intense major hurricane disasters within weeks of each other.

Daveway how did you fare with Katrina - are you back home yet?

How many refineries will be shut down/damaged. :(
Gas prices of $4 anyone.

Lot's of new power generation facilities lately, but only one new refinery on the books after years of shutdowns.

Shhh.. quiet, you!!

anyone in houston--
This morning, gas at Richmond and the SW freeway was $2.61.

Come on, demand-pull inflation!!

...AND SO MANY STATIONS ARE OUT OF GAS, OMGWTFBBQ! I've never seen this happen before!
CRAAAPPPP!!!!

...my BCIS (computers... woo hoo, DELLS) teacher scared the LIVING CRAP outta me.. all "please! Evacuate! Why are you staying in Houston?!?!"

Ohh nooooesss.....

The way this thing's holding together and tracking, we could very well end up with Tropical Storm/Depression Rita on our doorsteps here in Iowa. As if Katrina wasn't enough...

Course if anyone thinks the Atlantic's getting it all, check out what's been happening out West of Mexico the last few days. Granted, not as powerful of storms, but at least three in close proximity tracking the same direction...man, bad year.
