Here is why the iPhone is 3.5" according to Giz

So according to Apple we should use our phones one-handed, and be thankful they protected us from ourselves and our ill guided desire to (gasp) use it with two hands and enjoy a bigger screen?

Got it. Thank you Apple. What was I thinking? If I want a bigger screen I'll send you even more money and get an iPad...

[/sarcasm off]

Well, you know, some of us actually do want to be able to use it one handed. Apparently Apple wants to market to us. I guess you'll have to go to a phone that wants to market to the people who don't care about having to use two hands to use their phone *shrug*.

Personally, I don't think the little extra you get with a slightly bigger screen makes up for what you lose with the bigger screen (doesn't fit as well in pockets/pocketbooks, not as easily used with one hand, worse battery life). I've had a PDA with a bigger screen. I even mocked the iphone for the smaller screen. When I got the iPhone much later on, I realized that I didn't really miss the difference in size screens but I loved how it fit better in my purse.

True, but the Sprint Galaxy S II (4.56") and hte Nexus Prime (rumored 4.67") has nearly the same size display as the Titan, but are also thinner and lighter than the titan. In fact, the Nexus Prime seems like it will be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S, despite a display that is 1.1" bigger. AMOLED makes a huge difference.

When the iPhone gets a major redesign and becomes significantly thinner, it will be because Apple is using some sort of OLED display. I guarantee it.

I'm not saying AMOLED displays don't have advantages, they clearly do, I was just pointing out that other technologies are available that are perfectly fine.

I think this is a good reason why Apple doesn't build a larger iPhone. They have always been about creating the pleasant experience for most people. But some people seem to be rejecting this, saying that its lame or just an excuse. So my question is why do you think they don't build a 4 inch+ screen?

That's the wrong question. Android users have an option to buy phones in all sizes. Many prefer to buy large phones. why do you think they don't buy 3.5" screens? It's not like they are forced to buy large phones.

The answer is really simple. While the ability to operate phone with one thumb clearly is a criteria in choosing a screen size so are a lot of other things. For example, some people watch TV/moview/youtube on the phones. In this case the tradeoff is: a little inconvenience (well at least some people say it is an inconvenience) in using two hands to start the movie vs 2 hours of watching a movie on a small screen.

Also, navigating web pages on a small screen is not fan even if one can do it with one hand. Besides what's the real problem in using both hands? Are people usin the second hand for doing something while browsing internet on iPhone? I wonder what this might be?

Ehh.. I like the 3.5" screen. It's good enough for me. But at the same time, if they can add a bigger screen with the same size dimensions of the iPhone, then I'd buy that instantaneously.
