Doesn't these sound a little better? Not like an Echo but maybe in-between an Echo and an Echo Dot.

I'll gladly pay 3-4x not to have to meddle with Amazon, don't trust them
They are on a par with the standard echo sound wise.

Lots of outrage here about the reviewers on YouTube. I don't really get it. We (mostly tech-savvy Apple users) are not the target market for these reviews. These are people who already have a whole bunch of followers who like them. Many of these reviewers are not talking to "us" (you wouldn't be seeing them unless MacRumors brought them to your attention).

For a cost of, what, $300 each (retail, HomePod mini x 3 - and that's if they don't request the product back afterwards), Apple can get their new product variation in front of tens or hundreds of thousands of potential buyers.

Honestly, just get Sonos. if Apple is not even going to make proper quality/sized speakers - what's the point?
I have a Sonos Arc (and Sub & pair of Play:1's), and I have a HomePod mini sitting a couple feet away from it. I converse with the HomePod mini (setting timers/reminders, setting lighting scenes), but if I want to listen to something I'll use the Sonos gear. Sometimes I'll say "Hey Siri, play (artist/album/song) on Sonos" and listen that way. I wish it didn't have to be this way. I wish Sonos and Apple could work out putting a first-class real Siri client into the Sonos speakers (if I understand correctly, there may be a path forward for that, but not clear that Sonos will take them up on it), or, that Apple would offer sound gear that was really competitive with Sonos (not just whole house audio, but proper home theater). Failing that, I use both.

(Yes, I know the Arc can do Alexa/Google Home. No, I'm not willing to have either of them listening to my living room 24/7. I feel more comfortable letting Apple do that - they don't have a profit motive tied up in collecting detailed demographic data on me the way that Amazon and Google do. Furthermore, Apple leans heavily on privacy for their reputation - if they were caught doing intentional creepy things with the audio, they'd lose a whole bunch of reputation and actual money.)

Of all the companies that get batted around for "Apple should buy _X_", Sonos is practically the only one I'd be happy to see them buy (they'd have to agree to keep supporting all the non-Apple clients and streaming services). Not holding my breath for that.

can I gets a can of Krylon spray paint and paint my own damned color?

Someone at Apple came to from a 50-year acid trip and wondered why everything was in black and white. This year’s gaudiness will go down in infamy.

I cant belive Apple dedicated precious minutes in its keynote to talk about these new colors and yet no a single word about their plans (if any) for future gaming on the Mac which is a huge business and can attract millions of people in the ecosystem. This is beyond me!

This year's gaudiness? They have a long history of making things in colors, going back to the first iMacs. They've just hit a point where their stock models for some things (like the new iMacs) got down to few enough choices that it became reasonable to offer colors again (if you have 2 base models, times 5 colors, that's 10 SKUs to move through the system - if you have 6 base models, it'd be 30 SKUs).

Little money for Apple in the gaming world. I would like it too but I get why they're not interested. Hardcore gamers will always have an irrational hate for Apple.

I won't buy a mini speaker without battery. If it has to be plugged in to work it almost worthless IMO.
Just imagine how versatile this would be if you could unplug and take it to the patio ... and play your favorite Spotify song ... Thats what I do with my Marshall Emberton ... and I don't need to talk with it, Siri most of the time doesn't understand anyway. Also, why Siri can't understand basic requests without internet connection. My kids have a game from 2013 that can do this without any internet. Strange ... Siri should learn the most common requested tasks and perform them without going to the internet. "Siri wake me up at 6 am" ... "your alarm set, good night"!!
