I like design and I like physical objects like books. I bought it to add to my collection of design books. Arrived today and it was interestingly packaged with a box in a box in a box. Kind of cool, funky, Apple packaging. The book itself and printing are high quality. Fabric cover, glossy/heavy pages, and silver on the page edges. Lots of content in the book and it's actually been fun to flip through, so far.

Is it worth $300 (I got the HUGE one. YES IT IS HUGE!) ? Considering what most high end printing costs these days, I'd say so. This isn't really just for Apple "fans", but for people that like design. Many people like me really enjoy this type of publication for what it is.

The only thing that bugs me...and the same thing that bugs me about all Apple products these days:

Designed in California. MADE IN CHINA (!)

Come on, Apple...I'm not surprised, but still...

They are arrogant with the pricing , though I can see some fans happy to pay whatever amount apple set.

Other high end product companies such as Rolex give these type of products alway for free.
In my opinion this should have gone out to long terms fans as a thank you for supporting apple over the generations....Tim is too worried about cashing in though.

I've been around long enough to observe that the Beginning of the End of most companies is heralded when execs become disconnected from their customer base and start drinking the Kool-Aid of their own hubris.

Sad to say, "Designed by Apple in California" is pretty much an artifact of this process. As are the new MacBook Pros, and to a larger extent, the new Apple spaceship campus and the yacht Jobs never got to enjoy.

Empires rise, empires fall, time marches on.

I'd be willing to bet that Jony wanted to release one of these books right after the release of the iMac in 1998. And he's probably wanted to release one every year since. Seems like Tim finally got tired of listening to the same pitch every year. ;)

I'm gonna order one of these. It's meant to be a piece of art. Something that you put on your coffee table. I can see why people think it is expensive and it is but I have been a fan of Apple products for over 15 years and think it would look good on my own coffee table when I hopefully move out next year.

iJustine has done a video on it if anyone is interested.

I think it's kind of cool. It's like a final nod to Steve Jobs. By putting all of the products he hand crafted into one book, including the final ones that he affected, even after his death, it packages up his legacy in one simple book.

I'd like to own one of these but I'm not sure if I'll be willing to shell out that kind of money.

Perhaps I'll find one of these on Amazon at half price in a few years? ;)
try double. i suspect it will be limited run.

Designed in California, printed in a Chinese child labour sweat shop...

Defended by Apple apologists worldwide.
and misunderstood by fandroids near you.

I've seen a lot of flack for the price of this book, but really it's on par with low-print-run, high quality art books designed for institutional use. Since this is chiefly a design/art book, I think the price is fine. It's not meant to be a mass-market book. There are other similar books out there if you're interested in that.

It's not so much the price, but the fact that there's two sizes that makes Apple seem like a sad parody of its former self.

ignorant nonsense. as has been noted elsewhere, high end photography/art/fashion books often go for this price range and well above.

not everyone is in school or lives at home w/ the parents.

But none of this "art" is new! This is recycled product marketing images that Apple has taken over the past 20 years and is now printing out.

The best example I can think of is if Nintendo priced its NES Classic for $300.

The photos in the book by Apple are taken by Andrew Zuckerman, a very renowned filmmaker and photographer. And from what I can gather, the style of photography in the book may look simple and easy to do, but it is not quite easy at all. And it is certainly not just "recycled product marketing images" or some 5-minute copy and paste job as some might allude to.

While the $200 and $300 price tag may be a bit on the high side, it's not really that much higher than other photo books of similar sizes and using similar paper quality and binding.

not. DOOM sayers like yourself have been saying this for, well, 40 years. still not happening.

i love Apple products. my macs today are a million times more useful than the first apple machines i worked on. they suit my needs perfectly, so I'm not getting how you feel theyre out of touch. they arent cheap, is that what you mean?

Don't pretend people wouldn't have paid that for the NES Classic. Not nearly as many, obviously, but I'm frankly kinda amazed that Nintendo asked for as little as they did.

that doesnt make any sense. you're looking at them wrong -- think of the smaller size as a budget-conscious version, which makes it more tolerable to those not used to buying high-end books.
