I'm personally a huge sucker for art books. I don't know if I'll be buying this one in particular, but the art book that I got with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim makes me drool every time I open it. There's just something about holding a high DPI, color book in your hands that is so satisfying after looking at fake, digital images on screens most of the time.

try double. i suspect it will be limited run.

and misunderstood by fandroids near you.

Please. You need to get real and wake up. The blind a$$ kissery is disgusting.

That self-congratulatory book took them 8 years to make and should have been designed and MADE in the USA. Not China.

I don't agree with the new President-elect we have coming up, but expect him to kick Tim Cook's a$$ soon.

I have the game and WANT that book. I think it's out of print though, but I'm a fan of art books. Just not the extravagantly priced ones when it should be economically accessible for all to see and have.

this is a normal price for similiar books. good architecture and fashion books generally exceed this cost.

here's an example:

You link an exception. A quick review of the same site shows a much lower average price even for the same category. But as other posts in here clearly show, it's in the eye of the beholder. Even John Gruber's Daring Fireball quotes are particular. But hey, the most important thing for some in here (not referred to you) it's to show off how smarter they are.

My first thought upon seeing this book, was remembering how Steve Jobs threw out the Apple Computer museum when he returned to Apple HQ. He said that looking backward was not what he wanted people to do.

---

That said, I've paid a lot for similar books about Dieter Rams, but they at least had some info as well.

Personally, I'd love to see an official inside Apple history of who really developed certain devices, and why some design decisions were made.

For instance, who was the developer who first showed flick scrolling to Jobs? Who really decided that the iPhone battery case should look the way it does? And so forth.

I've seen a lot of flack for the price of this book, but really it's on par with low-print-run, high quality art books designed for institutional use. Since this is chiefly a design/art book, I think the price is fine. It's not meant to be a mass-market book. There are other similar books out there if you're interested in that.
Yep, this sort of books are $$$.Just go to Taschen.com, $300 would be cheap, some of their books go to the thousand$.

They developed their own inks and commissioned custom paper designs for the book to more carefully represent the real-world colours of the products and in particular show 'whites' (white product on white page) more accurately. This book isn't for everyone, but I guarantee those here who are not buying it are the ones complaining. Such is adolescence.

Really? If that is the case then it's really cool of them. Can you show me a link to this?

I'm temped to buy it already, but if that's the case I'll surely get one.

As a book in the category you mentioned you're right however they are going to have them in regular quantity and in many stores. It's a confusing product.

A handful of Apple stores around the world is not "many stores." Yes, you can buy online, but the same is true of the art books I mentioned.

Some people complain that Apple did this.

Well... which other tech company could actually do this?

At least you laugh about the price tag, and not because it's empty

Apple made a book because they can fill the pages. They actually have something of value to put in it.

So you're ok with the likes of Kim Kardashian? This is vanity, nothing more. If the profits were going to charity then I'd of been behind this 100%, but it's just a greedy move on the ones that can't get enough of the kool-aid.

"Printed and bound by Artron Art Group, China" Of course it was.

If Apple can't make a book called "Designed by Apple in California" in California that's a pretty sad indictment of the company. Heck, I'd even be cool if they did it in one of the other states where people actually need the work.

It's the inherent fake-ness and disingenuous-ness of marketing a Chinese product as American.

By going to China, it sends the message that Apple is a vacuous, empty corporation that's only interested in profits. For this price I'd have expected a made in America product. I don't care if my $20 iPhone case is made in China but I wouldn't pay $200-$300 for a made-in-China book.

The only thing that bugs me...and the same thing that bugs me about all Apple products these days:

Designed in California. MADE IN CHINA (!)

Come on, Apple...I'm not surprised, but still...
That's the world we live in. Globalization, cheaper to manufacture overseas. I know a lot of people including me want these jobs back here but it won't happen. I would think this book would cost at least double if it was made in USA.

ignorant nonsense. as has been noted elsewhere, high end photography/art/fashion books often go for this price range and well above.

not everyone is in school or lives at home w/ the parents.

well I find that insulting. Please reflect on the nonsense you post. This adds nothing to the thread, being a personal attack.

Well, academic text books can easily exceed that price, and they're printed on what seems to be fairy silk.

It pays for the research, which is very expensive. These are just product marketing shots, which they had anyway.

I should stay out, but no news on this front. 70 % of post history starting with snarky attitude, to say the least.
