Ok Now I get why Apple hasn't released a new Mac Pro in three years. Because they were too busy making................(wait for it).............(wait for it).............a book. (Cue The Price is Right tuba sound effect)

The only way I can see this being worth that much, is if they decided to include photos of future products that have not yet been launched. That could merit the steep price tag. Unless the pages are infused with diamond grains.
Pls do some study. Many many books in art world cost similar.
A stupid accounting textbook costs me $120 and I have to buy it. I could imagine that this kind of book worth $2-300 for some library or some organization or private collectors.
Things worth different for different person.
Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion.

Some people complain that Apple did this.

Well... which other tech company could actually do this?

At least you laugh about the price tag, and not because it's empty

Apple made a book because they can.

They actually have something of value to put in it.

Hewlett Packard before 1999 could have done it (absolutely gorgeous T&M equipment from '49-late 80s), IBM, Braun, B&O, of the top of my head...

So are law and medicine and some engineering books (cough, Pozar, Microwave Engineering, cough) cost that amount as well - nothing to do with the printing costs, but rather how much the market will bear... Moreover, the reach of most art books is miniscule. This has huge reach, but it's clear that TC is seeing Apple more and more as a fashion brand (watches, straps, emoticons, portless thin Macbooks, the list goes on) and a method to milk the public. This books is the latest in "exclusiveness" and *against* the democratisation of good design that Wozniak and Jobs, each in their own way, stood for.

Jobs priced things to make sure that Apple remains a financially healthy company and to not "build down to a price". Wozniak would have given things away for free - as long as it was good for the people (he would have ruined the company, but hey at least he's not selfish). TC - profit uber alles.

They are arrogant with the pricing , though I can see some fans happy to pay whatever amount apple set.

Other high end product companies such as Rolex give these type of products alway for free.
In my opinion this should have gone out to long terms fans as a thank you for supporting apple over the generations....Tim is too worried about cashing in though.

Arrogant. Oh..then a stupid academic textbooks I bought are arrogant too. Those books are not even 1/10 as beautiful as this book.

All art or architectural books at around this price range

Did u mention "Rolex"? When did they give this kind of books for free?

rather than post a less than useful video mocking the price, why not talk about other high end books in this category, as Gruber did? turns out it's not out of line. just not cheap.

Suggest you have a look at those books....you will realise they offer Image and documentary that has never surfaced before.

Apples Books in comparison looks like marketing book in my opinion. Its a collection of Images I have seen before.

Order one .

But right now, no, they can't.
They are companies that rose... and fell. HP imploded after the founders retired and even the Test and Measurement section (now with the imaginative name "Keysight") is one step away from being a made in China box shifter...

Apple is still doing fine, but I do fear that they have reached their pinnacle

The book looks very well made and stunning. I purchassed recently a book called Historic Heston, by Heston Bulmenthal which is the same size as the larger version, has similar number of pages and some stunning photography and art throughout. Original price £100 and I got it on Amazon for £50. The price is indeed high. In fact the price of the book is indeed higher than even some of the real life products the pictures of which it contains. Ironic. It seems like Jobs' pet project was the Apple TV whereas Ive's pet project is this book. Atv was/is unable to play all the files and the Book does not contain pictures of the iconic first Apple products. So, both Jobs and Ive have in common the fact that they managed to come up with an overpriced "half cooked" product. What is also ironic and "two faced" from Apple is that they come out with a physical book when they have been trying all these years to kill physical books. What next? Apple going to come out with a CD or vinyl?:D

What surprise me the most though is the fact that an Apple product is being bashed here. This is the holy place where all avid Apple fans hang out. Where all "the people that queue for days to get an Apple product which can be delivered to them a few days later", hang out. All the people that built Apple's hype hang out. Guess what, you are paying for that hype. Well, either that or this place has been secretly infiltrated by a lot of Sammsung fans. :D:D:D:D:D:p

Looking back on previous glories pretty much means you have given up on anything as good happening in the future. I remember when Apple had vision and took risks. Now they make books and look to the past. Very sad.

Apple this week unveiled its latest product, a hardbound photo book that showcases 20 years of Apple products, highlighting every Mac, iPhone, iPod, and iPad released between 1998 and 2015.

Because it's positioned as an art piece, Apple's "Designed by Apple in California" book costs a jaw dropping $200 to $300 depending on size, so we thought we'd take a look inside to see just what you're getting for that price tag.

Aside from a dedication page dedicating the book to former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, a foreword by Apple design chief Jony Ive, and an insert with product descriptions, the book is text-free, filled with large, high-quality images of Apple products. There are 450 images in total, with multiple photographs of each item to highlight its design process. It starts with the 1998 iMac, one of the first products Ive designed at Apple, and ends with the 2015 Apple Pencil.

According to Apple, it took eight years to design the linen-bound hardcover book, which features specially milled, custom-dyed paper with "gilded matte silver edges," and low-ghost ink. As can be seen in the video, the book is of the highest quality with gorgeous photographs, but its price limits its appeal to the general public.

"Designed by Apple in California" can only be purchased from the online Apple Store and at select Apple retail locations around the world. It's priced at $199 for a 10.2x12.8 inch version, and $299 for a 13x16.3 inch version.

Sorry I have a Agilent oscilloscope and they are awesome and while Rigol and others are making good low end oscilloscopes, on the mid end and high end, Keysight is beating Tektronix and Yokugawa, and everyone else.
