...and if you do want that all-in-one convenience? Well, we're back to all those 27" iMac users who've just been thrown under a bus.
Looks like another 50w (11v @ 4.5), 335W
Well, this is the internet, where literally everybody and their dog uses hyperbole 110% of the time.Do I feel like I’ve been “thrown under a bus”? Nope. Am I disappointed? Yep. Am I going to whine about it?
I've just checked: Mac Mini with those specs and a Studio Display together are $2,898.00 - so pretty close to 2.5K actually. And next time you want a new computer this price is cut down to less than half as you can keep the display.I still believe this will come back to haunt Apple really, really badly. People that want the iMac for this entire All-In-One-craze they themselves started (and which I can not understand, but well, you do you) will rather keep their old iMac 2018 rather than upgrading to the Studio + Display.
The machine most people would have wanted and would have gladly paid 2.5K for was a 27 inch iMac with M1 Pro, 16 gigs of ram and a Terabyte of Storage. I really wonder what their market analysts are smoking to conclude abandoning the iMac is the right move.

You're disappointed - that's the point. People "whining" here are discussing their disappointment. Nobody here is proposing to sue Apple and force them to make the machine that they feel entitled to.
Also, you're "lucky" in that you have a 2009, 1440p iMac which can be used as an external display with a Mini and hasn't spoiled you with 5k.
Considering what the inside of the Studio Display looks like in terms of cooling and design, it does seem to have been designed to eventually handle an M2 Pro so we may yet see the return of the iMac 5K and $2500 would probably cover an M2 Pro, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD.
(The days of an $1800-2000 iMac 5K are dead - that market is now covered by the 24" iMac).
Sure - that's a great way of using an iMac as a secondary display, or for something like a headless server where you only occasionally need to use the desktop. I wouldn't choose it as a viable solution for a primary display - and if you're getting lag on a 1440p display, it's going to be a lot worse on a 5k display shifting 4x as much data...By the way, you can connect your 5K iMac to another Mac via a Thunderbolt port and just use screen sharing.
...is only an issue if someone wants to try and compel Apple to produce the products they think they deserve. The only "entitlement" being exercised here is the entitlement to criticise their products.A note on entitlement...
Apple still sells an Intel Mac Mini. Perhaps it’s the “next 2012 MacBook Pro” that hangs around for 5 years without updates, but perhaps it suggests a higher-end Mac Mini is coming.I've just checked: Mac Mini with those specs and a Studio Display together are $2,898.00 - so pretty close to 2.5K actually. Oh - I absolutely agree to this logic. Actually I am very happy that apple is offering displays separately. But I just cannot imagine the customer base is. I alone know 6 people that absolutely swear by using iMacs, all of which are furious that they now will have to have an extra box on the table, with those pesky wires and, well, stuff.I've just checked: Mac Mini with those specs and a Studio Display together are $2,898.00 - so pretty close to 2.5K actually. Keep hoping, but I'm afraid that's over.Considering what the inside of the Studio Display looks like in terms of cooling and design, it does seem to have been designed to eventually handle an M2 Pro so we may yet see the return of the iMac 5K and $2500 would probably cover an M2 Pro, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD.

Why not let it run iOS?
