I'm very happy with the trackpad, it's smooth and i got use to it pretty fast. What Bothers me is why they don't have esc key. I use it often for remote connections using my ipad.

This is more helpful than the Apple video. Round cursor is similar to the Amazon Fire TVs. And, nice to see long touch being utilized over 3D touch like we had predicted it would happen.

this is awesome. just would like to find a quality built keyboard and trackpad for around $100
Not Apples $350 price tag for the iPad Pro keyboard and pad.

I’ve been trying it out on the original iPad Pro with Cloud9 and it makes working so much better.
But I still have trouble scrolling through the code with ease because it’s an unoptimized web app.
I will need to have a look at code-server (VSCode).

Nope. I have both and nothing works unfortunately :(((

The trackpad is particularly useless.
You will be able to pair but you will not get the settings for two fingers tap or for scrolling. This makes it impossible to use and you need to do touch screen to make basic operations.

I don't get the logic behind (technically)... Financially it may make sense...

The article is incorrect. Only Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 function with scrolling and gestures.
No scrolling? Aw man, come on Apple! Guess I'll get a 14" MBP or a new Air.

With the update you can also remap keys under general in settings. I already changed one over to Esc.

I just ordered a Magic Trackpad 2 for my 2018 iPad Pro last night. And with the 1Keyboard app on my iMac, I only need one Magic Keyboard to share between the two. This is so awesome!

While I understand keyboard support, having written countless papers on my iPad with a $20 keyboard from Amazon, this addition seems a little unnecessary. Serious question, can someone give me a use case where this is different than touching the screen?

Remote desktop. Using RDP or VNC applications on an iPad using touch is awkward and difficult. Being able to use a trackpad or mouse will be a game-changer for me, as it will mean being to take the iPad instead of the MacBook on short trips when I need simple work connectivity.

I just downloaded the 13.4 GM and plugged in a HooToo USB-C hub and then plugged in a truly ancient Apple Mighty mouse and the left & right buttons work as expected and the tiny little “scroll ball” works great for scrolling without any settings changes required. I’m impressed. This could really be a game changer for iPad users; definitely feels more like a MacBook now. I think I‘ll definitely be getting the new Magic Keyboard. I also use a Brydge pro (NOT the forthcoming plus model with a trackpad) with backlit keyboard so that helps as well.

Please tell me that developers can change the cursor shape. I want a more precise cursor than the round one with Affinity apps. A man can dream.

I might buy the magic keyboard, if it is stable on my lap. Usually Tablets with Keyboards don't work well like that.

The only issues I’ve had with the iPad was how frustrating text editing was. So this should solve that issue for me. Other than the software side such as with autocorrect and such.

I find it extremely fascinating how people differ from each other. I’ve been creating lessons for years on an iPad. Text editing has never been frustrating to me. I guess its all according to what we’ve been used to.

If I’m not mistaken the cursor changes when it scrolls over different content. However, I highly doubt Apple gives other apps the ability to change its shape. Apple isn‘t know for giving developers that much access. Apples wants their products to work the way they feel gives the desired result.

Different input options work better for different tasks. For things like spreadsheet, coding, text selection, etc. touch screen is terrible functionally and ergonomically. Trackpad is an improvement but personally I prefer the Trackpoint nub on Thinkpads since I type ~120 wps so moving my hands away from keyboard slows me down and disable the trackpad since even Macbooks don't have perfect palm rejection and always randomly move the cursor. Important thing is having options to cater to different tasks and preferences.

So instead of just doing it the same way as in macOS (and every other OS) it's something different. And not a word about Word... Or any other more useful app.

Is scrolling support with the magic trackpad 1 or magic mouse 1?
Have this question too. Why is it said MM2 and MT2 are supported? Especially since any non-Apple BT mouse and trackpad are supported as well

Since the Magic keyboard is not out until May, I wonder if knockoffs could land on Amazon by then?

This is version one (or two if you count the accessibility mouse support). I’m sure that changing cursors for productivity apps is on the roadmap.

Screen touch input on an iPad or iPhone when you’re holding it with your other hand, makes complete sense. But when your input is primarily via keyboard, keeping your hands on the same plane is far more efficient than having to raise one hand and arm up to the screen to do something that could be more easily done simply by sliding over to a trackpad, or in the case of the keyboards with integrated trackpads move slightly down, is by far the better, more ergonomic, faster input method.
